The following inclement weather policies will be in effect dependent upon the Edmonds School District closure/delay statuses On bad weather days, please check our Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks Facebook page, the City of Mountlake Terrace Government page, and CityofMLT on Twitter for updates
IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED
If the Edmonds School District has cancelled school due to inclement weather, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs Programs such as all Kids Krew sites, Junior Kids Krew, Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons, Water Fitness, Land Fitness and Dance Classes with a start time prior to 3:00 p m will be cancelled Weather conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon for later programs
IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE DELAYED
If the Edmonds School District has a two-hour late start, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs Junior Kids Krew and all Kids Krew sites will also start two hours late, opening at 8:30 a m instead of 6:30 a m In this situation, Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness will be cancelled For Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes on delayed start days, we will cancel the classes held during the delay All classes held after the delay will begin at their regularly scheduled time
For information on Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes with a start time after 3:00 p m on days when the Edmonds School District cancels classes, please call the Recreation Pavilion at (425) 776-9173 after 2:30 p m to find out whether these classes will be held We will try our best to keep social media updated as well
In all cases, conditions will be reassessed Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes that are missed due to weather or closure of the Pavilion will not be made up Make up days for Junior Kids Krew and Kids Krew will be the same as the Edmonds School District make-up days If you have any questions regarding this policy, please feel free to call us at (425) 776-9173

Swim Instruction– Youth, Teen & Adult
Our warm water, multi-depth pool is great for learning Children will progress with confidence and learn to love the water Our enthusiastic and well-trained instructors create a positive and fun experience Classes are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings, Saturdays and Sundays Schedules are available at the Pavilion office with specific class times the week prior to each session Our lesson progression is skill based and emphasizes proper technique and safety If you are unsure of where your child might fit best, please see one of our aquatic supervisors

Safety Classes
American Red Cross Lifeguarding
Blended Learning format will be used: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years * Prerequisites must be completed before first day of class, call 425 776 9173 ext 1120 or 1106 to set up an appointment

Junior Lifeguards
Jr Leaders will gain a wide variety of knowledge and experience that will include first aid skills, CPR, water rescue techniques, team work, responsibility and the importance of physical fitness Each day campers will practice lifeguarding skills, team building and will work with our swim lesson program gaining hands on experience teaching and gain entry in the Recreation Swim All Participants must be able to swim 100 yards of crawl stroke and tread water for 60 seconds Jr Leaders will have the opportunity to become CPR certified if they pass the American Red Cross’ certification test

Aquatic Boot Camp
Aquatic Boot camp is an all-out class that focuses on core, muscle strength, muscle toning and cardio fitness It is strongly encouraged that participants have water shoes and a water bottle for class
Deep Water Fitness
A dynamic, total-body workout with no impact Students use equipment for support and resistance Must be comfortable in the deep water, but no swim skills are required
L.I.F.T. Water Class
Low Intensity Fitness Training is a program for people who are just starting a fitness program, anyone with joint and mobility issues, or anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace from our other classes Enjoy the support and warmth of the water as you exercise Reduced stress on joints
Shallow Water Fitness
A fast-paced fitness class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, tone muscles, and increase flexibility No swim skills required
Water Walk
This class meets in shallow water that includes a variety of activities to target range of motion, strength, endurance, and balance No swim skills are required

Pool Rentals are great for Birthdays, Family Gathering, or Group Parties and Socials! Our warm water, indoor swimming pool is available for year-round fun! All rentals include tubes, mats, basketball hoop, water walk, noodles, water toys and lifejackets
Pool parties are fun for all ages and swimming abilities We have plenty of options! Rent half the pool or the full pool Add-on our Lazy River, which winds you around with a light current for additional fun! An adult must accompany children under 4 years old in the water for all rentals All pool rentals will start with a swimming skills check to ensure children can swim in water over their head These rentals must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance, the number of participants may be limited, check at the time of booking *Availability of rentals will depend on current staff levels

Early Childhood Programs
Our preschool/early childhood programs are rich in play experiences that provide opportunities for children to learn basic skills and concepts needed for later academic success Children are encouraged to explore using all their senses through developmentally appropriate individual and group activities in a safe, nurturing and fun environment Our curriculum is based on monthly themes that facilitate and encourage children’s social and emotional growth, and cognitive development through successful accomplishments Activities include creative expression through art, movement, dramatic play, language opportunities, handson math and science experiences, arts and crafts, and enhancement opportunities such as community field trips, dance and/or swimming We go swimming in our life guarded pool These programs maintain a staff to child ratio of 1:10 and maximum group size of 20 children All three early childhood programs take place at our Pavilion recreation center
These children most often have the ability to follow simple directions and cooperate with others They are learning and growing their social skills and it is our job to help them along These children generally display an eagerness and curiosity in learning and wanting to play with others They should have independent bathroom skills (definition below in policies) before their first day with us They should also have the ability to separate from their parents/guardians at morning drop-off time Children eligible for Kindergarten in fall 2023 cannot be accepted into these programs

Kids Krew
Kids Krew is a relaxed and trusting school age child care program Your child can pursue interests, have fun and develop friendships They receive kind and respectful support from our staff each day Our staff strives to meet the individual needs of youth by offering them a variety of developmentally appropriate activities These different activities include active & thought provoking games, arts & crafts, dramatic play, science projects and a large variety of toys We take the children swimming in our life-guarded pool on days when school is closed We can also offer a quiet space for children needing to work on their homework The daily schedule is structured yet remains flexible allowing the children the freedom to choose their activities We maintain a staff to child ratio of 1:15

Jazz
Warm up, body isolations, progressions across the floor, and fun rhythmic combinations all danced to a variety of music Fun, high energy, age appropriate curriculum and choreography is prepared for each level
Lyrical
A popular free flowing dance form that uses elements of ballet, contemporary and Jazz to express the words to the music It’s often seen in music videos and TV dance competitions Jazz I and Ballet I are excellent preparation levels for dancers who aren’t 8 by Sept 1st 2023

To enroll in this class Basic class must have been completed This class builds on the foundation started in basic obedience and prepares participants for the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen test which will be given on the last night of class

Northeast of the Recreation Pavilion, the Off-Leash Dog Park is about three-quarters of an acre in size and positioned in the woods of Terrace Creek Park Facility is open from dawn to dusk, seven days per week

Create unique monoprints without a press using a gel printing plate In this class we use an 8”x 10” gel plate with acrylic paint to make unique layered prints Gel prints are perfect for collage, cards or the foundation for mixed media work and unlike many traditional printmaking techniques it can be done almost anywhere

Tree Lighting Ceremony
Friday, December 1 at 6:30pm
The 40th Annual Mountlake Terrace Tree Lighting Ceremony features music, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. Volunteers serve cocoa and cookies while children sing carols. Our 20’ tree will light up after an exciting countdown. The city’s police, public works and recreation & parks departments as well as South County Fire put on this festive event. Dress appropriately for the weather for this outdoor event.
