Lydia Amputees Gala 2026 Journal

Page 1

Good Evening Everyone, It is with a heart full of gratitude that I welcome you to the Lydia Amputees Foundation’s 5th Anniversary Gala. Five years ago, this foundation began with a vision born from my own personal journey as an amputee. I knew firsthand that losing a limb could affect much more than the body—it could impact a person emotionally, financially, socially, and spiritually. I wanted to create a place where amputees and individuals living with disabilities could find encouragement, resources, understanding, and, most importantly, hope. Our mission at Lydia Amputees Foundation is to empower, restore, and rebuild the lives of amputees and individuals with disabilities. We strive to remind every person we serve that their circumstances do not define their future and that they do not have to walk this journey alone. Over the past five years, our foundation has grown from a vision into a community. We have provided financial assistance, mobility and adaptive equipment, transportation support, peer support, community outreach, educational programs, our annual 5K Walk, and The Missing Piece Podcast. Through these efforts, we have been blessed to touch lives locally, nationally, and even internationally. Tonight’s gala is much more than a celebration. It represents five years of perseverance, compassion, service, partnerships, and people coming together for a greater purpose. This event would not have become what it is without the tremendous support of our sponsors. To every business, organization, community partner, and individual who donated, purchased an advertisement, sponsored a table, provided an auction item, bought a ticket, volunteered, or simply shared our mission— thank you. Your generosity allows Lydia Amputees Foundation to continue reaching people who need assistance, encouragement, and hope. To my family and friends, thank you for standing beside me. Building a foundation requires sacrifice, time, patience, faith, and many long days and nights. Your encouragement has helped me continue even during the most difficult moments. I also want to thank our board members, volunteers, supporters, healthcare professionals, prosthetic providers, community organizations, and every person who has believed in the mission of LAF. Each of you has become part of our story. When we first began planning our fifth anniversary, I wanted it to be something special. I wanted this gala to bring together amputees, families, healthcare professionals, sponsors, businesses,

community leaders, and supporters under one roof. I wanted people not only to celebrate what we have accomplished, but to see the lives behind the mission and understand why this work matters. What started as an anniversary celebration has grown into one of the most significant events in the history of our foundation. Tonight represents how far we have come—and it also represents where we are going. There is still so much work ahead of us. There are amputees who need transportation. There are individuals who need mobility equipment. There are families searching for resources. There are people struggling emotionally after limb loss who simply need someone to remind them that life can still be meaningful, joyful, and filled with purpose. That is why we will continue. As I often say, “Reach One, Help One.” If each of us reaches one person and helps one person, together we can change countless lives. As we celebrate five years, I ask you to continue walking alongside Lydia Amputees Foundation. Continue sharing our mission. Continue supporting our programs. Continue introducing us to people and organizations who can help us reach even more individuals. Tonight, we celebrate five years strong—empowering hope, restoring lives, and rebuilding together. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to our sponsors, my family, my friends, our volunteers, our board, our partners, and every guest who is here tonight. You are not simply attending a gala—you are helping us build a future where no amputee has to feel that they are facing their journey alone. May God continue to bless each of you, and may God continue to bless the Lydia Amputees Foundation. Thank you for believing in our mission, thank you for believing in our community, and thank you for helping us reach one and help one.

Guest Speaker Michael Rayer is one of the founding members of Prosthetic Innovations and an upper-extremity prosthetic specialist with more than 26 years of experience. He has worked with Lydia since her very first prosthetic fitting and has had the privilege of witnessing her journey from the earliest days following her limb loss to becoming the inspirational founder of the Lydia Amputees Foundation. I have been fortunate to know Lydia for the past six years. We met shortly after the accident in which she lost her left hand, and I had the opportunity to work with her during the fitting of her first prosthesis. Since that time, I have watched her grow tremendously—not only in accepting and adapting to her limb loss, but also in transforming that experience into a source of strength, encouragement, and hope for others. I could not be prouder of all that Lydia has accomplished and of the meaningful work she continues to do through the Lydia Amputees Foundation. On the occasion of the Foundation’s fifth anniversary, I am honored and grateful to be included in this very special celebration.
