Walk amongst the frozen tree tops high in the Hakkoda Mountains that some say resemble monsters! Make sure to ask your guide about the famous movie filmed on location there! You will definitely walk away having learned some military and mountaineering history conne�ing your experience to real events from the past. Don’t forget to prepare your own outerwear for the mountain to include snow goggles!

This class is designed to teach soon-to-be parents basic parenting skills and essential financial skills to help budget for their new baby.It is also a great opportunity to get familiarized with your base's resources. Three-Day Transition Workshop

Monday, Dec. 12–Wednesday, Dec. 14 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Required for all military personnel retiring/separating. Members can participate as early as 36 months (after completing Steps 1 & 2 pre-requisites) and no later than 90 days prior to retirement/separation. The workshop consists of one day of training by DOD (Military Occupational Code Crosswalk, Finances and Managing Your Transition), one day of VA Benefits and Services briefings and a one-day Department of Labor Employment workshop. Spouses/ significant others are welcome and encouraged to attend on a space-available basis.

Presented by the Department of Labor for individuals planning on seeking employment immediately after separating from the military. This track assists members with resume writing, interview skills, networking, labor market information and federal employment. Upon completion of this track members will have a targeted resume.

INSURANCE (REGULAR EMPLOYEES)

If you are a regular category employee, you are eligible to enroll in the group life carried by Minnesota Life Insurance Company and/or health insurance plan, AETNA (DoD Health Benefits Program). Your health insurance becomes effe�ive the day you sign the enrollment form, whereas, you must be employed continuously for one month as a regular employee before your life insurance becomes effe�ive. Your family members may be eligible for enrollment in the life and health insurance plans also. You may obtain more information on benefits and costs from the HRO.

RETIREMENT PROGRAM

If you have 12 months of regular Air Force NAF service and are currently a regular employee, you are eligible to enroll in the USAF NAF Retirement Plan. �is program provides for retirement, disability and death benefits. �ese benefits, combined with Social Security, will give you, the retired or disabled employee, or your eligible survivor a measure of financial security. You will be provided more information on the plan upon becoming eligible to participate.

401(K) SAVINGS PLAN

If you are a regular employee you are eligible to participate in the NAF 401(K) Savings Plan. It is a retirement savings plan that allows you to set aside a portion of your salary to the Plan with special tax advantages. You decide the amount of money you want to contribute to the Plan, from 1% to 99% each pay period. �e amount you contribute is dedu�ed from your paycheck on a pretax basis–before taxes are taken out. �e Air Force will make a matching contribution depending upon the percent you contribute, as follows: You can invest your money in any of the 25-investment options, each with a different degree of risk and reward potential. Your investment options will help you design your own personal investment strategy. You will receive quarterly statements so you can keep track of your investments. You won’t owe taxes on your contributions or on any money they earn, until you withdraw the money from the Plan. You will be provided more information on the Plan upon becoming eligible to participate.

FSS SPOTLIGHT

What is your favorite part about working at the Overstreet Memorial Library? My favorite part about working at the library is craft time for children. We host this event monthly and I'm responsible for the event preparation. Each time, I think about making it an easy and fun event for young children. It made me happy when some customers told me that their children were looking forward to this event.

What do you wish the Misawa community knew about your programs? We have some STEAM education produ�s, such as 3D pen and K’NEX. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding students’ inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. We have STEAM programs every month. We welcome all ages to attend these events.

My best memory working at the library was the Summer Reading Program Closing Party this past summer. A lot of children visited our library during this event. �ey made slime, built LEGO creations and participated in a scavenger hunt. It was very busy, but I was happy that they were having a good time. I'm looking forward to seeing even more people next summer.
