We Are Lady Made
1. When was Ladymade established?
The concept of Ladymade has been in the back of my mind for years (!). We officially launched the brand in the summer of 2020--as a response to Covid and its effect on creative ladies in our state.
2. What’s Ladymade’s mission?
Ladymade is a place where creative ladies in Connecticut can explore their creativity; participate in pleasurable activities; and feel a sense of belonging within a community of like-minded womxn.
3. Is there a process to join Ladymade?
Right now, Ladymade is an open community--anyone who wants to be involved in any way is welcome!
4. During the year, what community service does Ladymade get involved with?
We have our own mutual aid fund called Ladyaid that we manage and invite womxn to be a part of. Through Ladyaid, womxn are in NEED can receive from womxn who have surplus.
5. The name of your former magazine?
Prior to founding Ladymade, I published a monthly magazine for women living intentionally, called The Perpetual You. We published digitally in 2016-18 and put out a print publication in 2018-19.
6. Was there a purpose for your magazine?
The Perpetual You is a place where womxn who are living intentionally can be supported, encouraged, and advised. Additionally, we had a particular mission to showcase the lives, homes, careers, and dreams of REAL womxn. (No photoshopping! No “100 Ways To…” lists.)
7. The future of Ladymade?
Right now, we’re focused on community-building, which includes supporting & selling the work of female makers & artists, establishing our mutual aid fund, supporting “Ladyled” events (as well as holding our own), offering business tools & resources to all womxn entrepreneurs, sharing the voices + viewpoints of womxn on our Ladysaid blog, and curating a comprehensive directory of Ladymakers in Connecticut. I imagine it will take 3-5 years for these various aspects to become self-sustaining. After that, the sky’s the limit!
8. Advice for women entrepreneurs?
The only advice I feel comfortable giving to a fellow entrepreneur (or any womxn) is to look within for the things she’s seeking. I’m a big believer that we are our own solutions. Though I don’t give a lot of advice, I love to listen and am here for any creative lady who wants to talk things through!
9. How do you balance work/life?
I like to think of my “work” and my “life” as a blend rather than a balance. Sometimes they blend together to the point I can’t tell them apart anymore--and sometimes, they’re two distinct things that influence each other. Though the blend is ever-changing, framing it this way allows me to remain intuitive rather than try to reach some arbitrary standard I’ve created just for the sake of having a standard.
