The Cherry Diamond • The Cherry Diamond magazine is mailed to members each month and features upcoming Club events, photos from past events and other vital Club information.

• It is also available online beginning the last Monday of every month.

The Buffet • The Buffet online newsletter is your short-term planning tool.

• The Buffet is delivered to your inbox each Monday and includes upcoming events, dining specials, new fitness classes, gift ideas and more.

The CWC a la Carte • The CWC a la Carte is delivered each Wednesday and includes all information about Clubs Within the Club events and news.

The Website - mac-stl.org • The MAC website is a helpful user-friendly resource to find information about every Club amenity available like fitness class schedules, reciprocal clubs and menus.

• There is a special “Members Central” area where you can check your billing statements, register online, update your Roster information and much more.

Online Registration • You have the convenience to register for many Club-sponsored events online.

Member Guide Book • The Member Guide Book comes out twice a year and updates you on youth activities, fitness schedules, facility hours, athletic programs available and much more.

Twitter- @macstlouis • Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to the question: What are you doing?

• On Twitter, follow the Club @ macstlouis to find out about dining specials, upcoming events and more. By following the Club, you are alerted each time a new “tweet” is sent out.

Facebook- facebook.com/macstl • Facebook is a social networking site used to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos and learn more about the people they meet.

• As a fan of the MAC, you can view photos from past events, find basic Club information and befriend your fellow members. Connect with MAC friends outside of the Clubhouse through Facebook.

Dress Code Cell Phone Policy The Board of Governors and Management welcomes all members and guests to our Club, but there are guidelines to follow while in the Club. A Dress Code is part of the Club’s tradition and commitment to the community. It is an important component in maintaining the MAC’s well-deserved reputation as a premier athletic club.

The Board and Management asks that you acknowledge our commitment to continually serve members and guests at the MAC by adhering to the Dress Code. Members and guests will not have access to the Club’s public rooms if they are improperly dressed. Members and guests may, of course, arrive and depart in traveling clothes. The Dress Code pertains to all members and guests 14 years and older. Please cooperate with MAC staff and members as they support the Dress Code policy.

Cell Phone Policy The use of cellular/mobile telephones is not permitted in any café, bar, or dining room in either Clubhouse or in any other area designated by the Board of Governors or House Committee, provided that a member or a guest may receive a silent cellular call or page and may respond to it in a brief fashion, not exceeding 30 seconds.

Social Life The Missouri Athletic Club is so much more than an “athletic club.” It might be the beautiful facilities or the outstanding programs that draws new members to the Missouri Athletic Club, but it is the friendships that form which keep them at our Club. The MAC offers members and guests entertainment throughout the year with a busy social calendar of events. Whether you are entertaining business associates, joining friends, enjoying a romantic night out or celebrating a holiday with the whole family, the MAC is the destination. Guest Policy MISSOURI ATHLETIC CLUB GUEST POLICY Spouses and their dependent children under age 25 have Club privileges with the permission of the primary member and are not subject to a guest fee. They must be listed as dependents in the Club records. All other family members are considered to be guests.

All non-members are considered to be guests.

Guests must be accompanied by the member and must be registered when entering any of the athletic facilities.

Members are charged an $12 fee per guest per day for athletic facility use.

Guests are limited to a maximum of 12 visits per year for athletic facility use.

Members may bring guests for dining and social activities an unlimited number of times per year without a guest fee charge.

GUIDELINES FOR YOUTH Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian when using Club facilities, unless enrolled in an official program, lesson or Club activity directly supervised by MAC staff.

YOUTH IN BAR AREAS OF THE CLUB After 5:30 p.m., persons under twenty-one (21) years of age may not sit or stand in the immediate area in the Jack Buck Grille, Sportsman’s Club or in the West Clubhouse. The immediate area of the bar includes the bar itself and all tables and booths in the bar areas. Prior to 5:30 p.m., children in the bar area are to remain seated with their parents at all times. Parents are asked to assure that their child’s behavior is kept appropriate in the bar area and all areas of the Club.

TIPPING POLICY Gratuities, tips and gifts to employees are not permitted. Any member who offers or gives a gratuity, tip or gift to any employee will be subject to suspension for a period determined by the House Committee. Holders of family cards and guests who violate this rule, will be subject to loss of privileges of the Club. Any employee who accepts a tip or gratuity will be subject to dismissal.

A full complement of personal services is available: Haircut, style cut, manicure, facial massage, shave, razor cut, shampoo, pedicure, scalp massage and shoe shine.

MAC SHUTTLE BUS - 314-539-4402 The MAC shuttle bus seats 33 passengers and features a cargo compartment in the back, plush interior, a mobile phone, seat belts, head rests, and easy curbside access. The shuttle bus transports members to Busch Stadium for Cardinals games, the Scottrade Center for Blues games and the Chaifetz Arena for Billikens games, the Fox Theater and other membership activities.

Overnight guests sponsored by members can ride the shuttle to corporate training meetings. The Bus may also be rented for private use.

A large selection of athletic wear and equipment for men, women and children.

Court reservations may be phoned in or made in person for squash, racquetball and tennis. Online booking is also available.

Members and guests are asked to check in before going to their assigned court.

Complete schedules and information related to all programs and activities is available at the Pro Shop.

A member courtesy phone is available at the Pro Shop desk.

Racquets are available for purchase at a member discount rate.

Racquets may be rented at a charge of $3 per day.

Racquet stringing is available at a charge of $14 with a purchase of a new racquet.

Restring charges range from $24 to $36, depending on the string selection.

Food and Beverage Jack Buck Grill and Rendezvous Room 314-539-4417 The Jack Buck Grill is a welcoming oasis for members and their guests whether for casual dining or a special celebration. The menu highlights the uniqueness of the Club’s dining experience. Hand cut dry-aged steaks, a variety of fresh seafoods, homemade soups and pastries are just a few of the delectable items you’ll see on the menu.

Two smaller alcoves are available for intimate dinners, birthday parties or rehearsal dinners. Let the MAC be a part of your next special celebration. Call 314-539-4417 for reservations.

The Sportsman’s Club 314-539-4487 If you’re looking to get out of the office for a quick, but satisfying, lunch or need a place to hold a business lunch or gathering with friends, the Sportsman’s Club at the Downtown Clubhouse is just the place. The Sportsman’s Club is open for lunch and offers a more casual dining atmosphere. You have the choice of dining off of the lunch buffet or ordering from the a la carte menu. Hot soups are prepared daily at the Club along with freshly baked breads, deli selections and a variety of hot items on the buffet. Top off your meal with a decadent homemade dessert prepared by the MAC’s Pastry Chefs. Private dining rooms are available in the Sportsman’s Club and must be reserved in advance.

Cardinals Home Game Dining There is a shuttle that provides transportation to Busch stadium from the Downtown Clubhouse 15 and 35 minutes prior to game time for all home games. Fill up at the Jack Buck Grill, and then go root for the Cardinals!

Sunday Home Day Games The Jack Buck Grill will be open before the game for food and drinks.

Rams Home Game Dining There is a special Rams home game buffet prior to all Rams home games. Fill up at the Club, then head over to the Edward Jones Dome to cheer on the Rams!

The Stan Musial Grill was designed with athletes in mind.

Athletic attire is permissible, so the Grill is a great place to get a bite to eat after working up an appetite while playing a big game or working out. The Stan Musial Grill is also a family-friendly venue. It is a wonderful place to bring the children. There are many popular menu options for the youngsters.

The Dining Room, which is located off the front entrance, offers members and guests an ideal venue to entertain business clients or celebrate a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. You can dine in refined elegance and enjoy a premier dining experience. Business casual attire is required. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. This area features two private dining alcoves that seat up to 12 people.

The Missouri Athletic Club maintains a highly experienced and qualified catering staff that can assist you in planning every detail of your event from grand wedding receptions to sumptuous banquets, fundraisers, small gatherings and business meetings.

Fitness FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS 20/20/20- This is a 60-minute class that is broken down into basic step moves for 20 min. of cardio; weight lifting and resistance for 20 min; and floor work for abs and toning for 20 min.

30 Minute ABC- This ½ hour class will give you the results you are looking for!!! Come trim your waistline, while tightening your buns and strengthening your back.

30 Minute Abs- The ultimate half-hour gut-buster. This class targets your tummy, trims your waistline and will strengthen your back.

30 Min Strong- This express class will work both upper and lower body muscles utilizing a variety of free weights and resistance training.

Abs & Buns- Non-impact way to define your abs, lower back, hip and glutes. Bands and balls used to strengthen, tone and define! Floor work required.

Back To Basics “ B2B”- A physical conditioning program that combines strength and cardiovascular exercises to achieve total body training. Participants will be challenged with calisthenics, circuit, resistance and agility training, core strength and cardio endurance. “B2B” offers an exercise program that reduces weight, inches and allows people to see quick results. Boot Camp- Get your day started with this fast-paced, action-packed, high-energy class that combines sports drills with resistance training. Build strength, agility and cardiovascular fitness while conditioning yourself to reach your ultimate potential. It’s like a double shot of espresso!

Bosu Classes- Bosu means “both sides up.” Bosu Ball is half a resist-a-ball and a step combined into one exciting new piece of exercise equipment. As you focus on balance, strength and flexibility, you will have a fun and challenging total-body workout.

Circuit Step and Step with Weights- Combination of step movements using hand weights and tension bands.

Combo-Bosu/Muscle Conditioning- This total body workout will include high intensity, low impact moves on and off of the Bosu Ball. This class will also include a muscle sculpting component, abs and stretching.

Dynamic Core- Strengthen your core with this non-impact class that works your abs, lower back, hips and glutes.

Bands and balls are used to strengthen, tone and define.

Express Workout- Express Workout will combine cardio, core, upper and lower free weight exercises along with stretching for a great total body workout in just 30 minutes.

Open to all fitness levels and age groups. Don’t let time be a factor in preventing you from working out.

Fitball- This class is a one-hour, low-impact, calorie burning exercise that strengthens and tones the core muscles while simultaneously working the other major muscle groups.

The resistance ball is used throughout the workout in conjunction with weights, medicine ball and other props.

Forever Fit- This 45-minute class is designed for the older adults, which combines nutrition/wellness information with low impact aerobics, stretching and toning. Participants can exercise at their own pace and there are chairs available for anyone who need to sit for some of the activities.

Judo- Judo gives you an excellent moderate physical activity, which improves and maintains muscle tone and stimulates mental activity.

Kettle Bells- Kettle Bells are a no-nonsense, to-the-point 30-minute class. Designed for those men and women who want real results but don’t have the usual hour or more to train. A great strength training class.

Mat Pilates- For a strong core and strong limbs, try this exclusive floor workout. The Mat will work your powerhouse, back, legs and arms by using exercises that will help lengthen your muscles as they strengthen. Mat Pilates is an excellent workout for both men and women alike! It will improve your core strength, flexibility, co-ordination and muscle control.

Mix it Up- Featuring interval style training through a combination of cardio and strength training moves. This class will use a variety of equipment, from steps and bands to weights and Bosu Balls, in order to provide a total body workout. This is an energizing class that promises you results.

Muscle Conditioning- This class will work both upper and lower body muscles utilizing a variety of free weights and resistance training. From bands to balls to bars, this class will have you showing your stuff!

Muscle Up- A results-driven class using variable weight barbell sets, dumbbells, benches and stability balls. Simple, controlled movements set to upbeat music focus on specific muscle groups.

Fitness Performance Training- Performance training is geared towards working each muscle group to make everyday life activities easier. The class includes a variety of circuit workouts that will improve balance, flexibility, endurance, strength and give you energy that will help your performance throughout the day. The right way to do cardio is to keep it short and intense we will burn the fat without losing muscle.

Pilates- One of the fastest growing forms of exercise in the world. It is a safe, sensible system that improves core strength, flexibility and agility. The exercises strengthen and tone the entire body and develop toned muscles w/o creating excess bulk.

Pi-Yo Roller- Utilizes a foam roller to combine movements from yoga to improve flexibility and balance. Movements from Pilates to increase core strength. And from myofascial release therapy targeting trigger points to soothe and release tight muscles.

Power Yoga- A fluid form of yoga that links each breath with a physical posture. This athletic and challenging practice incorporates core strength with flexibility, agility and endurance. Concentration is enhanced through body awareness and open focus. Postures will range from beginning- advanced so each person can determine their ability/ limit. This 90 minute class includes a 15 minute relaxation allowing ease and integration.

P-U-M-P- Get ready for swimsuit season with Pump Up your Muscle Power. This 45-minute endurance strength training program is all about light resistance with increased repetitions. The use of balls, bands and bars will provide you with a total body workout that will show you results.

Spinning- An energizing indoor cycling experience for all levels created by World-Class Endurance Cyclist Johnny G. Bring your energy, imagination, lots of water, and join us for this invigorating ride!

Sweat and Sculpt- Will use a variety of equipment to perform calorie burning moves. Participants of any fitness level are encouraged to attend. Incorporates both cardiovascular and strength exercises.

Total Body- This class will challenge you with a mix of high intensity cardio kickboxing, high energy step and resistance training. Total Body is suitable for all fitness levels.

TRX- This class utilizes the TRX suspension trainer. You will use your own body weight to create a system that builds strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability. The TRX training system can be used by professional athletes to everyday people just looking for an edge in their training regimen.

Water Aerobics- This class highlights aerobic conditioning and muscle toning through low impact exercises performed with hand paddles, foam noodles and bands in shallow water.

Work It, Stretch It! Love It! (90 minutes) - Get your day started with this fast-paced, action-packed, high-energy class that combines sports drills with resistance training.

Build strength, agility and cardiovascular fitness while conditioning yourself to reach your ultimate potential. This indoor/outdoor class includes medicine balls, bands, bosu, hills and mat.

Yoga- Rejuvenate, free yourself and come to life as you take an incredible mind and body journey to peacefulness and relaxation. Yoga assists to increase flexibility and strengthen you both mentally and physically.

Zumba- Fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a dynamic workout system designed to be fun and easy. As you dance, you will target your core muscles. In 1-hour you can burn anywhere from 600 to 1,000 calories depending on your fitness level. Zumba is meant for all ages and skill levels.

Step- Cardiovascular workout adapted to all skill levels.

Uses non-slip platform with risers to increase heart rate, muscle conditioning and core work.

Stretch and Flex- This class concentrates on stretching specific muscle groups using low resistance bands, etc. to increase your range of motion.

Sweat- Get read for 45 minutes of heart pounding, calorie burning intervals on your choice of cardio equipment. The class will consist of intervals both on and off the equipment.

MAC/PLYOCITY SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAM AT WEST CLUBHOUSE The MAC/PlyoCity Sports Performance Training program is a great way for athletes to take their game to the next level. After training only twice a week, athletes will experience significant increases in vertical jump, foot speed, quickness, agility and explosiveness. Adult and junior athletes competing in any sport requiring explosiveness, speed, core strength or jumping will benefit. The program is a terrific way for youth athletes to prepare for tryouts and competition in the fall and winter.

The MAC is partnering with PlyoCity, the top plyometric trainer in the U.S., to provide its proven training program for members. The PlyoCity Sports Performance Program will combine a comprehensive series of plyometric and core strengthening exercises to increase performance and reduce the risk of sports related injuries. Athletes will work hard, but the workout’s fast pace and group setting make it enjoyable. The program is low impact and only twice per week, leaving plenty of time and energy for other sports activities.

The program uses the same workout used by thousands of athletes across the country, including PlyoCity clients Misty May and Kerri Walsh. May and Walsh won the gold medal in beach volleyball in Athens in 2004 after training with PlyoCity. They also repeated a gold medal win in Beijing in 2008. Misty and Kerri last trained with PlyoCity on July 31, 2008, right before leaving for Beijing. Many area high schools and select sports clubs have trained with 24

PlyoCity with excellent results. PlyoCity guarantees that every athlete will experience significant results, including a measurable increase in vertical jump. Athletes will be tested on the first day of their workout.

Mark Freidman Mark has been with the club for more than 15 years and has been a practitioner of massage therapy for over 18 years. He trained originally at the Healing Arts Center in St. Louis and taught for three years at the St. Louis College of Health Careers. He incorporates a combination of Swedish, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, trigger point, sports, Russian and soft tissue release techniques in his massage. “It is a privilege to work with people to help reduce the pain and stress in their lives through massage.”

Robyn Farris Robyn has been with us for more than seven years and received her training at Allied Medical College. Her massage is a combination of Swedish, sports, myofascial release, deep tissue and trigger point therapy. He had a tryout with the Cleveland Browns and a brief playing period with the Toronto Argos.

Camp MAC The sports camp is for kids with many interests and lots of energy! Our sports camp stands out because teaching professionals help the campers learn the proper skills in tennis, racquetball, squash and martial arts. This makes the camp not only a place to have fun but also a place to be able to improve skills in a variety of sports. Other sports that the kids will enjoy are basketball, soccer, volleyball and flag football.

Arts and Crafts are also a part of the summer sports camp. Scheduled free time in our outdoor pool is a popular activity with the participants. Campers are supervised by the counselors as well as certified lifeguards during free pool time.

While many of the activities will be the same, the team sports will be played at different times, and the younger campers can play games geared more to their age group such as sharks and minnows, spud and line tag.

The camp will be split into two main age groups (ages 5-8 and 9-12). The camp meets Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m. for all-day campers only. There is a set lunch menu which changes daily. The camp coordinators are experienced in working with children. They are supported by a fine group of counselors.

Swim Team MAC PENGUIN SWIM TEAM Penguin Swim Team registration: This year, all interested participants MUST SIGN UP IN PERSON in the spring.

Introduction Welcome to MAC’s Swimming and Diving Team! You will be asked to give your time and talent. In turn, the swimming and diving representatives (reps) welcome your questions and suggestions. We hope these pages will give you much of the information you need.

TEAM GOALS: Learning. Our goal for each swimmer and diver is to learn and improve continually. A swimmer’s progress is easily measured by comparing lap times after every race. If the times are faster each week, the swimmer is improving, even though he/she may consistently finish in last place. In diving, progress is more difficult to measure. A diver’s meet performance is scored by judges, who sometimes differ. In general, however, an increase in the total points on a dive indicates improvement. Improvement, for the swimmer or the diver, is not easily achieved. Hard work and attention to instructions are required.

Competition. We believe competition can be a positive learning experience. We encourage individual effort as well as team performance and good sportsmanship.

Fun. The team situation provides fun for the participants as they build friendships and team spirit. There is also an awards banquet at the end of the season.

Exercise. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise. Any swimmer who conscientiously participates in practice is guaranteed to get “in shape.”

SWIM TEAM GUIDELINES Lessons v. Team In general, youngsters who do not have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the freestyle and backstroke would do better to master these skills in lessons before joining the team. Otherwise, they may quickly become discouraged if they lag far behind others in their age group. Even for many team members, refresher lessons are very helpful. These can be set up individually with the coaches.

Practice Procedures Practices include two basic elements: teaching and repetition drill. A typical practice has a warm-up (usually a slow, relatively long-distance swim), stroke drills (emphasizing some specific lessons) and sprints or distance swimming (to develop speed and endurance).

Parents should be aware that group practice precludes individual attention. The coach will make every effort to point out errors, give tips on improvement and teach the strokes. However, quick reminders are not always enough to change a child’s technique. If your child is having some difficulty with a stroke, feel free to discuss this with the coach. They may share some pointers with you or suggest lessons. Improvement comes with practice; regular attendance is beneficial to the child and the team. Please have your child to practice on time. Repeating instructions several times for the benefit of latecomers wastes coaching time.

Notes on practicing It is important that swimmers practice the techniques they learn all the time, not just during the specific stroke drill Although the coach will remind them, you can reinforce this idea too. This means that the time to practice flip turns is every time the swimmer completes a lap, and the time to practice starts is every time a swimmer goes off the block. The best swimmers also practice on their own time to perfect starts, turns, finishes and stroke techniques.

Swim Team Parents All parents are required to work at least three meets, depending on enrollment. This includes time trials, and division dual meets. In addition, you will be required to work the conference meet if your child/children participate. Parent workers must report to the team representative no later than 5 p.m. and work until the end of the meet to receive credit.

Those parents not fulfilling this commitment will be charged $100 the first offense, $150 for the second and $225 for the third offense and also denied participation in the 2014 swim team season. The money will be used to buy new equipment for next year. Parents who sign up for a meet and do not attend or do not find their own sub will not be allowed to have their child swim in the following meet. Parents are asked to let the parent representative know who is subbing for you.

Note that the Gateway Swimming & Diving Conference prohibits any parent worker or parent representative from drinking alcoholic beverages during any meet, including the championship meet (preliminary, finals or a timed final meet). Such actions by a parent worker will force the team to automatically forfeit the meet.

In the event that a swimmer/diver belongs to two participating clubs in the Gateway Conference, he/she may only swim/ dive for ONE team for the entire season.

COACH: Head Coach Lauren Fonseca oversees an excellent staff of young coaches for each age group. Coaches will be introduced at the first practice and are available for questions and discussion after practice.

PENGUINS SWIM COACH Lauren Fonseca Head Swim Coach Lauren Fonseca has been coaching the MAC swim teams for ten years. Lauren is a graduate of Villanova University in the elementary education program. She swam for Villa Duchesne for four years and swam for Villanova’s club team. Lauren is currently an elementary school teacher and the assistant coach at Villa for the Varsity Swim team.

Dive Team DIVING TEAM GUIDELINES

Practices The MAC sponsors a COMPETITIVE dive team. The experience of the diver is not important. Novice divers are welcome and encouraged to join the team! Practices are held in the mornings and some afternoons. It is expected that all divers attend daily practice, and participate in a minimum of THREE dual meets AND conference. Private diving lessons are available for those who are unable or do not wish to participate in the meets.

Practice procedure In diving, progress is less easily measured. A diver’s meet performance is scored by judges, who sometimes differ. In general, however, an increase in the total points on a dive indicates improvement.

Improvement, for the swimmer or the diver, is not easily achieved. Hard work and attention to instructions are required.

Parents should be aware that group practice precludes individual attention. The coach will make every effort to keep practice groups small, point out errors, give tips on improvement and teach new dives. However, quick reminders are not always enough to change a child’s technique. If your child is having some difficulty with a dive, feel free to discuss this with the coach.

She/he may share some pointers with you or suggest lessons. Improvement comes with practice; regular attendance is beneficial to the child and the team. Please make every effort to have your child to practice on time. Repeating instructions several times for the benefit of the latecomers wastes coaching time.

IMPORTANT RULE FOR SWIM & DIVE SEASON Those parents not fulfilling a two meet commitment (conference if applicable) will be charged $100. The money will be used to buy new equipment for next year. If a parent signs up for a meet and does not attend or does not find his/her own sub, the child will not be allowed to participate in the following meet. You are asked to notify the parent representative as to who is going to be replacing you if you decide to get a sub. Note that the Gateway Swimming & Diving Conference prohibits any meet worker or parent representative from drinking alcoholic beverages during any meeting including the Championship meet (prelims, finals, or a timed final meet) Such actions by any parent worker will force the team to automatically forfeit the meet. In the event that a swimmer/diver belongs to two clubs participating in the Gateway Conference, he/she may only swim/dive for ONE team for the entire season.

Job descriptions are as follows: Bull pen worker - Keep divers quiet, organized and ready to dive Recorder - Records diving scores Slide Rule - Determines divers score Ribbon Writer - Writes ribbons and totals all teams’ scores Hospitality - Serves refreshments Parents All parents are required to work at least two meets depending on enrollment. This includes time trials, novice meets and technique meets. You will be required to work a conference meet if your child/children participate. This will be recorded and posted in order to show our appreciation for your help. If you have a swimmer/diver, a diving meet will meet your obligation.

Meets All parents are required to work at least two meets depending on enrollment. At Conference, all parents must work one age group session. It is not recommended that you sign up to work during your child’s diving time. (You would miss seeing your child’s dive). Meets are held on Saturdays and typically begin around June 1 and end in mid-July.

Our tennis teaching professionals are both knowledgeable and energetic. With each of their own teaching styles and personalities, it is easy to learn something new from them all.

Kim Steinmetz, Tennis Director, 314-539-4413 Kim is a native of St. Louis and has been playing tennis since the age of seven. She graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and as a 2-time All American, she helped lead her team to three top ten NCAA finishes. After college Kim played on the professional tennis tour. Within three years she was ranked in the top 100 in the world Throughout her professional career, Kim competed in 26 Grand Slam tournaments — Wimbeldon (8), U.S. Open (8), French Open (6), Australian Open (4) — and played against tennis greats like Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Pam Shriver and Billie Jean King. She boasts doubles victories over Steffi Graf and Jo Durie and Hanna Mandlikova and Betty Stove, but her biggest win was in singles over the eighth ranked player in the world, Natasha Zvereva, whom she defeated in the 1988 U.S. Open. In 1989, Kim was sidelined from competition with a ligament tear in her elbow. After having surgery, she began teaching in St. Louis in 1990. More recently, Kim has been honored as an inductee into both the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame (2000) and the Missouri Valley Tennis Hall of Fame (2011). Kim is upbeat and energetic when she teaches and is good with spotting technique problems and explaining the correct stroke in an easy to understand way.

Scott Stutz, 314-539-4411 Scott played Division I tennis at Central Connecticut State University. After college, he competed on the professional level in Satellite Events, taught with Tennis Unlimited and was “Learn to Play” Director at Little Rock Racquet Club. Scott’s motivation, interpersonal skills, good work ethic and competitive background makes him an asset to the club. Scott is a USPTA certified pro. He is in charge of the Women’s Interclub teams as well one adult tennis match-maker where he matches members for social tennis here at the MAC. Patrick McNally, 314-539-4464 Patrick attended Mt. Wachusett College in Massachusetts. During his final year, Patrick was undefeated and his team won the New England Regional Title. With 25 years of experience teaching tennis to players ages 4 to 94, Patrick is good at imparting his knowledge to students of all ages. He loves teaching tennis and believes in keeping up-to-date on all the latest teaching methods. Patrick attends workshops on a regular basis and has been certified by the Professional Tennis Registry since 2001. Patrick is in charge of the Men’s 55 plus Interclub team and works with the 55 and over men’s group on Wednesday afternoons.

Mac McDonald, 314-539-4469 Mac has been involved in tennis as a player or coach for 34 years. Although he didn’t begin playing tennis until the age of 17, Mac used his drive and superior athletic ability and soon began to thrive on the court.

His accomplishments include, being coached for four years by Nick Bollettieri, playing professionally on the USTA and European Circuits, playing in as a hitting partner for Pam Shriver, Wendy Turnbull, Zina Garrison and others, and being a former #1 St. Louis Open and 35’s Champion. Mac has been certified “Professional 2” by the United States Professional Tennis Association. When he teaches, he believes in emphasizing proper technique and will give his lessons a very good workout.

Max Shapiro, 314-539-4416

Max Shapiro is a product of St. Louis tennis. He grew up playing at Town & Country and Vetta Concord.

Max was nationally ranked throughout his junior career, reaching a USTA national ranking of 228 in 2005 in the 18 & under division. Max won the Class 1 Missouri State High School Doubles Championship in 2006 after finishing runner-up in 2005. He also played for the University of Colorado-Boulder club team that was 6th in the nation. Max has been teaching tennis in the St. Louis area for over seven years and specializes in working with juniors and developing successful strategies to implement during tournament match play.

Faycal Ibnabdeljalil, 314-539-4444 Faycal was born in Casablanca, Morocco and started playing tennis at age 7. He was ranked one of the top junior players in Morocco, and then played college tennis in California, Texas, and finally in St. Louis, where he received a full scholarship. Faycal also competed on a professional level in Professional Satellite Events in France and Spain. Faycal has been certified by USPTA since 2004. He founded the Tennis Training Academy (TTA), and was a Junior Program Director at Vetta Sports from 2002-10. Faycal believes in proper forms and grips, generating maximum spin, keeping up with modern tennis and new teaching techniques. Some of his juniors have sectional and state rankings on a high school level. Faycal teaches all ages, and possesses great interpersonal skills. He will always make you feel comfortable, while having fun and getting a good workout!

COURT FEES • Permanent court time is available at a rate of $22 per hour.

• The fee for a random court time is $26 per hour.

• Random court time may be reserved up to one week in advance. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance.

• All players must sign in for their court time at the Pro Shop.

• Junior Rate (18 and under) $13 per hour, court cannot be reserved more than 12 hours in advance. Please request “junior rate” when checking in for your court time.

PRIVATE LESSON FEES • Private and semi-private lessons are available. Fee schedule available in the Pro Shop CANCELLATION POLICY • Cancellations for random court time and private lessons must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

• Random court time: If a cancellation is not made 24 hours in advance of the reserved court time, the member will be billed for the court time.

• Private tennis lessons: If a cancellation is not made 24 hours in advance of a lesson, the member will be billed for the lesson.

• Clinics: A minimum $10 cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations from clinics. For other cancellation fees, please see Junior Tennis Cancellation Policy.

GUEST POLICY • All guests must be accompanied by a member when using the tennis courts.

• Members should register their guests at the Pro Shop before they go to their court to play.

• The guest fee is $12 per court where one or more guests are playing.

• Guests are limited to 12 visits per calendar year.

DRESS CODE • Proper tennis attire should be worn.

• Shirts must be worn.

• Jeans, casual pants and cutoffs are not allowed on the tennis courts.

• Tennis shoes with black soles are not allowed on the tennis courts.

• Dirty shoes dropping dirt and mud will not be allowed on the tennis courts.

TENNIS SUPPLIES & SERVICES • Clothing and a wide range of tennis accessories are available in the Pro Shop.

• Racquets may be rented at the Pro Shop, and rental fees may be applied to the future purchase of a racquet.

• Stringing service is available at the Pro Shop.

• The MAC has a ball machine, which may be used on courts 5, 6, 7 or 8. After renting the court, there is no additional charge.

TENNIS ETIQUETTE • Talking and other noise should be kept to a minimum. Please be mindful of this both on the court and on your way to your court.

• When you hit a ball onto a neighboring court where others are playing, you should not run to retrieve the ball. Instead, you should wait until their point is over and then request your ball back.

• If someone else’s ball comes onto your court, it is polite to stop play and retrieve it immediately, but you may also wait until the point in progress is finished.

• Netting is provided between most of the courts but should only be used if players on adjoining courts agree to have it pulled closed.

• Please refrain from any outbursts of temper. Obscenity will not be tolerated.

CELL PHONE POLICY Because we understand that cell phones are an integral part of our lives and no one wants to miss an emergency call, they will be allowed on the tennis courts. However, for the courtesy of others, we do ask you to abide by the following cell phone rules: 1. Turn down the volume of your phone.

2. Answer a ringing phone promptly.

3. Keep length of all calls to a minimum or take longer calls off the court.

Cell phones, when left on and unanswered when ringing, are not welcome on the tennis courts where others are trying to play.

Ladies interclub is available for participants at all levels, and matches are played on most Fridays. TOTS TENNIS (Ages 5-7) These tennis classes are geared to give young kids an enthusiasm for the game as well as to develop their tennis skills! With the energy, knowledge and patience of our experienced tennis professionals, your child is certain to have fun while learning how to play. We are committed to being good coaches, imparting knowledge, and improving each child’s physical skills and tennis ability.

Besides these tennis objectives, one of our main goals is to let tennis improve your child’s self-esteem. To achieve this, we ascribe to the following coach/student formula: MUTUAL RESPECT + MUTUAL EFFORT = SUCCESS & SELF-ESTEEM Tots Class Times: Mondays, 4-5 p.m., Thursdays, 4-5 p.m., Fridays, 4-5 p.m. & 5-6 p.m., Saturdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

FUTURE STARS (Ages 8-11) QUALITY COACHING + QUALITY EFFORT + QUALITY PRACTICE = CONFIDENCE & QUALITY PLAY We have classes available for Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced players in this age group. During this age period, kids are likely to have dramatic elevations in their tennis game. Having them learn the proper techniques, advancing those techniques based on their level of play, as well as equipping them with tactical knowledge, will improve their tennis and increase their interest. Our goal is to take each student and build upon their tennis abilities in order to advance them to the next echelon of their game. The Beginner/ Intermediate and Advanced classes will vary, but all of this age group will learn how to develop their shots, learn how to hit balls in varying situations, work on core stability and gain a better understanding of tactics. And, when they are ready, they will be introduced to competitive play outside of the Club. With the above “quality” formula in use, we expect the students’ games to expand greatly during this period of their tennis development as they learn more advance techniques, and we believe they, and their parents, will be pleased!

MIDDLE SCHOOL JUNIOR STARS (Ages 11-14) TENNIS = A GAME FOR A LIFETIME During this age period, kids will usually play tennis because they want to be more competitive, and/or, they just like the game!

Whichever the reason, THESE ARE THE BEST YEARS TO PLAY TENNIS! These are the most formative years for tennis players, and what a child learns now will stick with them later in life, even if they set aside their racquet for awhile. There is a reason tennis is called the “Game for a Lifetime!”

We have classes available for both Intermediate/Beginner and Advanced players in this middle school age group. Our Intermediate/Beginner Classes will be made up those who enjoy the game, and players moving toward the Advanced class. The emphasis in these classes will be the same as those for the Future Stars Classes. However, the skills and strategies will be more advanced and the students will be asked to involve themselves in problem solving and decision making. Competitive games will be more match-pointoriented. All students will be encouraged to tryout for their school teams and to play in novice tournaments. Our Advanced Classes will also include more advanced tactical, technical, and mental skills such as developing offensive and defensive game styles, using different spins, and improving concentration.

Junior Star Class Times: Tuesdays, 4-5:30 p.m., Wednesdays, 4:30-6 p.m., includes Saturdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

PERFORMANCE TENNIS (For high school and college players and high performance competitors) These classes will be divided into two levels similar to the way in which college teams are divided into Varsity and JV. The purpose of two levels is to guarantee the best-matched competition for all players enrolled in the class. Join these classes to prepare yourself for tournament play as well as high school or college tennis. We are prepared to get you in shape, and help you become match tough and the best you can be! Heidi Mather Heidi Mather joined the MAC in November 2008 after retiring from the pro tour with a top 30 ranking in the world. Heidi has played for the Australian team, was the number one junior in Australia and was a member of the elite Australian Institute of Sport squash Unit where she was coached by three world champions.

She came to the MAC after being based in N.Y. and coaching elite level US juniors.

Yago Cornes Yago Cornes began playing squash at a young age in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Yago played for the Spain national team, and also represented the men’s national team in European and World team championships. In 2005, he moved from Spain to Philadelphia, where he was a pro at the Merion Cricket Club. During his time there, he helped an already successful program grow and worked in the development of many junior players.

An avid baseball and basketball player in High School and College, he played 2nd base on the State Champion Baseball team for Hazelwood High School. He is also an accomplished tennis, paddleball, badminton, ping pong, golf and racquetball player. An expert in golf instruction, his first love is racquetball. He quickly became one of the top players not only in the state but in the country. He is a National Champion, taking second place at the World Championships.

He also won a doubles title at the Olympic Festival, here in St. Louis. His resume includes numerous state and regional titles. Noted as one of the top doubles players in Missouri, Dave is still ranked in the top 10 in Missouri. A consummate instructor, he can illustrate all aspects of the game from the beginner to the top Open players. Dave is a father of four. He loves to teach juniors of all ages and looks forward to growing the racquetball program at the MAC. League games are officiated by high school and collegiate referees, and house rules guarantee that every player recieves equal playing time. The following is a list of programs we have to offer. Andrew got his education while playing varsity basketball for Lehigh University. After graduating, he coached at the high school level as well as AAU girl’s and AAU boy’s basketball teams.

Eric Saxton 314-539-4468 Eric Saxton was recruited by Devalls Bluff High School, in Arkansas. There he played football, baseball, and basketball, lettering in all three sports. He was the only player to lead the team in rushing yards and tackles in same season. He led the basketball team to two State Runner-Up titles. Eric went on to attend Capital University, but his college career was cut short when he was given the opportunity to play in the NFL. He endured a brutal tryout with the Cleveland Browns and a brief playing period with the Toronto Argos. * Also available for baseball private lessons.
