WELCOME Welcome to New Ulm and Martin Luther College, your WELS College of Ministry.

While New Ulm has been the host city for this tournament many times, each time it occurs MLC considers it a privilege anew.

MLC is owned and operated by the WELS for the sole purpose of educating young men and women for the public ministry. It offers five ways to enter that ministry; they are pastoral ministry, early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and staff ministry. We hope to see many of the participants of this tournament as students on this campus one day.

We hope this tournament will be a joyful experience for players, coaches, cheerleaders, parents and friends. While we may have dif­ ferent loyalties to different schools and teams, we are one in Christ as children of God. In that spirit may we enjoy not only the games but also our kinship with one another.

From the Tournament Director: Tournament time is an exciting time. The athletes are trying to win a championship and the students and parents are cheering on their favorite team. Tournament time is also a time to practice sportsman­ ship. We sincerely hope that good sportsmanship will be exhibited by the players and coaches and equally good sportsmanship by both stu­ dents and parents.

Some of the things to remember are: Only one team can win and the players must learn to be good winners and good losers. The referees are trying their best to call a good game. You may not agree with every call they make but they are trying to be fair to each team. When you are cheering, cheer for the good things your team does and not the bad things the other team does.

We hope you have a good time and enjoy the tournament.

CODE OF ETHICS FOR BASKETBALL FANS 1.

Spectators are an important part of the game and should at all times conform to accepted standards of good sportsmanship and behavior.

2.

Spectators should at all times respect officials, coaches, and play­ ers and extend all courtesies to them.

3.

Enthusiastic and wholesome cheering is encouraged.

4.

Booing, stamping feet, and disrespectful remarks should be avoid­ ed at all times.

5.

Bells, whistles, or noisemakers are not permitted to be used in the gym.

During free throws, there should be absolute quiet.
