Welcome to the Parade of Homes MESSAGE FROM THE PARADE CHAIRMAN Welcome to our premier “Parade of Homes”! This will be an annual event Presented by the Home Builders Association of Northern Michigan (HBANM) Showcasing the newest trends in construction and building design in one of Michigan’s most beautiful regions. This event is a major project of the Home Builders Association of Northern Michigan and their sponsors, which are comprised of developers, general and specialty contractors, suppliers and associates. Take a peek inside Northern Michigan’s elite new homes. This parade is your opportunity to find the latest in building and decorating trends. Be sure to check out architecture and craftsmanship as well as the plumbing, electrical, countertops, flooring, painting. Take notice of the decking, landscaping, siding, doors and windows.
The builders and some associates will be available at each home, just waiting to answer any questions you may have about the details of their home. Take a minute to compliment them on their work and effort that goes into building a home. We are very proud to have the Boyne City High School Trades Class Home in our event this year. Students have worked together to complete this beautiful home that will be sold in the near future. I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to tour these wonderful creations. I hope that you enjoy your visit and find new things to add to your plans for remodeling or building new in the future. Whether you are a first time buyer, are looking for an upgrade to a more luxurious property or remodeling, this event is perfect for you. Sincerely, Jesse Dean Wimsatt Building Supplies Parade of Homes 2018 Chairman and HBANM member

Note from the President The Parade of Homes has long been a desire to bring back the Greater Northern Michigan area and this year mark’s its first return in more than a decade. The HBA of Northern Michigan (HBANM) looks to continue the success from this year’s event on a annual basis looking forward, allowing our local contractors and associates to showcase the latest trends in design, technology, & construction. Our local and talented builders will be available at each of the homes to help answer any of your questions. Please take your time through each of the properties to look at and hopefully appreciate the attention to detail throughout the entire structure. The builders on hand will help illustrate their process as well as the story of that particular build.

Char-Em United Way
CHANGING LIVES IMPROVING COMMUNITIES
Char- Em United Way has been an important part of Charlevoix and Emmet Counties for 75 years. Our mission is to unite the people and resources of our counties to build strong communities - communities where individuals and families achieve their potential through education, financial stability, and healthy lives. The ALICE (asset limited, income constrained, Employed) report looks at a basic survival budget in our two counties and compares that to earnings data. Where the two meet is considered the ALICE Threshold. Approximately 38% of households in our two counties are at or under this threshold. Supporting ALICE is the foundation of our work.
Dedicated to the protection and care of all animals, the Charlevoix Area Humane Society is an independent non-profit 501(c)3 nokill animal shelter that has been serving pets and their humans in Charlevoix County since 1974. We rely almost exclusively on donations and fundraisers to help the lost, neglected, abused, and abandoned animals of Charlevoix County.

Char-Em United Way works to bring together people with passion, expertise and resources – from across the community – to get things done. Our goal is to create a better foundation for the next generation to stay, work and live in our community. Thanks to an abundant use of windows that deliver a grand view of Crooked Lake, the home feels airy and much larger than it is. The homeowners also love how well the layout functions for their family - especially when they are entertaining. The kids’ bedrooms are off a large landing at the top of the stairs - roomy enough to double as an entertainment room. When the adults are enjoying cocktail hour or a dinner party downstairs, they can pull a sliding door across the kitchen/great WITH HOME WATCHED BY: room area to seal it off from the kids’ ruckus upstairs (or vice versa!). Edgewater Design Group helped the homeowners come up with a timeless cottage design that breathes efficiency into every nook and cranny. It also expresses the synergy of the homeowners and EDG, who emailed each other links to products they liked throughout the building process. That teamwork resulted in an interior that sports a young take on classic cottage. Highlights include a brass sink and light fixtures, coffered ceilings with wide beadboard planks, leathered granite kitchen counters and a way-cool floor made of American chestnut planks from an old barn. 301 E. HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF NORTHERN MICHIGAN
1107 WILSON STREET | BOYNE CITY, MI 49712 1850 sq/ft
3 Bedrooms
2 Full Baths
New custom built home steps away from Avalanche Recreation Area. Featuring 1850 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, attached garage, with maple flooring. This home is built by the students of Boyne City Public Schools CTE Building Trades program. The Price will be determined by the Board of Education upon completion in June. Pricing will be available at the house during the Parade of Homes. “Building Trades was quite a cool experience for me. I have always been into working with my hands, whether it be furniture in woodworking class to building a house, it has always intrigued me. I signed up to do Building Trades not because I would build my own house someday, but to gain experience for things that I may want to build in the future. Not only did I learn more in one building trades class than in multiple academic classes, I learned what kind of work it takes to construct that seemed like a huge undertaking. In 9 months, for two hours a day in my class, we went from a hole dug in the ground that our instructor Mr. Todd Shumaker said would eventually be a house. Now we finishing some siding and painting in my finals days of my high school career. It is challenging at times to be learning so much, and every now and again, have to pull up some flooring or a board that wasn’t cut or laid right; but, from the start Mr. Shumaker told us that just because we are a bunch of kids learning how to build a house doesn’t mean it has to have that “name” that a bunch of kids built it. Building this house was more than just constructing something that we would gain experience and knowledge on, it was really rewarding, to say that I (and some other classmates) built this. It will be something I never forget, the bonus of it all is, it wasn’t just hard work, it was fun. I get WITH HOME WATCHED BY: to go to building trades, not have to go to building trades. From the setting forms to the creation of our BOYNE CITY HIGH SCHOOL beautiful laminate countertops, these are skills I will never lose… ‘Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I may remember, Involve me and I learn.’ -Ben Franklin” - LORIN BURCH SKILL TO BUILD
