Geological Study / Site Analysis

Diagrammatic evaluation of the geological conditions on site & establishing the natural conditions on site.

Site Analysis / Design Development

Emulating the complex volumes of the landscape by viewing them through a light-bending device [ a prism ].

Materiality & Geometry Development

The project placed particular emphasis on analysing the structure and textile qualities of the rocky formations found on site.

The process involved seperating them into layers of sediment, and then diving them in a grid like fashion in order to obtain a functional kit of parts to be used for form finding. A lot of the analysis was done using real fragments collected from the area during the site visit.

Design Development

Creating an architectural language derived from the organic volumes of the stone on site, encased within a rigid spatial guideline.

Architectural Technology

The inner steel frame structure supports the much lighter concrete tile paneling. The drawings below illustrate the intricacies of how the various layers come together.

Architectural Technology .2

In depth 1:20 detail showcasing the structural buildup of the walls, roof and floor, and how these elements connect together.

Final Drawings

The structure not only serves as a gathering space for the local community when concerned with flooding, it also functions as a bridge allowing easy traverse between the banks

Final Renders

Depicting the atmosphere of the proposal and its relationship with the surrounding area. The first image highlights how the building responds to it’s programme, as well as the environmental aspects including light, positioning and materiality.

Final Internal Renders

The goal of these images was to show the effect the internal cladding has on the voids of the spaces. The dynamic, dionysian form creates a setting that mimics the surrounding organic landscape.

The plan places emphasis on ease of movement, bott through the scheme, as well as across it. This enables the emergency responders to be able to quick address any distress signals.

The masterplan elaborates on the response to site conditions such as the wind, seasons, sunlight and community requirements.

Final Renders .2

Depicting the atmosphere of the proposal and adjustment to the seasonal shifts. Additionally, the diagram below shows how the landscape will shift around the proposal in the coming years, and how the current form will disappear.

Internal Layout

The internal renders highlight how the scheme responds to the natural scenery around it, by framing select views of the landscape. The below diagrams elaborate on the internal design development
