Recreation Pavilion Inclement Weather Policy The following inclement weather policies will be in effect dependent upon the Edmonds School District closure/delay statuses. On bad weather days, please check our Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks Facebook page, the City of Mountlake Terrace Government page, and CityofMLT on Twitter for updates.

IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

If the Edmonds School District has cancelled school due to inclement weather, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs. Programs such as all Kids Krew sites, Junior Kids Krew, Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons, Water Fitness, Land Fitness and Dance Classes with a start time prior to 3:00 p.m. will be cancelled. Weather conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon for later programs.

IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE DELAYED

If the Edmonds School District has a two-hour late start, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs. Junior Kids Krew and all Kids Krew sites will also start two hours late, opening at 8:30 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m.

In this situation, Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness will be cancelled. For Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes on delayed start days, we will cancel the classes held during the delay. All classes held after the delay will begin at their regularly scheduled time.

For information on Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes with a start time after 3:00 p.m. on days when the Edmonds School District cancels classes, please call the Recreation Pavilion at (425) 776-9173 after 2:30 p.m. to find out whether these classes will be held. We will try our best to keep social media updated as well.

In all cases, conditions will be reassessed. Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes that are missed due to weather or closure of the Pavilion will not be made up. Make up days for Junior Kids Krew and Kids Krew will be the same as the Edmonds School District make-up days. SWIM INSTRUCTION

Swim Instruction Our warm water, multi-depth pool is great for learning. Children will progress with confidence and learn to love the water.

Our enthusiastic and well-trained instructors create a positive and fun experience. Classes are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturdays. Schedules are available at the Pavilion office with specific class times the week prior to each session.

Our lesson progression is skill based and emphasizes proper technique and safety. If you are unsure of where your child might fit best, please see one of our aquatic supervisors.

Safety Classes American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning format will be used: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. * Pre-requisites must be completed before first day of class, call 425.776.9173 ext.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review Lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while also extending your certification for two years. This course will be a combination of classroom time and water skills practice. Participants must bring proof of current certification to the first class.

Junior Lifeguards Jr. Leaders will gain a wide variety of knowledge and experience that will include first aid skills, CPR, water rescue techniques, team work, responsibility and the importance of physical fitness. Each day campers will practice lifeguarding skills, team building and will work with our swim lesson program gaining hands on experience teaching and gain entry in the Recreation Swim. All Participants must be able to swim 100 yards of crawl stroke and tread water for 60 seconds. Jr. Leaders will have the opportunity to become CPR certified if they pass the American Red Cross’ certification test.

American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR/ AED/ First Aid Blended Learning: Through a combination of self-paced online learning and instructor-led classroom skill sessions, participants will have the opportunity to practice, participate, and demonstrate the same skills and knowledge as classroom based courses. The online portion, which features simulation learning must be completed prior to attending the classroom skill session. Participants will be given or emailed instructions on how to access the online portion of the course.

Swim Descriptions, Availability & Fees Our full pool schedule is available online at www.mltrec.com it will reflect the most current information. The regular fall schedule will begin on September 6 and will run through December 17. Check our website for modified schedules during Thanksgiving-November 23-27 and Winter break-December 19-31, 2022. Children under Four Years old MUST be accompanied IN THE WATER by a responsible adult and must stay within arms reach for all swims. Safety will not be compromised.

Arthritis Aquatics Program

L.I.F.T. Water Class

The warm water helps relieve pain and stiffness as well as increase joint flexibility.

Low Intensity Fitness Training is a program for people who are just starting a fitness program, persons 60 years and over, anyone with joint and mobility issues, or anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace from our other classes.

Enjoy the support and warmth of the water as you exercise.

Aquatic Boot Camp Aquatic Boot camp is an all-out class that focuses on core, muscle strength, muscle toning and cardio fitness. It is strongly encouraged that participants have water shoes and a water bottle for class.

Aqua Zumba® Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio conditioning, body toning and exhilarating!

Deep Water Fitness A dynamic, total-body workout with no impact. Students use equipment for support and resistance. Must be comfortable in the deep water, but no swim skills are required.

Shallow Water Fitness A fast-paced, fitness class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, tone muscles, and increase flexibility.

No swim skills required.

Water Walk This class meets in shallow water that includes a variety of activities to target range of motion, strength, endurance, and balance. No swim skills are required.

Pool Rentals Pool Rentals are great for Birthdays, Family Gathering, or Group Parties and Socials! Our warm water, indoor swimming pool is available for year-round fun! All rentals include tubes, mats, basketball hoop, water walk, noodles, water toys and lifejackets.

Pool parties are fun for all ages and swimming abilities. We have plenty of options! Rent half the pool or the full pool. Add-on our Lazy River, which winds you around with a light current for additional fun! An adult must accompany children under 4 years old in the water for all rentals. Availability of pool rentals will depend on certified staffing levels.

Specialty Pool & Room Rentals AFTER HOURS: The Pavilion pool and rooms are available to rent after the facility closes for the night during the week or on the weekend. We can accommodate specialty water activities, merit badges, water safety skills practice for all types of groups. Currently, we are not able to offer pool and room rentals due to the lack of enough certified lifeguards.

Our Indoor Playground creates an awesome birthday party for busy children! Kids enjoy the indoor playground equipment and toys including slides, ball pit, playhouses, tunnels, climbing toys and much more! We provide tables and chairs with a basic set-up for 15 children. A rental package includes preschool sized tables and chairs, tablecloth and playtime in the indoor playground.

PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN READINESS, JUNIOR KIDS KREW

Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness Children are encouraged to explore using all their senses through developmentally appropriate individual and group activities in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. Activities include creative expression through art, movement, dramatic play and language opportunities, hands-on math and science experiences, craft projects, community field trips, and enhancement opportunities such as a weekly recreational swim.

Classes begin September 7, 2022 (we are closed on Labor Day) and run through the week of June 19th. No classes held on non-school days in the Edmonds School District. Registration requires a $35 non-refundable registration fee. All participants must be able to dress themselves and be fully potty trained. We reserve the right to place children in the appropriate program based on age and/or developmental level. If you need extended care, the Junior Kids Krew Program is the one to choose.

Junior Kids Krew A year round childcare program for children ages 3-5 years offering a unique combination of recreational and enrichment experiences in a relaxed and caring environment.

Program includes preschool and kindergarten readiness activities such as creative expression CHILDCARE through art movement dramatic play and OPTION language opportunities, hands-on math and science experiences, craft projects, and enhancement opportunities that include dance and swimming. Program has been certified by WA Department of Children, Youth and Families, the WA State Early Achievers Program and accepts DSHS subsidies for qualified applicants.

All participants must be at least 3 years old, be able to dress themselves and be fully potty trained. Care is available from 6:30am to 6:30pm with a maximum of 10 hours per day. A registration fee of $35 for individuals or $55 for families is required. We do not accept children eligible for Kindergarten in the Fall of 2022. Program begins Wednesday, September 7th. KIDS KREW, SCHOOL BREAK CAMPS, SEWING CLASSES

Kids Krew A before and after school program for students in kindergarten through 6th grade that offers a caring and relaxed environment. Kids Krew focuses on the development of character, while supporting the social and academic success of each participant. Children can pursue interests and develop friendships with the support of caring and respectful staff. Programs located at Mountlake Terrace Pavilion, Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Madrona K-8 School have all been certified by WA Department of Children, Youth and Families. Elementary schools served include, Madrona, Mountlake Terrace, and Terrace Park. Kids Krew is offered on a monthly basis and follows the Edmonds School District calendar. Care on early release and nonschool days can be provided for an additional fee. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $35 for individuals, $55 for families. Our excellent instructors provide a structured approach to dance, with emphasis on technique, creativity, and building self-esteem. Our yearly Dance Academy program is based on a full school years curriculum and begins with children who are 3.5 years of age as of Sept 1st 2022. Creative Dance

Danseurs & Ballerinas build strength, flexibility and grace in a non-competitive, encouraging environment. These traditional classes focus on ballet vocabulary, correct alignment, and finding personal expression within the form.

Northeast of the Recreation Pavilion, the Off-Leash Dog Park is about three-quarters of an acre in size and positioned in the woods of Terrace Creek Park. Facility is open from dawn to dusk, seven days per week.

This class builds on the foundation started in basic obedience and prepares participants for the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen test which will be given on the last night of class.

The 40th Annual Mountlake Terrace Tree Lighting Ceremony features music, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.

Volunteers serve cocoa and cookies while children sing carols.

Our new 20’ tree will light up after an exciting countdown. The city’s police, public works and recreation & parks departments as well as South County Fire put on this festive event. Dress appropriately for the weather for this outdoor event.

Enjoy paintings, prints, calligraphy, drawings, miniatures, photography, 3-dimensional and artisan’s works by top local and regional artists. This is one of the best art shows in the region and attracts over 200 guests each year. The Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission and the Friends of the Arts sponsor the Arts of the Terrace.

• If paying by check, write check to City of Mountlake Terrace.

• Please register early, classes may be canceled if registration is insufficient.

• Returned check fee: $25 • Participation is voluntary and participants agree to assume responsibility for any injury or damage to person or property.

• Video tapes and photographs may be taken and used for publication.

Refunds • Full refunds will be given if classes are canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department.

• General Programs/Classes: Programs cancelled by the city will result in a prorated refund of program fees for classes not yet attended. No refunds are available for less than $5. Customer cancellations will incur a $10 processing fee per program/class. No refunds will be given if a program is cancelled due to emergency or weather for the first two cancelled days.
