A BLEND OF TRADITION, C R A F T S M A N S H I P & I N N O VAT I O N Bistefani was established in 1955 as a brainchild of its founder, Mr. Luigi Viale, who wanted to produce Krumiri, the typical biscuits from his hometown of Casale Monferrato.

At first, the company name was Biscottificio Santo Stefano, named after the tower that stands in the heart of the town, but it was later shortened to Bistefani. Mr. Viale’s main intuition was to understand that local recipes, craftsmanship and tradition could have potential even outside the boundaries of his native land.

He built a modern production facility that began to produce and sell the now famous Krumiri.

THE HISTORY

A R E A L FA I R Y- TA L E The story began in the second half of 1800 in Casale Monferrato, in the ancient “Caffè Concordia”, where people used to enjoy a very popular liqueur called Krumiro.

Perhaps inspired by the exquisite taste and unusual flavour of that drink, a confectioner decided to create a biscuit with a special flavour and an even more special shape, in honour of king Vittorio Emanuele II and his famous “handle bar moustache“!

This is how the famous Krumiro came about. This fairytale became the history of one of the most popular typical pastries from the Piedmont region.
