Military Time Chart With Minutes Minutes never change between the two clocks - only the hour moves. This table shows every quarter hour for all 24 hours; any other minute works exactly the same way (for example, 1447 is 2:47 PM, because 14 is 2 PM and the 47 minutes carry straight over). Military

One detail to notice: the minutes are written as two digits and there is no colon in military time. 6:05 PM becomes 1805 - written as one four-digit block.

How to Convert Military Time Military time to regular time Look at the hour. If it is 00 to 11, the time is AM: drop the leading zero (00 becomes 12) and you are done. If it is 12 to 23, the time is PM: subtract 12 from the hour (12 itself stays 12). The minutes never change in either case. Regular time to military time For AM times, keep the hour and write it with two digits - except 12 AM, which becomes 00. For PM times, add 12 to the hour - except 12 PM, which stays 12. Remove the colon and the AM/PM label. The two special cases: midnight and noon Midnight is 0000 at the start of the day; some schedules write the same instant as 2400 when it marks the END of a day (a shift ending at 2400 on Tuesday ends as Wednesday begins). Noon is always 1200. These two, plus 'minutes never change', are the whole system.

How to Say Military Time Out Loud On the hour, say the hour as hundreds: 0800 is 'zero eight hundred hours', 1500 is 'fifteen hundred hours'. With minutes, read the two halves: 0730 is 'zero seven thirty', 2145 is 'twenty-one forty-five'. In everyday civilian use of the 24-hour clock, people often write a colon (14:30) and simply say 'fourteen thirty'.

Worked Examples A nurse sees a dose charted for 1930: 19 minus 12 is 7, so the dose is due at 7:30 PM. A flight lands at 0650: morning hour, 6:50 AM. A warehouse shift starts at 2200: 22 minus 12 is 10, so 10:00 PM. A train departs 13:05 on a European timetable: 1:05 PM. Going the other way, a 4:40 PM meeting is 1640, and a 12:15 AM alarm is 0015.

Practice Questions Convert these to regular time: 1) 0545 2) 1210 3) 1755 4) 0040 5) 2030 6) 0935. Convert these to military time: 7) 8:25 AM 8) 3:50 PM 9) 11:05 PM 10) 12:45 PM. Answers: 1) 5:45 AM 2) 12:10 PM 3) 5:55 PM 4) 12:40 AM 5) 8:30 PM 6) 9:35 AM 7) 0825 8) 1550 9) 2305 10) 1245. If you missed any, re-check the two rules on the previous page - nearly every mistake is a forgotten plus-or-minus 12, or a swapped midnight and noon.

Frequently Asked Questions What time is 1800 in military time? 1800 is 6:00 PM. Subtract 12 from 18 and add PM. Is 2400 a real military time? Yes, but only as the end of a day. The clock runs 0000 to 2359; 2400 appears on schedules to mean midnight at the close of that day - the same instant as 0000 starting the next one. Does military time use a colon? No. It is written as four digits with no colon - 1430, not 14:30. Civilian 24-hour time in many countries does use the colon. Why is there no AM or PM? Because each hour number is used once per day, the label is unnecessary. That is the entire point: 1900 cannot be confused with 7 in the morning.
