Hymnal 598 - Watch Ye Saints

1 Watch, ye saints, with eyelids waking; Lo! The powers of heaven are shaking; Keep your lamps all trimmed an burning, Ready for your Lord’s returning.

Refrain Lo! He comes, lo! Jesus comes; Lo! He come, He comes all glorious! Jesus comes to reign victorious, Lo! He comes, yes, Jesus comes.

2 Lo! the promise of your Savior, Pardoned sin and purchased favor, Blood-washed robes and crowns of glory; Haste to tell redemption’s story.

3 Kingdoms at their base are crumbling, Hark! His chariot wheels are rumbling; Tell, O tell of grace abounding, While the seventh trump is sounding.

4 Nations wane, though proud and stately; Christ His kingdom hasteneth greatly; Earth her latest pangs is summing; Shout, ye saints, your Lord is coming.

5 Sinners, come, while Christ is pleading; Now for you He’s interceding; Haste, ere grace and time diminished Shall proclaim the mystery

We thou t you today, but th is n hing new. We thou t about you yesterday And days before th t . We think you in silence, We ten speak your name.

Now a we have are m ories

And your picture in a frame. Your m ory is our k psake W h i we’ never part.

God has you in his k ping, We have you in our heart.

On September 3, 1963, Donald Dorman and Cynthia Cole welcomed a rare and exquisite gem into their lives. They named her Charmaine Andrea Dorman.

She was born in the beautiful mountainous District of Coker, in the parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies.

Charmaine, a ectionately called Charm and Birdie by many, was born a winner. Before her first birthday, she was awarded many gifts, including a hen and a rooster, from the clinic she attended for being the best baby of the year.

For the first 12 years of her life, she was raised by her grandparents, Sturley and Amanda Cole. She attended Coker Basic School and Glen Stewart Primary School.

At the age of 12, Charmaine migrated to Kingston to live with her mother, Cynthia Cole-Thompson, and stepfather, Ivanhoe Thompson. Her education continued as she attended the Windward Road All-Age School, where she was involved in a variety of sporting activities, including shot put and discus. Her biggest competitor was her younger sister Joycinth.

She then attended Dunoon Park Technical High School from 1979 to 1982, where she specialized in home economics. Charm was very gifted in the culinary arts. She was known for making the best fruit cakes, banana breads, Easter buns, red velvet cakes, and many other delicacies. The best part about her was that she always shared with others.

In 1982, Charmaine hit the jackpot. She attended a New Year’s Eve Party in New Kingston, Jamaica, where she met the love of her life. The most wonderful, brilliant, jovial, attentive, loving, handsome, and God-fearing man, Robert Simms, where they would go on to marry on January 16, 1987!

As time passed, Charmaine kept moving forward to higher heights. In 1985, she migrated to the United States and attended DeVry University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Management.

After being a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, she went on to provide educational guidance to her children as they attended primary and secondary school. She then put her educational skills to work, becoming an asset to the Board of Education, where she worked as a Program Director in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Charmaine is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; her son, Brandon; daughters, Stephanie and Amanda; her mother, Cynthia and stepfather, Ivanhoe. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings; Joycinth, Jacqueline, Dahlia, Floyd, Carol, Sophia, Tanya, Rochelle, Clevon, Keisha, Elton, and Rosemarie; nine nieces, eight nephews, four grandnieces, and two grandnephews.

Charmaine leaves behind many cousins, in-laws, and a host of friends and additional relatives. She was predeceased by her father, Donald Dorman and sister,Deborah Dorman.

Charmaine was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Oranges. She was involved in community service, a church board member, a choir member, a member of the Adventurer & Pathfinder Clubs, and many other community outreach activities.

Charmaine had a deep passion for people, which fueled her unwavering commitment to humanitarian work. Her compassion led her to actively engaging in outreach programs, where she cared for the unsheltered, o ering them the same meals she served her own family. To her, nothing was too good for anyone in need.

On March 28, 2025, her journey on earth came to an end. She took her rest in the Lord, awaiting the day when the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

Ms. Birdie lived a great life.

Sleep in God’s peace, Ms. Birdie.

You, My Wife, My Treasure

I had walked through life with nothing until you; until you, I knew no pleasure.

And then one day God sent you to me; you, my wife, my treasure.

A gift from God, a gift so fine that you can never be measured.

A love so fine, so sweet, so kind; it’s you, my love; you, my wife, my treasure.

I promise to hug and kiss and hold you each day.

I promise a love with devotion that will never ever fade away.

I promise and swear to God above

To show you nothing but my pure love.

I will admire the blessing of your boundless love, Because I know that you are a true gift from heaven above.

I will kiss you and love you all that I possibly can, And don’t be embarrassed to be seen holding my hand.

I will treasure each day as if it were our last,

And at the end of your life you won’t regret me being your past.

You are the sunshine in my morning, and like a the bird, I will sing you a song.

I know that in this life when I am troubled, through God it’s you who keeps me strong.

You are the mother of my children and the air that gives me life,

My truest friend of all, my heart, my soul, my wife.

Charmaine I love you very much; you are all that is good in this world.

W h Love Always, Robert
