The Cherry Diamond • The Cherry Diamond magazine is mailed to members each month and features upcoming Club events, photos from past events and other vital Club information.

• It is also available online beginning the last Monday of every month.

The Buffet • The Buffet online newsletter is your short-term planning tool.

• The Buffet is delivered to your inbox each Monday and includes upcoming events, dining specials, new fitness classes, gift ideas and more.

The CWC a la Carte • The CWC a la Carte is delivered each Wednesday and includes all information about Clubs Within the Club events and news.

The Website - mac-stl.org • The MAC website is a helpful user-friendly resource to find information about every Club amenity available like fitness class schedules, reciprocal clubs and menus.

• There is a special “Members Central” area where you can check your billing statements, register online, update your Roster information and much more.

• Each member must register their account by creating a username and password. For help with login information, contact webmaster@mac-stl.org Online Registration • You have the convenience to register for many Club-sponsored events online.

Member Guide Book • The Member Guide Book comes out twice a year and updates you on youth activities, fitness schedules, facility hours, athletic programs available and much more.

Twitter- @macstlouis • Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to the question: What are you doing?

• On Twitter, follow the Club @ macstlouis to find out about dining specials, upcoming events and more. By following the Club, you are alerted each time a new “tweet” is sent out.

Facebook • Facebook is a social networking site used to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos and learn more about the people they meet.

• As a fan of the MAC, you can view photos from past events, find basic Club information and befriend your fellow members. Connect with MAC friends outside of the Clubhouse through Facebook.

Signs • Signs are posted around both Clubhouses with information on the latest upcoming events.

Dress Code Cell Phone Policy The Board of Governors and Management welcomes all members and guests to our Club, but there are guidelines to follow while in the Club. A Dress Code is part of the Club’s tradition and commitment to the community. It is an important component in maintaining the MAC’s well-deserved reputation as a premier athletic club.

The Board and Management asks that you acknowledge our commitment to continually serve members and guests at the MAC by adhering to the Dress Code. Members and guests will not have access to the Club’s public rooms if they are improperly dressed. Members and guests may, of course, arrive and depart in traveling clothes. The Dress Code pertains to all members and guests 14 years and older. Please cooperate with MAC staff and members as they support the Dress Code policy.

Athletic Facility Dress Code Colored attire may be worn in all athletic facilities. However, locker-holding members using the club laundry service colored performance materials are accepted. Cottons must be white or gray.

Soft-soled shoes are also required (no black soled shoes permitted on the courts.)

Cell Phone Policy The use of cellular/mobile telephones is not permitted in any café, bar, or dining room in either Clubhouse or in any other area designated by the Board of Governors or House Committee, provided that a member or a guest may receive a silent cellular call or page and may respond to it in a brief fashion, not exceeding 30 seconds.

Guest/Tip Policy

MISSOURI ATHLETIC CLUB GUEST POLICY • Spouses and their dependent children under age 25 have Club privileges with the permission of the primary member and are not subject to a guest fee. They must be listed as dependents in the Club records. All other family members are considered to be guests.

• All non-members are considered to be guests.

• Guests must be accompanied by the member and must be registered when entering any of the athletic facilities.

• Members are charged an $12 fee per guest per day for athletic facility use.

• Guests are limited to a maximum of 12 visits per year for athletic facility use.

• Members may bring guests for dining and social activities an unlimited number of times per year without a guest fee charge.

GUIDELINES FOR YOUTH Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian when using Club facilities, unless enrolled in an official program, lesson or Club activity directly supervised by MAC staff.

YOUTH IN BAR AREAS OF THE CLUB After 5:30 p.m., persons under twenty-one (21) years of age may not sit or stand in the immediate area of the bar in the Jack Buck Grill, Sportsman’s Club or in the West Clubhouse. The immediate area of the bar includes the bar itself and all tables and booths in the bar areas. Prior to 5:30 p.m., children in the bar area are to remain seated with their parents at all times. Parents are asked to assure that their child’s behavior is kept appropriate in the bar area and all areas of the Club.

TIPPING POLICY Gratuities, tips and gifts to employees are not permitted. Any member who offers or gives a gratuity, tip or gift to any employee will be subject to suspension for a period determined by the House Committee. Holders of family cards and guests who violate this rule, will be subject to loss of privileges of the Club. Any employee who accepts a tip or gratuity will be subject to dismissal.

MAC SHUTTLE BUS - 314-539-4402 The MAC shuttle bus seats 33 passengers and features a cargo compartment in the back, plush interior, a mobile phone, seat belts, head rests, and easy curbside access. The shuttle bus transports members to Busch Stadium for Cardinals games, the Scottrade Center for Blues games and the Chaifetz Arena for Billikens games, the Fox Theater and other membership activities.

Overnight guests sponsored by members can ride the shuttle to corporate training meetings. The Bus may also be rented for private use.

A large selection of athletic wear and equipment for men, women and children.

Court reservations may be phoned in or made in person for squash, racquetball and tennis. Online booking is also available.

Members and guests are asked to check in before going to their assigned court.

Complete schedules and information related to all programs and activities is available at the Pro Shop.

A member courtesy phone is available at the Pro Shop desk.

Racquets are available for purchase at a member discount rate.

Racquets may be rented at a charge of $3 per day.

Racquet stringing is available at a charge of $14 with a purchase of a new racquet.

Restring charges range from $24 to $36, depending on the string selection.

You have the choice of dining off of the lunch 1st Floor - Jack Buck Grill buffet or ordering from the a la carte menu. The Stan Musial Grill was designed with athletes in mind.

Athletic attire is permissible, so the Grill is a great place to get a bite to eat after working up an appetite while playing a big game or working out. The Stan Musial Grill is also a family-friendly venue. It is a wonderful place to bring the children. There are many popular menu options for the youngsters.

The Dining Room, which is located off the front entrance, offers members and guests an ideal venue to entertain business clients or celebrate a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. You can dine in refined elegance and enjoy a premier dining experience. Business casual attire is required. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. This area features two private dining alcoves that seat up to 12 people.

MAC DOWNTOWN CATERING SERVICES

The Missouri Athletic Club maintains a highly experienced and qualified catering staff that can assist you in planning every detail of your event from grand wedding receptions to sumptuous banquets, fundraisers, small gatherings and business meetings.

All of your catering requirements are handled and provided for in house to include a world-class culinary team headed by an Executive Chef. Our Pastry Chefs are known for making beautiful wedding cakes as well as for their mouth-watering desserts and pastries.

The Missouri Athletic Club offers a selection of fifteen elegantly appointed dining and meeting rooms. Floor plan layouts can be custom designed by the professional catering staff to meet any meeting or banquet space requirement.

Whether you plan a meeting for four or 400, our Downtown Clubhouse can make it a success.

FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

20/20/20- This is a 60-minute class that is broken down into basic step moves for 20 min. of cardio; weight lifting and resistance for 20 min; and floor work for abs and toning for 20 min.

30 Minute ABC- This ½ hour class will give you the results you are looking for!!! Come trim your waistline, while tightening your buns and strengthening your back.

30 Minute Abs- The ultimate half-hour gut-buster. This class targets your tummy, trims your waistline and will strengthen your back.

30 Min Strong- This express class will work both upper and lower body muscles utilizing a variety of free weights and resistance training.

Abs & Buns- Non-impact way to define your abs, lower back, hip and glutes. Bands and balls used to strengthen, tone and define! Floor work required.

Back To Basics “ B2B”- A physical conditioning program that combines strength and cardiovascular exercises to achieve total body training. Participants will be challenged with calisthenics, circuit, resistance and agility training, core strength and cardio endurance. “B2B” offers an exercise program that reduces weight, inches and allows people to see quick results. B2B is designed for all fitness levels with high and low impact adaptations to all exercises so everyone has a challenging workout.

Boot Camp- Get your day started with this fast-paced, action-packed, high-energy class that combines sports drills with resistance training. Build strength, agility and cardiovascular fitness while conditioning yourself to reach your ultimate potential. It’s like a double shot of espresso!

Bosu Classes- Bosu means “both sides up.” Bosu Ball is half a resist-a-ball and a step combined into one exciting new piece of exercise equipment. As you focus on balance, strength and flexibility, you will have a fun and challenging total-body workout.

Circuit Step and Step with Weights- Combination of step movements using hand weights and tension bands.

Combo-Bosu/Muscle Conditioning- This total body workout will include high intensity, low impact moves on and off of the Bosu Ball. This class will also include a muscle sculpting component, abs and stretching.

Dynamic Core- Strengthen your core with this non-impact class that works your abs, lower back, hips and glutes.

Bands and balls are used to strengthen, tone and define.

Express Workout- Express Workout will combine cardio, core, upper and lower free weight exercises along with stretching for a great total body workout in just 30 minutes.

Open to all fitness levels and age groups. Don’t let time be a factor in preventing you from working out.

Fitball- This class is a one-hour, low-impact, calorie burning exercise that strengthens and tones the core muscles while simultaneously working the other major muscle groups.

The resistance ball is used throughout the workout in conjunction with weights, medicine ball and other props.

Forever Fit- This 45-minute class is designed for the older adults, which combines nutrition/wellness information with low impact aerobics, stretching and toning. Participants can exercise at their own pace and there are chairs available for anyone who need to sit for some of the activities.

Hard-Body Yoga - Hard-Body Yoga is the “new and literally hot yoga hybrid” that combines strength training with yoga technique to create a strong physique in a one-hour class. You’ll work every major muscle group several times over without ever lifting a single weight. All you need is your body, an open mind and a yoga mat.

Judo- Judo gives you an excellent moderate physical activity, which improves and maintains muscle tone and stimulates mental activity.

Kettle Bells- Kettle Bells are a no-nonsense, to-the-point 30-minute class. Designed for those men and women who want real results but don’t have the usual hour or more to train. A great strength training class.

Ladies Silver Stretch - Ideal for older members.

Mat Pilates- For a strong core and strong limbs, try this exclusive floor workout. The Mat will work your powerhouse, back, legs and arms by using exercises that will help lengthen your muscles as they strengthen. Mat Pilates is an excellent workout for both men and women alike! It will improve your core strength, flexibility, co-ordination and muscle control.

Mix it Up- Featuring interval style training through a combination of cardio and strength training moves. This class will use a variety of equipment, from steps and bands to weights and Bosu Balls, in order to provide a total body workout. This is an energizing class that promises you results.

Muscle Conditioning- This class will work both upper and lower body muscles utilizing a variety of free weights and resistance training. From bands to balls to bars, this class will have you showing your stuff!

Muscle Up- A results-driven class using variable weight barbell sets, dumbbells, benches and stability balls. Simple, controlled movements set to upbeat music focus on specific muscle groups.

Performance Training- Performance training is geared towards working each muscle group to make everyday life activities easier. The class includes a variety of circuit workouts that will improve balance, flexibility, endurance, strength and give you energy that will help your performance throughout the day. The right way to do cardio is to keep it short and intense we will burn the fat without losing muscle.

Pilates- One of the fastest growing forms of exercise in the world. It is a safe, sensible system that improves core strength, flexibility and agility. The exercises strengthen and tone the entire body and develop toned muscles w/o creating excess bulk.

PILOXING- PILOXING uniquely blends the power, speed and agility of boxing with the beautiful sculpting and flexibility of Pilates. It is a fat torching, muscle sculpting, core-centric interval workout, guaranteed to whip you into shape. PILOXING is the brainchild of Swedish dancer and celebrity trainer Viveca Jensen.

Pi-Yo Roller- Utilizes a foam roller to combine movements from yoga to improve flexibility and balance. Movements from Pilates to increase core strength. And from myofascial release therapy targeting trigger points to soothe and release tight muscles.

Power Yoga- A fluid form of yoga that links each breath with a physical posture. This athletic and challenging practice incorporates core strength with flexibility, agility and endurance. P-U-M-P- Get ready for swimsuit season with Pump Up your Muscle Power. This 45-minute endurance strength training program is all about light resistance with increased repetitions. The use of balls, bands and bars will provide you with a total body workout that will show you results.

Sweat- Get ready for 45 minutes of heart pounding, calorie burning intervals on your choice of cardio equipment. The class will consist of intervals both on and off the equipment.

Weight-training exercises will also be incorporated.

Sweat and Sculpt- Will use a variety of equipment to perform calorie burning moves. Participants of any fitness level are encouraged to attend. Incorporates both cardiovascular and strength exercises.

Total Body- This class will challenge you with a mix of high intensity cardio kickboxing, high energy step and resistance training. Total Body is suitable for all fitness levels.

TRX- This class utilizes the TRX suspension trainer. You will use your own body weight to create a system that builds strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability. The TRX training system can be used by professional athletes to everyday people just looking for an edge in their training regimen.

Water Aerobics- This class highlights aerobic conditioning and muscle toning through low impact exercises performed with hand paddles, foam noodles and bands in shallow water.

Learn to Swim Youth Swim Clinic Saturdays, April 14 - May 19 11:15-11:45 a.m.

The clinic is for beginner swimmers ages 4-8 and is instructed by MAC Swim Coach Lauren Fonseca and staff. Swimmers will become comfortable in the water and learn floating and breathing techniques. MAC/PLYOCITY SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAM AT WEST CLUBHOUSE The MAC/PlyoCity Sports Performance Training program is a great way for athletes to take their game to the next level. After training only twice a week, athletes will experience significant increases in vertical jump, foot speed, quickness, agility and explosiveness. Adult and junior athletes competing in any sport requiring explosiveness, speed, core strength or jumping will benefit. The program is a terrific way for youth athletes to prepare for tryouts and competition in the fall and winter.

The MAC is partnering with PlyoCity, the top plyometric trainer in the U.S., to provide its proven training program for members. The PlyoCity Sports Performance Program will combine a comprehensive series of plyometric and core strengthening exercises to increase performance and reduce the risk of sports related injuries. Athletes will work hard, but the workout’s fast pace and group setting make it enjoyable. The program is low impact and only twice per week, leaving plenty of time and energy for other sports activities.

The program uses the same workout used by thousands of athletes across the country, including PlyoCity clients Misty May and Kerri Walsh. May and Walsh won the gold medal in beach volleyball in Athens in 2004 after training with PlyoCity. They also repeated a gold medal win in Beijing in 2008. Misty and Kerri last trained with PlyoCity on July 31, 2008, right before leaving for Beijing. Many area high schools and select sports clubs have trained with 22

PlyoCity with excellent results. PlyoCity guarantees that every athlete will experience significant results, including a measurable increase in vertical jump. Athletes will be tested on the first day of their workout.

Personal Training DOWNTOWN STAFF Andrew Francis 314-749-5854 Andrew has been coaching and training athletes both as a team and individually for more than nine years. Andrew got his education while playing varsity basketball for Lehigh University. After graduating he coached at the high school level as well as for AAU girls’ and boys’ basketball teams.

Andrew is currently a level 4 certified personal trainer, as well as a certified spinning, group exercise, kickboxing and yoga instructor. He also has his certification in nutrition. Andrew is an authorized instructor through the Red Cross for CPR, AED and First Aid. His expertise ranges from weight loss to competitive athletics.

Jeanna Jackson 314-308-4075 Jeanna Jackson has 20 years experience in personal training and fitness education. She enjoys training clients of all different levels in a variety of activities. Jeanna is certified by the American Council on Exercise, the Aerobic Fitness Association of America, and is fully certified in Pilates through Power Pilates of New York. Jeanna has gained experience in every type of fitness activity available including cycling, yoga, pilates, strength training, water aerobics, personal training, aerobic dance and nutrition. She loves to help people get fit and obtain a higher energy level through personal training and improved health habits. Most importantly, she makes it fun to work out and is a pleasure to work with. Her motto is “Get Fit, Stay Fit and Never, Ever, Ever Quit!”

Keisha Burns 314-539-4495 Keisha has been with the MAC for more than 10 years. She came to the MAC with a degree in sports management, with her emphasis in fitness and sports medicine. She also has certifications in personal training and Pilates from the American Council on Exercise. With a life-long commitment to fitness, including scholarships in cross country and track, Keisha has the ability to make what some would consider work into fun.

Christine Elsesser 314-497-7182 Christine comes to the MAC with more than 10 years experience in health and fitness.

Her passion for fitness is the driving force behind her personal training career. She grew up playing competitive golf and tennis and has been an avid runner for many years. In addition to her personal training certification Christine is certified in group fitness, barbells and more recently Hard Body Yoga. She also coaches girls running. Because it is never too late nor too early to begin a fitness regime she looks forward to training at any level.

WEST STAFF Jesse Lopez 314-539-4444 x 7452 Jesse Lopez has 21 years of experience as a personal trainer and 12 years at the MAC. He is ACE, AED and CPR certified. He was a former Fitness Director for Sports Clubs of America-Concord. He also has been a corporate fitness trainer for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing, May Companies, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Schnucks Corp.

Jesse played college baseball at U.N.L.V. and has been an assistant baseball coach, pitching coach and strength coach at St. Louis Community College and Junior College District.

He is a managing partner with Fit one/Youthsport personal training, a sport specific company with emphasis in one-on-one sports conditioning. Jesse is also a former Channel 4 fitness correspondent.

Paul Helfrich 314-539-4444 x 7494 Paul is an ISSA certified personal trainer with three years of experience in training people of all ages. He is CPR, AED and First Aid certified. Paul graduated from Missouri State University where he studied recreation and leisure studies. He teaches boot camp and muscle up classes at the MAC. Susan Bischoff 314-539-4444 x 7493 Susan has been a personal trainer since 2001 and has been training and an aerobics instructor since 2006. She has trained in the corporate field including: Monsanto, Brown Shoe, Blue Cross Blue Shield and AG Edwards. Beth Clark 314-539-4444 x 7451 Beth graduated from Millikin University in 1999 with a B.S. in physical education with an emphasis in sports management. During the first two years she played for the Big Blue womens’ basketball team. She received her personal training certification in 1999 through International Fitness Professionals Association and has been training for 12 years and worked at the MAC for 10 years.

She became a spinning instructor in 2003 and teaches twice a week at west. She has also done wellness coaching and is a nutrition consultant for SNA. Beth is also certified in TRX Suspension Training.

Gil Claggett 314-539-4444 x 7454 Gil is an American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.) certified personal trainer and is CPR certified. Gil has more than 20 years professional experience as a personal trainer. He has also been certified by Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (A.F.A.A.) and Nautilus Equipment Company. His educational background includes: anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, weight training and conditioning, plyometrics, isometrics and cardio conditioning. Gil has been an employee of the MAC for more than 15 years.

David is trained to work with anyone from Athletes to the Casual Exerciser. David is also a Registered and Licensed Dietitian with a Masters degree in Nutrition and Physical Performance from Saint Louis University. He is able to provide nutrition education / intervention for weight loss, athletes and for those with diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and others.

Kerri Simon

314-539-4433 x 7405 314-422-6932 Kerri is an AFAA certified personal trainer, AFAA certified group fitness instructor, and Johnny G certified spinning instructor.

She is also CPR and first aid certified through the American Red Cross. Kerri teaches Fitball at West twice a week, Spinning at West three times a week, and the more recently added Sweat class that is now offered twice a week. As a mother of three young children, Kerri is actively involved in the fitness industry and knows the importance of whole body fitness. She believes in the need for a balance between cardio respiratory exercise, strength training, and core conditioning.

MAC FITNESS CENTER ETIQUETTE 1. If you use it, please put it away.

For safety reasons, please re-stack your weights and dumbbells after you are finished using them. Also, please be courteous to other members by placing bands, steps, balls, periodicals, etc. back in proper storage areas.

2. Please clean up after yourself.

Once you are finished with a piece of equipment, please wipe it clean with disinfectant spray. This will ensure for a cleaner and healthier workout environment.

3. Share with other members.

Instead of getting upset when someone is monopolizing a piece of strength equipment, just ask to “work in.”

This means you are taking turns lifting while they rest between sets.

4. Be aware of surroundings.

Don’t rest on equipment. If doing multiple reps, please get up while you rest and let others work in with you.

5. Please follow rules.

Be considerate of the other members by observing the cardio usage limits posted in the Fitness Center.

Please wear appropriate attire while working out. Street clothes such as sandals and jeans are not permitted.

Since the majority of members arrive in their workout attire, please be cognizant at all times of the cleanliness of your shoes. Dirt, mud, and grime will decrease the longevity of the fitness equipment. Also, avoid using cell phones in the Fitness Center. It can be distracting to others as well as dangerous. Cell phones are allowed in the Fitness Center only in case of emergencies.

6. Loud noises can happen.

During workouts, breathing heavily is a normal part of many people’s exercise habits. However, please be respectful of other members working out and those who are receiving a massage and try to keep the grunting and groaning to a minimum.

7. Where is my stuff?

Lockers are provided for your personal belongings.

Please only bring what you need for your workout to the Fitness Center.

8. Don’t share your illness.

Please do not workout when you are sick. Not only is it possible to infect others, but it is also very counterproductive.

Teah Folkerts, LMT, is a graduate of Iowa College of Natural Health in Des Moines, Iowa.

She is licensed by the state of Missouri and Iowa, and she is a member of the ABMP Massage Association. Teah continues to further her education through hands on seminars, such as, Secrets of Deep Tissue from Haase Myotherapy Seminars. She is also certified in Prenatal, Labor, Post-Partum and infant massage. Teah brings years of experience to the MAC and customizes each massage session to accommodate the specific needs of her clients. Her massage style blends Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Sport and stretching techniques, resulting in a therapeutic and rejuvenating experience.

Mandy Puett 314-539-4481 Tuesday-Friday, by appointment Mandy has eight years of experience and was trained at the Wholistic Life Center. She is a Missouri licensed massage therapist.

Mandy specializes in Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, sports massage and Craniosacral Therapy. She looks forward to working with members. “I love being able to help people feel better and achieve their health goals,” Mandy said.

Kelly Carr Kelly has been practicing massage for more than 10 and a half years and has been with the MAC for nine years. Her original training was at the Wellness & Massage Training Institute in Chicago. Kelly’s massage incorporates Swedish, deep tissue, sports, reflexology and hot stone.

“Through massage I feel I can help create a balance between mind and body, hopefully enhancing the view of massage as body maintenance, not merely a luxury.”

Jerrad Benton Jerrad has been licensed in massage for eight years. He graduated from St. Louis College of Health Careers in 2002 and has worked at various salons. He attended St. John’s Neuromuscular classes in 2005 to get additional training in neuromuscular massage. Jerrad specializes in Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular trigger point, chair and sports massage.

Mark Freidman Mark has been with the club for more than 15 years and has been a practitioner of massage therapy for over 18 years. He trained originally at the Healing Arts Center in St. Louis and taught for three years at the St. Louis College of Health Careers. He incorporates a combination of Swedish, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, trigger point, sports, Russian and soft tissue release techniques in his massage. “It is a privilege to work with people to help reduce the pain and stress in their lives through massage.”

Robyn Farris Robyn has been with the club since September of 2002 and received her training at Allied Medical College. Her massage is a combination of Swedish, sports, deep tissue, soft tissue release, trigger point therapy and reflexology.

Summer Camp CAMP MAC SUMMER 2012 AT MAC WEST 314-539-4444 Youth Spring Break Sports Camp Dates: March 19-23, March 26-30, April 2-6 Cost: $25 per half day, $50 for full day (full day includes lunch); Members’ guests $35 for half day, $60 for full day (lunch included) Activities include: tennis, squash, racquetball, kickball, dodge ball, flag football, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts, sharks and minnows and more. Camp MAC The sports camp is for kids with many interests and lots of energy! Our sports camp stands out because teaching professionals help the campers learn the proper skills in tennis, racquetball, squash and martial arts. This makes the camp not only a place to have fun but also a place to be able to improve skills in a variety of sports. Other sports that the kids will enjoy are basketball, soccer, volleyball and flag football.

Arts and Crafts are also a part of the summer sports camp. Scheduled free time in our outdoor pool is a popular activity with the participants. Campers are supervised by the counselors as well as certified lifeguards during free pool time.

While many of the activities will be the same, the team sports will be played at different times, and the younger campers can play games geared more to their age group such as sharks and minnows, spud and line tag.

The camp will be split into two main age groups (ages 5-8 and 9-12) The camp meets Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m. for all-day campers only. There is a set lunch menu which changes daily. The camp coordinators are experienced in working with children. They are supported by a fine group of counselors.

Before and after care is available for Camp MAC participants. Care begins at 8 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The cost is $5 per 15 min. per child with a 15 minute grace period. Heather Kea played Division 1 volleyball for University of Tennessee at Martin. As captain for all four years at Tennessee, Heather led her team to two Conference titles. She is an experienced coach, having coached at both the high school and club coaching level. Heather currently competes in both professional sand volleyball and USAV club tournaments.

In 2006, Heather’s club team qualified for Nationals in New Orleans. As a plyometric trainer for PlyoCity, Heather has extensive experience training athletes to be faster and more explosive for all sports.

Mike Donio is the Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach at CBC. He started a lacrosse club at the University of Kentucky. After graduation he taught and coached football at Summit High School in New Jersey and coached lacrosse at the Pingry School. While in New Jersey, he continued to play lacrosse for three years in the summers with the New Jersey Lacrosse Club. He is in his sixth year with the CBC Lacrosse program.

Often called “physical chess,” fencing is a safe and fun activity that hones both the body and the mind. Students will learn basic fencing skills, strategy, footwork and techniques.

Hossam Hassan Formerly coach of the National Egyptian team, Hossam Hassan has 32 years of fencing experience and has trained many internationally ranked athletes, including the Egyptian men’s foil team, who in 2004 qualified to fence at the Olympic Games in Athens. Assistant Coach Philip Janini will help run the classes.

Heidi Mather Heidi Mather joined the MAC in November 2008 after retiring from the pro tour with a top 30 ranking in the world. Heidi has played for the Australian team, was the number one junior in Australia and was a member of the elite Australian Institute of Sport squash Unit.

She came to the MAC after being based in NY and coaching elite level US juniors. She is a certified level one coach and brings a fresh face to the MAC squash program.

Eric Saxton teaches the youth specialty sports camps at MAC West. He attended by Devalls Bluff High School, in Arkansas. There he played football, baseball and basketball, lettering in all three sports. He was the only player to lead the team in rushing yards and tackles in same season. He led the basketball team to two State Runner-Up titles. Eric went on to attend Capital University. He had a tryout with the Cleveland Browns and a brief playing period with the Toronto Argos. Eric has done professional sport camps for over ten years. During that time he has mentally and physically helped athletes reach an extremely high level in their particular sport.

He finds away to make it fun while they learn multiple techniques and fundamentals.

Pool MAC-WEST POOL RULES 2012 The following rules are designed to allow all MAC members to have a safe and enjoyable experience in our beautiful outdoor facility.

Pool Attendance: • The swimming pool is to be used by those members whose membership entitles outdoor use. All others memberships are restricted to their designated use only.

• All members must sign in by the Pro Shop to be admitted into the pool area.

• Members are entitled to bring guests into the pool. In order that we can control large crowds, please limit guest number to no more than four per visit. Guest fees are $12.00 per person.

• Children under fourteen must have a parent or authorized guardian in attendance with them at the pool.

• Any child with floaties, a life jacket, etc. must be “directly supervised” by the parents or authorized guardian. Parents or guardian must directly supervise any small child, regardless of swimming ability. A swimming test will be required for children wishing to swim in water over their heads.

• The swimming pool and deck area can be used during supervised hours only. For guest parties or birthday parties involving more than four guests, please make reservations two weeks in advance. Guest fees are $12.00 per person. If food service is required, please contact restaurant management for reservations. Their phone number is (314) 539-4490.

General Rules: • Showers are required of all persons using the pool.

• Please no running, pushing, pulling, dunking, fighting, wrestling or horseplay of any kind on pool grounds.

• Frisbees, rubber balls, tennis balls or hard balls of any kind are not allowed in the pool. Inflatable beach balls and “Nerf ” softballs are permitted.

• Inner tubes and small rafts are permitted in the shallow end of the pool only under normal conditions. Lifeguard may, however, restrict mattresses, inner tubes or any other large inflatable toys during busy times. These items can make it difficult for lifeguards to see under the water. Plastic or wooden paddles are prohibited at all times.

• Water guns are not allowed in the pool.

• Glass or any other sharp objects are prohibited on pool premises.

• To help prevent potential neck and spinal injuries; diving is not allowed in the shallow end of the pool (less than 5 feet).

• Playing and hanging on the lane lines, steps or ladders is prohibited.

• Baby/wading pool is for children six years old or younger. Children must be supervised in the baby pool at all times.

There is no lifeguard on duty.

• The lap lanes are reserved for individuals 18 or older who wish to swim laps. There is a 30-minute time limit when there are other members waiting to swim laps.

Health Rules: • Children who are not potty trained are required to wear a swim diaper. These can be purchased in the Pro Shop.

• Persons with open sores or infectious or contagious conditions are not allowed in the pool.

• The pool may be closed due to maintenance, health conditions, weather or other purposes deemed necessary by MAC. The pool will be vacated during storms with lightning. All swimmers will be asked to enter the building area. No one will be allowed on the pool deck during this time. We will wait 30 minutes from the last strike of lightning and thereafter the sound of thunder before making a decision to resume swimming activities.

Rules for Diving Board: • Only one person on the diving board at a time.

• Use the ladder to climb the diving board.

• Look before diving or jumping to make sure no one is in the diving area.

• Only one bounce allowed on the diving board.

• Dive or jump straight out from the diving board.

• Swim immediately to the closest ladder or wall (right side) after diving.

Introduction Welcome to MAC’s Swimming and Diving Team! You will be asked to give your time and talent. In turn, the swimming and diving representatives (reps) welcome your questions and suggestions. We hope these pages will give you much of the information you need.

TEAM GOALS: Learning. Our goal for each swimmer and diver is to learn and improve continually. A swimmer’s progress is easily measured by comparing lap times after every race. If the times are faster each week, the swimmer is improving, even though he/she may consistently finish in last place. In diving, progress is more difficult to measure. A diver’s meet performance is scored by judges, who sometimes differ. In general, however, an increase in the total points on a dive indicates improvement. Improvement, for the swimmer or the diver, is not easily achieved. Hard work and attention to instructions are required.

Competition. We believe competition can be a positive learning experience. We encourage individual effort as well as team performance and good sportsmanship.

Fun. The team situation provides fun for the participants as they build friendships and team spirit. There is also an awards banquet at the end of the season.

Exercise. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise. Any swimmer who conscientiously participates in practice is guaranteed to get “in shape.”

Penguin Swim Team SWIM TEAM GUIDELINES Lessons v. Team In general, youngsters who do not have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the freestyle and backstroke would do better to master these skills in lessons before joining the team. Otherwise, they may quickly become discouraged if they lag far behind others in their age group. Even for many team members, refresher lessons are very helpful. These can be set up individually with the coaches.

Practice Times Practice begins the week of Tuesday, May 29 (day after Memorial Day). The first week of practice will be evening practices from 4-6 p.m. (4-4:30 p.m., 6 & Under; 4:30-5 p.m., 7&8; 5-6 p.m., 9 & over) Morning practices begin June 5. Afternoon practices are for swimmers who can’t make AM practices.

Practice Procedures Practices include two basic elements: teaching and repetition drill. A typical practice has a warm-up (usually a slow, relatively long-distance swim), stroke drills (emphasizing some specific lessons) and sprints or distance swimming (to develop speed and endurance).

Parents should be aware that group practice precludes individual attention. The coach will make every effort to point out errors, give tips on improvement and teach the strokes. However, quick reminders are not always enough to change a child’s technique. If your child is having some difficulty with a stroke, feel free to discuss this with the coach. They may share some pointers with you or suggest lessons. Improvement comes with practice; regular attendance is beneficial to the child and the team. Please have your child to practice on time. Repeating instructions several times for the benefit of latecomers wastes coaching time.

Notes on practicing It is important that swimmers practice the techniques they learn all the time, not just during the specific stroke drill Although the coach will remind them, you can reinforce this idea too. This means that the time to practice flip turns is every time the swimmer completes a lap, and the time to practice starts is every time a swimmer goes off the block. The best swimmers also practice on their own time to perfect starts, turns, finishes and stroke techniques.

Swim Team Parent/Coach Contact Most parents drop their children off for practice. You may certainly stay to watch if you wish, but please do not interrupt the workout. If your child misbehaves and the coach misses it, please wait until after practice is over to make your displeasure known. If you wish to discuss something with the coach, please wait until after practice to do so.

What to do if your child will miss a meet ALL VACATIONS MUST BE MARKED IN THE VACATION BOOK. It is the responsibility of the swimmer to do this. If a child is ill the day of the meet, the coach must be notified by noon so that adjustments can be made. If not, the swimmer will not be allowed to swim in the next meet. If a swimmer misses a meet because the coach was not properly informed, then the swimmer will not be allowed to swim in the next meet.

MEET DAY WARM-UPS ARE AT 4:30 P.M. FOR HOME MEETS AND 5 P.M. FOR AWAY MEETS. COMPETITION BEGINS AT 5:30 P.M. AND RUNS UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 10 P.M. Warm-up usually looks chaotic, but it is very important for swimmers to loosen up, adjust to the starting blocks, practice turns on the wall and check backstroke flags and any other markings which may be unfamiliar to them. In a tight race these times can make a difference. During meets all swimmers must remain in the team area. Limiting trips to the snack bar and restroom is advised. If a child misses a race, it is his/her own fault. When it is his/her turn to swim, a swimmer will be directed from the team area to the starting blocks by the official starter. Swimmers must learn to follow the starter’s directions exactly. Once the race is over, swimmers should report to the team area.

Parents All parents are required to work at least three meets, depending on enrollment. This includes time trials, and division dual meets. In addition, you will be required to work the conference meet if your child/children participate. Parent workers must report to the team representative no later than 5 p.m. and work until the end of the meet to receive credit.

Those parents not fulfilling this commitment will be charged $100 the first offense, $150 for the second and $225 for the third offense and also denied participation in the 2013 swim team season. The money will be used to buy new equipment for next year. Parents who sign up for a meet and do not attend or do not find their own sub will not be allowed to have their child swim in the following meet. Parents are asked to let the parent representative know who is subbing for you.

Note that the Gateway Swimming & Diving Conference prohibits any parent worker or parent representative from drinking alcoholic beverages during any meet, including the championship meet (preliminary, finals or a timed final meet). COACHES: Head Coach Lauren Fonseca and Asst. Head Coach Jim Halliburton oversee an excellent staff of young coaches for each age group. Coaches will be introduced at the first practice and are available for questions and discussion after practice.

COACHES Lauren Fonseca Head Swim Coach Fonseca returns for her ninth year of coaching the MAC swim teams. Lauren is a graduate of Villanova University in the elementary education program. She swam for Villa Duchesne for four years and swam for Villanova’s club team. Lauren is currently an elementary school teacher and the assistant coach at Villa for the Varsity Swim team.

Jim Halliburton Assistant Swim Coach Halliburton is the Head Coach at Saint Louis University. He has turned around swim programs at the Rockwood Swim Club, Marquette High School and the Missouri Athletic Club Summer League. His longest tenure was as the head coach of the Rockwood Swim Club where from 1985 to 2002 he took a program with 38 swimmers and turned it into a national champion squad some 500 swimmers strong. Halliburton’s Marquette team won three state championships in his last four seasons. In just two seasons with the Missouri Athletic Club Summer League team, Halliburton took a team that had not won a meet in 1999 to a conference championship in 2001.

He was named U.S. National Team Coach three times and the Region 8 Coach of the Year six times. Halliburton was recently inducted into the MAC Sports Hall of Fame.

Dive Team DIVING TEAM GUIDELINES

Practices The MAC sponsors a COMPETITIVE dive team. The experience of the diver is not important. Novice divers are welcome and encouraged to join the team! Practices are held in the mornings and some afternoons (See Below). It is expected that all divers attend daily practice, and participate in a minimum of THREE dual meets AND conference. Private diving lessons are available for those who are unable or do not wish to participate in the meets.

Practice procedure In diving, progress is less easily measured. A diver’s meet performance is scored by judges, who sometimes differ. In general, however, an increase in the total points on a dive indicates improvement. Improvement, for the swimmer or the diver, is not easily achieved. Hard work and attention to instructions are required.

Parents should be aware that group practice precludes individual attention. The coach will make every effort to keep practice groups small, point out errors, give tips on improvement and teach new dives. However, quick reminders are not always enough to change a child’s technique. If your child is having some difficulty with a dive, feel free to discuss this with the coach.

She/he may share some pointers with you or suggest lessons. Improvement comes with practice; regular attendance is beneficial to the child and the team. Please make every effort to have your child to practice on time. Repeating instructions several times for the benefit of the latecomers wastes coaching time.

Parent/coach contact Most parents drop their children off for practice. You may certainly stay to watch if you wish, but please do not interrupt the workout. If your child misbehaves and the coach misses it, please wait until after practice is over to make your displeasure known. If you wish to discuss something with the coach, please wait until after practice to do so.

Dual Meets The Gateway Conference groups the following ages in dual diving competition: 8 and under, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, 15/17.

Three boys and three girls compete separately by age group with the girls competing first. The five dive categories are: front, back, reverse, inward and twist. Divers perform the following dives: 8 & under: 9/10,11/12,13/14: 18 & under:

front (101) plus one optional dive front (101) plus two optional dives — all three dives must be from at least two different categories front (101) plus three optional dives — all four dives must be from at least three categories

THE DIVING COMPETITION BEGINS ON SATURDAYS. THERE IS A 30-MINUTE PRACTICE PERIOD FOR EACH TEAM BEFORE THE COMPETITION BEGINS. During this time the coach will finalize each diver’s score sheet indicating the dives chosen, position (layout, tuck, pike) and degree of difficulty.

What to do if your child will miss a meet ALL VACATIONS MUST BE MARKED IN THE VACATION BOOK. It is the responsibility of the diver to do this. If a child is ill the day of the meet, the coach must be notified by noon so that adjustments can be made. Remember, all dive team members are expected to participate in a minimum of three meets and conference.

Dive Team

Parents All parents are required to work at least two meets depending on enrollment. This includes time trials, novice meets and technique meets. You will be required to work a conference meet if your child/children participate. This will be recorded and posted in order to show our appreciation for your help. If you have a swimmer/diver, a diving meet will meet your obligation.

IMPORTANT RULE FOR SWIM & DIVE SEASON 2012 Those parents not fulfilling a two meet commitment (conference if applicable) will be charged $100. The money will be used to buy new equipment for next year. If a parent signs up for a meet and does not attend or does not find his/her own sub, the child will not be allowed to participate in the following meet. You are asked to notify the parent representative as to who is going to be replacing you if you decide to get a sub. Note that the Gateway Swimming & Diving Conference prohibits any meet worker or parent representative from drinking alcoholic beverages during any meeting including the Championship meet (prelims, finals, or a timed final meet) Such actions by any parent worker will force the team to automatically forfeit the meet. Our tennis teaching professionals are both knowledgeable and energetic. With each of their own teaching styles and personalities, it is easy to learn something new from them all.

Kim Steinmetz, Tennis Director, 539-4413 Kim is a native of St. Louis and has been playing tennis since the age of seven. She graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where she helped lead her team to two top ten NCAA finishes. Kim was a 2-time All-American and winner of Trinity’s Senior Athlete of the Year award. After college Kim played on the professional tennis tour and broke into the world rankings at No. 188. Within three years she was ranked in the top 100 and competed against tennis greats like Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Pam Shriver and Billie Jean King. She boasts doubles victories over Steffi Graf and Jo Durie and Hanna Mandlikova and Betty Stove, but her biggest win was in singles over the eighth ranked player in the world, Natasha Zvereva. Kim defeated Natasha in the 1988 U.S. Open. In 1989 Kim was sidelined from competition with a ligament tear in her elbow. After having surgery she began teaching in St. Louis in 1990. Kim is upbeat and energetic when she teaches and is good with spotting technique problems and explaining the correct stroke in an easy to understand way.

Scott Stutz, 539-4411 Scott played Division I tennis at Central Connecticut State University. After college, he competed on the professional level in Satellite Events, taught with Tennis Unlimited and was “Learn to Play” Director at Little Rock Racquet Club. Scott’s motivation, interpersonal skills, good work ethic and competitive background makes him an asset to the club. Scott is a USPTA certified pro. He is in charge of the Women’s Interclub teams as well as Men’s league play where he matches members for social tennis here at the MAC. Patrick McNally, 539-4464 Patrick attended Mt. Wachusett College in Massachusetts. During his final year, Patrick was undefeated and his team won the New England Regional Title. With 25 years of experience teaching tennis to players ages 4 to 94, Patrick is good at imparting his knowledge to students of all ages. He loves teaching tennis and believes in keeping up-to-date on all the latest teaching methods. Patrick attends workshops on a regular basis and has been certified by the Professional Tennis Registry since 2001. Patrick is in charge of the Men’s 55 plus Interclub team and works with the 55 and over men’s group on Wednesday afternoons.

Mac McDonald, 539-4469 Mac has been involved in tennis as a player or coach for 34 years. Although he didn’t begin playing tennis until the age of 17, Mac used his drive and superior athletic ability and soon began to thrive on the court.

His accomplishments include, being coached for four years by Nick Bollettieri, playing professionally on the USTA and European Circuits, playing in as a hitting partner for Pam Shriver, Wendy Turnbull, Zina Garrison and others, and being a former #1 St. Louis Open and 35’s Champion. Mac has been certified “Professional 2” by the United States Professional Tennis Association. When he teaches, he believes in emphasizing proper technique and will give his lessons a very good workout.

COURT FEES • Permanent court time is available at a rate of $22 per hour.

• The fee for a random court time is $24 per hour.

• Random court time may be reserved up to one week in advance. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance.

• All players must sign in for their court time at the Pro Shop.

• Junior Rate (18 and under) $12 per hour, court cannot be reserved more than 12 hours in advance. Please request “junior rate” when checking in for your court time.

PRIVATE LESSON FEES • One person: $60/hour • Semi-private lessons: Fee schedule available in the Pro Shop CANCELLATION POLICY • Cancellations for random court time and private lessons must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

• Random court time: If a cancellation is not made 24 hours in advance of the reserved court time, the member will be billed for the court time.

• Private tennis lessons: If a cancellation is not made 24 hours in advance of a lesson, the member will be billed for the lesson.

• Clinics: A minimum $10 cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations from clinics. For other cancellation fees, please see Junior Tennis Cancellation Policy.

GUEST POLICY • All guests must be accompanied by a member when using the tennis courts.

• Members should register their guests at the Pro Shop before they go to their court to play.

• The guest fee is $12 per court where one or more guests are playing.

• Guests are limited to 12 visits per calendar year.

DRESS CODE • Proper tennis attire should be worn.

• Shirts must be worn.

• Jeans, casual pants and cutoffs are not allowed on the tennis courts.

• Tennis shoes with black soles are not allowed on the tennis courts.

• Dirty shoes dropping dirt and mud will not be allowed on the tennis courts.

TENNIS SUPPLIES & SERVICES • Clothing and a wide range of tennis accessories are available in the Pro Shop.

• Racquets may be rented at the Pro Shop, and rental fees may be applied to the future purchase of a racquet.

• Stringing service is available at the Pro Shop.

• The MAC has a ball machine, which may be used on courts 5, 6, 7 or 8. After renting the court, there is no additional charge.

TENNIS ETIQUETTE • Talking and other noise should be kept to a minimum. Please be mindful of this both on the court and on your way to your court.

• When you hit a ball onto a neighboring court where others are playing, you should not run to retrieve the ball. Instead, you should wait until their point is over and then request your ball back.

• If someone else’s ball comes onto your court, it is polite to stop play and retrieve it immediately, but you may also wait until the point in progress is finished.

• Netting is provided between most of the courts but should only be used if players on adjoining courts agree to have it pulled closed.

• Please refrain from any outbursts of temper. Obscenity will not be tolerated.

CELL PHONE POLICY Because we understand that cell phones are an integral part of our lives and no one wants to miss an emergency call, they will be allowed on the tennis courts. However, for the courtesy of others, we do ask you to abide by the following cell phone rules: 1. Turn down the volume of your phone.

2. Answer a ringing phone promptly.

3. Keep length of all calls to a minimum or take longer calls off the court.

Cell phones, when left on and unanswered when ringing, are not welcome on the tennis courts where others are trying to play.

Each class period will focus on one or two new strokes. Classes will begin with instruction and demonstration of the day’s topic(s) by one of our tennis pros. PRIVATE LESSONS Andrew Francis 314-749-5854 Andrew has been coaching and training athletes both as a team and individually for more than nine years. Andrew got his education while playing varsity basketball for Lehigh University. After graduating, he coached at the high school level as well as AAU girl’s and AAU boy’s basketball teams.

Eric Saxton 314-539-4468 Eric Saxton was recruited by Devalls Bluff High School, in Arkansas. There he played football, baseball, and basketball, lettering in all three sports. He was the only player to lead the team in rushing yards and tackles in same season. He led the basketball team to two State Runner-Up titles. Eric went on to attend Capital University, but his college career was cut short when he was given the opportunity to play in the NFL. He endured a brutal tryout with the Cleveland Browns and a brief playing period with the Toronto Argos. * Also available for baseball private lessons.

Heidi Mather, Squash Pro Heidi Mather joined the MAC in November 2008 after retiring from the pro tour with a top 30 ranking in the world. Heidi has played for the Australian team, was the number one junior in Australia and was a member of the elite Australian Institute of Sport squash Unit where she was coached by three world champions.

She came to the MAC after being based in NY and coaching elite level US juniors.

Yago Cornes, Assistant Squash Pro Yago Cornes began playing squash at a young age in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Some of his achievements include winning the U-17 European team championships with Spain, along with several international junior tournaments.

Yago played for the Spain national team, and also represented the men’s national team on seven occasions that include European and World team championships.

In 2005, he was a pro at The Merion Cricket Club in Philadelphia. During his time there, he helped an already successful program grow and worked in the development of many junior players.

Dave Schwent, 314-220-7275 or dschwent@mac-stl.org Racquetball Professional Dave is a St. Louis native. An avid baseball and basketball player in High School and College, he played 2nd base on the 1973 State Champion Baseball team for Hazelwood High School. He is also an accomplished tennis, paddleball, badminton, ping pong, golf and racquetball player. An expert in golf instruction, his first love is racquetball. He started playing racquetball in 1977 and quickly became one of the top players not only in the state but in the country. He was a National Champion in 1994.

He took 2nd at the World Championships in 1997. He also won a doubles title at the Olympic Festival here in St. Louis. His resume includes numerous state and regional titles. Currently ranked in the top 10 in Missouri, his talent and gifts lay in teaching. A consummate instructor, he can illustrate all aspects of the game from the beginner to the top Open players. Dave is a father of four. He loves to teach juniors of all ages and looks forward to growing the racquetball program at the MAC.
