2023 REPORT

A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

As we reflect on 2022, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for what has been accomplished through your faithful support of Mission ONE!

We saw first-hand the impact of the gospel in communities around the world as we met with our local partners and witnessed the incredible ways they are serving those in greatest need. We engaged with unreached people groups as they found acceptance and hope in the love of God. We took steps forward in the projects our partners are faithfully leading to transform their communities and restore honor to all people.

As we engage with our indigenous partners, we are constantly reminded of the power found in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This truth remains the foundation of our vision and the motivation behind our work.

With the impact of the gospel as our focus, we are honored to walk alongside our partners as communities are being transformed for the glory of God.

Because of donors like you, people around the world are experiencing the redemptive work of God in their lives, families, and communities. Hope is being restored and generations will forever be changed because of it. Your impact is deeply felt and clearly seen as we continue in this ministry.

Thank you for your generosity which is making all of this possible. Without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Join us as we celebrate this life-changing impact!

We partner with the Global Church to transform communities to look more like the Kingdom of God and reach unreached people groups through the expression of the local church.

WE LISTEN tothoseinneed

We partner with local indigenous leaders and missional organizations around the world as they listen to the communities they are already serving and identify their greatest needs.

WE RESPOND bysustaininglocalcommunities

WE DEVELOP culturallyrelevant, theologicalresources & WE ARE GLOBAL LOCAL

We assist in planning and promoting locally-sustained projects and initiatives that aim to transform communities from the inside out. Whether it be through a small business, medical clinic, school, immediate relief, or local church plant, our partners are empowering not only this generation, but also those to come.

We create curriculum and train leaders on how to build healthy missional relationships and restore honor to all peoples by helping them understand the gospel through their own cultural lenses.

BAKERY PROJECT SOUTH SUDAN Yourimpactin

Due to the vast amount of conflict and war, the people of South Sudan have faced instability and oppression for many years. The volatile political and economic state of the nation has also led to a devastating lack of opportunities and resources. The friction that is still present today makes it nearly impossible for individuals and families to move forward in their lives. People are without education, jobs, and hope. These circumstances have led to cycles of violence and poverty.

Along with our local indigenous partner, we have responded to the needs of this community and started a bakery which is providing resources and support. The bakery is helping to create job opportunities and in turn, is renewing hope where it was once lost. There are currently 14 women who have gone through training and are now employed by this project.

Jospine Abalo Peter is one of the women currently employed at the bakery. Previously, she found herself in an abusive marriage with four young children.

She was providing for her family by selling alcohol, which only contributed to the violence in her own home as her husband was an alcoholic. With the help of her parents, she was able to separate from her husband for the safety of her and her children. It was at this point that our local partner was evangelizing in the community and arrived at her home to share the gospel. Jospine accepted Jesus Christ in that moment and began to attend church regularly along with her children and sister.

When our partner began preparing for the bakery project, he thought of Jospine and asked if she would like to be a part of it. After going through training, she is now an employee of the bakery and is earning a dignified wage which is able to provide for her family and her children’s school fees.

This project is not only providing vital resources and opportunities for those in the community, but it is also reclaiming truth as it reminds women of their God-given value and identities as image-bearers. In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, lives are being transformed, and healthy, sustainable systems are being formed. Most importantly, people are coming to know the name of Jesus Christ.

ALL-GIRLS SCHOOL

In the remote district of Pokot, Kenya, girls are often excluded from school. Instead, many families choose to give their young daughters in marriage in exchange for a dowry due to their financial desperation. These girls are forced into abandoning their childhoods, ambitions, and safety as they become mothers and caring for their young children is made a priority.

An all-girls school in Pokot is paving a new path—one in which girls are given the opportunity to create lives that fully express their worth, value, and God-given potential. This school is a joint initiative between the community, government, and church which is encouraging a positive societal shift for these students and their families. The curriculum not only includes training in basic subjects, but also emphasizes spiritual care along with education on topics such as forced marriage, early pregnancies, and the effects of joblessness in the community.

KENYA Yourimpactin

The Ephesians 2 Gospel Project was born out of this realization:

Ephesians 2:11–22, a text about the gospel of peace through cross-cultural unity in Christ, is widely ignored in our teaching and preaching of the gospel.

Here are the key verses:

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. And he came and preached [the gospel of] peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

–Ephesians 2:13–17 ESV

In our Western Christian traditions, the gospel is often viewed through an individualistic lens—it’s all about our personal, vertical reconciliation with God. This text in Ephesians 2 emphasizes more about corporate, horizontal reconciliation through the cross. It’s “both-and.”

Divisions in the church can be healed through the cross of Christ. By embracing this “both-and gospel,” we can know more of the healing, reconciling beauty of Christ’s body, locally and globally.

I enjoy giving to Mission ONE because it feels good to partner with Werner and his commitment to bringing truth and education to leaders who impact the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. [Mission ONE's] cutting-edge material on the dynamics of honor and shame is much needed and timely in today's global climate of division, war, and violence.

Having observed and participated in Christian missions for a long time, I have recognized that when we lend reasonable forms of support to believers in other cultures, they are best able to communicate the love of Jesus to their own people. This is what Mission ONE does. As a former Board member of Mission ONE, I have seen the success of this approach again and again.

1,102 CHURCHES PLANTED

That's an average of three new worshiping communities planted every day!

More than 1,000 of those new church plants are in the form of house churches in India where we are seeing incredible growth.

7 of those churches are physical buildings that are becoming a central place for gathering in communities.

3,725 PEOPLE FOUND HOPE

in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

14 WOMEN ARE MAKING AN INCOME in South Sudan through a bakery project and providing for their community.

36 GIRLS IN KENYA ATTENDED SCHOOL FOR THE FIRST TIME

Our partner's all-girls school in remote Kenya offers a safe place for girls to learn and grow. The school has received over 40 acres of land donated by the community to build a full high school facility with dorms and a dining hall. In 2022, Mission ONE donors banded together to support building a second classroom as more families agree to send their daughters to school. The Lord is truly transforming how people in Pokot view young girls.

I am so grateful that the Lord connected our church with Mission ONE almost 30 years ago. At that time, their vision for working with and empowering national workers was not a common approach in the mission world With the pandemic and the closing of countries to Western workers, it is becoming even more apparent that God is using indigenous people around the world to complete the work of the gospel in some of the darkest places. The interactions with our Mission ONE Partners have been some of the deepest and most impactful relationships for our people at Indian Rocks. We certainly have experienced the comfort that the apostle Paul described when the body of Christ is unified and carrying one another’s burdens. May God keep blessing the ministry of Mission ONE as they continue to teach and model the beauty that comes from maintaining healthy and respectful partnerships between brothers and sisters in Christ to the ends of the Earth!
