TRADITION ADDITION

Giving Coastal Students a Home

CHANGING THE Culture

For nearly half a century, William Carey University has established its presence along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Recognized nationally as a vibrant, Christ-centered institution of higher learning, the Tradition campus stands ready to enhance its educational opportunities by offering affordable, on-campus housing to its students. This project will change the culture of the Tradition campus from a commuter campus to a residential community. Currently, no other university on the Gulf Coast provides its students with the option to reside on campus while matriculating toward a degree.

We are pleased to announce that there is an opportunity for donors to be part of this exciting project. By investing in affordable student housing, donors are not just funding a building, but instead, they are opening doors to higher education for more students, helping to fuel the local economy, developing a stronger work force, and providing avenues for more students to experience a Christ-centered environment.

HOW WILL ON-CAMPUS HOUSING OPEN THE DOORS TO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR MORE STUDENTS?

According to research, housing insecurity is a major reason students drop out of college. When housing is affordable, college education becomes more financially assessable to a wider range of students. Those students who might otherwise not be able to afford to attend college on the Mississippi Gulf Coast will be more likely to enroll and stay through graduation.

HOW WILL THE ADDITION OF CAMPUS HOUSING HELP FUEL THE LOCAL ECONOMY?

Affordable housing attracts more students to the region, and as a result, many will stay in that area after graduation to work, buy homes, and strengthen the local workforce. Additionally, students with affordable housing often have more disposable income to spend on local goods, restaurants, entertainment, and services.

HOW WILL AFFORDABLE CAMPUS HOUSING HELP TO DEVELOP A STRONGER WORK FORCE?

When students have access to affordable housing, they are more likely to enroll, persist, and graduate. Adding more graduates to the local work force grows a larger pool of qualified, degreeholding individuals with a more specialized set of work skills. The future work force will be enhanced through educated, resilient workers who are rooted in the community.

HOW WILL THE ADDITION OF STUDENT HOUSING ON THE TRADITION CAMPUS OPEN DOORS FOR STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE A CHRIST-CENTERED ENVIRONMENT?

Affordable housing on the Tradition campus will allow students to live among peers who share their values and commitment to Christian discipleship. Experiencing an affordable Christian environment during college lays the foundation for students to live Christ-centered lives in their families, churches, workplaces, and communities

You can make a lasting difference, not just in the life of one student, but in the future of the Tradition campus, our local economy, and surrounding communities. Your gift will open the door for more students to learn the skills they need for their future careers in an educational environment that strengthens both the mind and spirit.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

We are raising $5 million to provide students with a community and a home just a few steps from their classes. This project is more than a building; it will breathe life into the campus and start the transformation of a university campus greatly needed on the Gulf Coast.
