elcome to our annual Holiday Catalog feast for the eyes. If you visited us in person this year, you know the variety and quality of the magical shopping experience offered by our retailers. If you were not our guest, we hope to see you in the future. But, in the meantime, for all of you, please enjoy the pages of this catalog. Use it to shop from the comfort of your home and to help you find gifts that are truly unique and rare – gifts that will thrill the recipients and that will reflect your own distinctive tastes. If you are lucky enough to live locally or if you plan a visit this season, you might want to know about the festive holiday events we have planned. Before you read this we will already have held our annual “Ladies Opening Night” of shopping season. Deer widows and those who love to shop will visit the stores on a Friday night planned just for them. After shopping they will attend the Deer Camp Party held at Stafford’s Perry Hotel. Nearly $3,000 of prizes will be given away to lucky winners in the Buck Pole drawing. If you missed this event this year, plan to organize a group of friends and join us next year – the first Friday of deer season. The Saturday after Thanksgiving we will host Stafford’s Downtown Petoskey Holiday Parade and welcome the arrival of Santa to Downtown. This year’s parade grand marshal will be staff from Bearcub Outfitters, a much loved Downtown merchant that is celebrating 20 years of business. Bearcub is a unique, independent store that carries your favorite brands of up north apparel for the entire family – even your dog. Parade day is the day that Santa officially arrives in Downtown Petoskey. He will be led by miniature live reindeer who will be available for petting in the garden of Stafford’s Perry Hotel immediately after the parade. Of course, another reason to visit the Perry after the parade will be to visit with Santa. If you haven’t had the opportunity to share secret wishes with Santa in his sleigh on the veranda with the beautiful Little Traverse Bay as a backdrop, you should not let another year go by before you start the magical tradition. The first Friday night in December is, of course, the premier event of all Northern Michigan events, Holiday Open House. The streets will be closed and filled with merrymakers. The stores will be open and offering hospitality as they showcase all of their beautiful gifts for the coming holidays. The tree will be lit by Santa Claus and Santa will visit with children at the gazebo in Pennsylvania Park throughout the evening. And don’t forget the evening’s performances by the Petoskey High School Steel Drum Band! The tradition of their performances began at the Downtown Petoskey Holiday Open House almost 20 years ago and continues today. The holiday open house concept has been copied elsewhere, but this one is the original, and the magic that is this night will never fade. You are invited to share these occasions this with us this season. Downtown Petoskey offers a picturesque, unique experience that is certain to put you in the best holiday mood ever. Please also enjoy our catalog and all of the tantalizing shopping experiences it offers. Petoskey artist Kevin Barton has been working full time for over twenty years capturing Northern Michigan and areas further afield. He particularly enjoys capturing moments such as the Downtown Petoskey Open House with a warm glow and affection for the area and our local events and this year’s piece, entitled “Moon Over Open House”, is no exception. Barton’s work has garnered numerable accolades with highlights being the Gold Medal at the Manoogian Museum 2011, a solo show “Twenty Years in Retrospect” held at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in 2016, and being awarded signature member status with the American Impressionist Society.
