October 25 - North land Col lege hosted the Trojans in Ashland in another tight battle. Pete Zel l put NWC on the scoreboard w ith a 60-yard run after recoverin g a fumb le. That and the ext ra point proved to be sufficient for a 7-6 shaving of the Lumberjacks. November 1 - Quarterback Steve Eh lke hit Thompson wi th t wo to uchdown passes in the first half, w h ich enab led Northwester n to stay close in the ear ly stages of the Lakeland game. However, the powerfu l running game of the Musk ies eventua lly sty mied the Trojans, 35-1 4. November 8 - Perha ps t he bi ggest t hri 11 of the season came in the come-from-behi nd victory over Concordia-River Forest, 29-28. Fo llowing scoring runs by Schultz and Schuppenhauer and touchdown passes fro IT' Schultz to Swanson and Norm Seeger to Thompson, the "B lack and Red" were sti ll on the short end of a 28 - 26 score m idway thro ugh fourth peri od. T hen wi th less t han two minutes remaining, Swanson exhib ited his talented toe and kicked the pi gskin through the uprights for a 41 - yard field goal and the winning points. The T rojans wi ll lose seven exper ienced sen iors, which wi ll leave ho les in both the offensive and defensive squads. In sp ite of the losses, a group of underclassmen is eager to fi 11 the shoes of the graduating heroes. However, we w ill retain our most important asset for t he 1970 season: Coach Len Umnus has proven his mer its for many years on NWC' s gridiron and Asst. Coach John Chworowsky was an additi ona l spark to urge on our weary warriors.
