2021 Ambassadors
The Texas Cares For Children program was created to address social inequality on a peer-to-peer level through leadership development, community partnerships and training. Texas Cares For Children, a 501(c)(3), strives to bring life skills, values education, and leadership into schools; demonstrating the importance of setting personal and educational goals; teaching students how to stand up to negative peer pressure and turn it into positive peer pressure and establishing lifelong healthy practices. The initial program was developed in 1993 through collaborative efforts with the National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and won the endorsement of former President George Bush and then Secretary of Education, Lamar Alexander. Our Ambassadors serve in the community promoting the concept of helping each individual participant in developing and improving

SHERRY HANSON IMPACT & INVOLVEMENT Local Director, 30 years Volunteer, 10 years
Sherry Hanson became involved with the Miss Texas Organization because she wanted to help young women grow and earn scholarships. "The joy it has added to my life when I've seen so many young women grow up to become doctors, lawyers, veterinarians, wives and mothers is endless. It is amazing to think that we have been just a small part of their learning by way of growth of character and scholarships."
STORIES & MEMORIES Our teen, Sydney Capello, won Miss Teen Texas in 2008. My husband, Jim, jumped up and shouted "We're going to Disney World!" Shannon Sanderford was our titleholder in 2015 and her dad was sitting near us in the balcony. Her name was called and he almost fell over the railing!
BIO Sherry Hanson has been involved with all phases of competitions for the past 46 years and as a volunteer and local director with the Miss Texas Organization which is a part of the Miss America Organization for the past 40 years serving as a Board Member and Executive Director. She serves as the Executive Director for the Miss Fort Worth and Miss Coppell competitions in Texas and her background includes training in dance, baton twirling, vocal, gymnastics, music and modeling. Sherry prides herself in producing numerous Top 10 and Top 5 award winners in both the Miss Texas and Miss Texas Outstanding Teen competitions as well as Preliminary Swimsuit, Talent, On-stage Question and Community Service Award winners. Sherry and her husband Jim were honored to be inducted into the Miss Texas Hall of Honor in 2006 and again recognized in 2007 for dedication to the Miss Texas and Miss America Organization for their volunteer service. TERRI LANDES FORRESTER IMPACT & INVOLVEMENT Miss Texarkana, 1982 Parent of a former titleholder Donor
How did I get involved with Miss Texas? I saw a flyer! I grew up watching Miss America and always loved it, and I thought this would be a fun experience and a great opportunity. I was a dancer and had been a Lieutenant for the Texas Highsteppers at Texas High. I was crowned Miss Arkansas High she I transferred my senior year. Miss AHS was the first pageant I ever participated in and I loved it, so I thought maybe I would just try a bigger one by competing in Miss Texarkana. I won the swimsuit and interview categories, along with the title of Miss Texarkana, which provided the opportunity to compete at Miss Texas. Through the whole process, it really was the most amazing experience I had ever encountered.
STORIES & MEMORIES I was 18, working at Dillard's, and when I got the courage to ask about a sponsorship. They went above and beyond and donated my entire week's wardrobe. The community really rallied around me and helped me get there, which is something I will never forget.
I loved performing, the fanfare, how glamorous it all felt and really I felt so blessed to be in this group with so many unique women with big dreams and big hearts, and I loved being part of something bigger than myself.

BIO Terri used her scholarship money to take computer classes at Texarkana college. She later married her high school sweetheart, Bill, and they made their home in Texarkana. Terri and her daughter, Brittany Forrester Earnest, are the only mother-daughter duo to hold the titles of Miss Texarkana and Miss Teen Texarkana. Terri is now a proud grandmother of three: Callaway, Carlyle and Larkin.
