Ministry Objectives 1. My life’s goals revolve around seeing the gospel go among the least reached people in America and unreached people groups around the world. 2. Led our church to be a HUB church for the North Africa Middle East region of the International Mission Board (IMB). A HUB church is one that acts as an access point to assist other churches desiring to work in the region. A HUB church also acts as a resource for that region to accomplish tasks. served as a trustee of the IMB – International mission board. Chairing the Mobilization Committee and the N.A.M.E. Affinity committee. Served as a member of the search committee that brought Dr. Chitwood to the IMB as it’s current president. worked in conjunction with the Northern Africa Middle East Leadership Team to mobilize and train churches to become long range partners in that region among the UPG’s of the N.A.M.E. affinity. I worked on the leadership team of the Northern Africa region to develop two national conferences for the International Mission Board titled “Summits”. The success of our first and second summits led the IMB to initiate these gatherings for all Regions. Led our church to adopt the Chadian Arab people group of Chad, Africa which was the basis of the missions training booklet I co-authored titled “Holding the Ropes” published by the IMB. Click here to see the booklet. Led our church to establish new international mission partnerships in Syria, Bahrain, Morocco, Jordan, Iraq, Brazil & Senegal, and in America among the Navajo peoples. I was Past coach for the People Link program developed by Al Gilbert with the International Mission Board. Developed a new partnership with a team working to reach Muslims in Toronto. This team has moved into an area where over 30,000 Muslims mainly from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Written several articles for IMB.org Authored and designed booklets, articles, and manuals to train and equip Churches to be more effective mission leaders in their community and world. National / Local Profile •
Worked in conjunction with other staff in the development of a worship service within the church called the Genesis service. This was a simulcast service with a goal of reaching a more non-traditional group of people. Facilitated the continuation and growth of a ministry outreach called Mission Daystar. This ministry provided house hold goods to those in need while sharing the gospel. Led the facilitation of a new ministry to our church body called My Father’s House. This ministry provided home repairs for those who cannot do the work themselves, or those who do have the money to hire the work done. Worked with a few church plants to assist their growth, development, and finances. Led our church to develop a partnership with, and missions outreach to the Navajo Indians of New Mexico. Facilitated the development of a church based disaster relief team. Developed a church based mission center that not only provides our church with information but also develops mission resources for use by those outside our church. Started the Hampton Roads Missions Network (HRMN). This was a network of mission leaders in our area seeking to learn more about international missions and work together in sharing resources and promoting missions among churches. Served as the Story Coordinator for our state convention, the SBCV.

2008 -2009 Went through a personal mentoring process with Dr. Jim Slack of the IMB. Dr. Slack was a world known missions researcher, strategist, and trainer. Our training time centered around evaluating cultures and sub cultures with the idea of reaching those cultures with the gospel. This training applied to both America and foreign contexts. Developed a mobilization CD that was given away free to churches to assist their mission ministry. Developed a missionary training program for high school students. We trained students for a year and then sent them to live in a foreign culture for up to one year. (This program is no longer in operation) Developed and taught several mission classes to help our church grow in mission passion and knowledge. Helped to facilitated the implementation of the Perspectives on the Christian World Movement course.
Ministry Results During 20 + years as Missions Pastor, Liberty has increased the number of mission trips from one trip per year to between 12 & 17 plus trips a year.
(Our strategy goes deep & is long term, making disciples … Vs developing a program with a lot of trips aimed at the church members)
Liberty has transitioned from a church that previously only funded missions to one that is personally engaged with the field. Liberty has become a mobilizing church in that we seek to help other churches become mobilized to go to the nations. We are strategically engaged in America & the 10/40 window focusing on the least reached. Liberty has become an influencing missions church by developing mission resources that are being used by other churches. We engage in mentoring other churches to help them develop effective mission strategies & programs. We have raised up lay leaders at Liberty that in turn have been able to train other churches. Liberty has become a church where people are engaged in missions year round instead of simply engaging in one time projects or trips. During this time Liberty’s missions giving has been increasing along with our giving to budget and other local

I was a Perspectives course instructor focusing on Mobilization. I have developed a training seminar for churches to teach them how to work with missionaries in forming an effective long term partnership. Developed a training session on the Mission Centric Church that was presented at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Dr. Ashford’s missions’ class over a 2 day period. Developed and led national mission’s advocacy conferences for unreached people groups that drew churches from across denominational and Para church borders. Have coached and mentored churches in how to move forward in their mission efforts .
