WHAT IS DISC GOLF?

Disc golf was designed for players from all walks of life and disc golf courses are often in public parks, open year-round and FREE to play on in all weather. Disc golf follows the rules of traditional golf, where players strive to complete each hole in the least number of strokes possible. However, instead of using a ball and clubs, players throw discs, much like Frisbees® but smaller and designed to fly with more precision for the sport.

The sport truly is loved by many. Try it out for yourself! Check out the 18-hole disc golf course, located near The Lodge. Find more information about the course on the UDisc App.

Northern Japan is teeming with natural sights to explore and we are lucky enough to have access to an abundant wilderness right here on Misawa Air Base. Take a hike on our Nature Trails near The Lodge and look out for the occasional wildlife sighting including foxes and serows.

Come ride at the mountain bike park located near The Lodge and get some fresh air and exercise. Beginners can learn on smooth trails without fear and advanced riders can enjoy the turns, berms, drops and gardens. Find trail maps at 35fss.com/parks/ or scan the QR code to get there fast!

50 MILE SWIM CLUB

The friendly and knowledgeable staff at the Himberg Pool want to help you reach your fitness goals, or just challenge your friends to a race against the calendar. Sign up and track your laps in the pool as you compete in this base-wide, yearlong race. Trophies will be awarded to the first three finishers, and all of our finishers will receive a congratulatory T-shirt. Additional trophies will be awarded to the three competitors who swim the farthest over the course of 2022.

THE FISH BOWL $25 for two hours

The Fish Bowl can accommodate up to 16 people and features a service counter, small refrigerator, microwave, TV, DVD player and picnic tables.

Be ready to take in the view and experience the great outdoors.

Grab your hiking boots and hop onto this awesome adventure with ODR! We are heading into the volcanic mountains of Northern Japan to hike through lush forests and rock-capped peaks. Be sure to stay close to our mountain guide to catch all of the local area knowledge that he loves to share.

When our legs are tired, the plan is to return to the valley of onsens to rest and recuperate in the hot local waters prior to heading back to camp for the night.

Located in Akita Prefecture, with spectacular views in all directions, Mt. Komagatake is an ideal first-time backpacking experience. You’ll hike from a station near the summit and make your way around the volcanic crater to a mountain hut that you will call home for the night. Eat, drink, and be merry; you will almost certainly make new local friends in this cheerful environment.

Join the adventure team from Misawa Outdoor Recreation as we challenge ourselves to overcome this monster of stone and soil. Experience backpacking in true Japanese fashion by overnighting in a primitive mountain hut, viewing the evening stars, cooking what you carry and feeling the new day’s first ray of sunshine kiss your face on the summit of Mt. Iwate.

ON THE WATER COASTAL KAYAKING

NIGHT KAYAK

Experience the wonder of the Japanese coastline like never before and our “devotion to the ocean” with salt water paddling. These tours trace rocky, volcanic coastlines of our favorite spots in Mutsu Bay, the Pacific Ocean or even in the Sea of Japan! For each trip, we will pick the best location based on our knowledge of the weather, wind and waves. While moderately physically challenging, novices can use sit-on-top kayaks and those with more experience can opt for a sea kayak; we can teach you skills in either one!

Includes: Transportation, guide, kayak and all necessary safety equipment • Moderately challenging activity; basic swimming ability recommended.

The fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Night kayaking will start before sunset and finish after sunset in the calmest areas of Lake Towada. Distance isn’t the goal of night kayaking, having an exciting adventure is! See your kayak lights illuminate the lake bed below you thru the spring-fed crystal clear waters of Lake Towada. This will easily be one of your most memorable moments in nature while stationed in Japan. Not to mention you'll get to capture some killer photos.

Dress up and join in the Aomori Nebuta Festival parade as a dancer!

Without a doubt, this is one of the most well-known festivals in Japan.

The festival is held during the first week of August each year and features nightly parades of giant illuminated paper floats depicting traditional Tsugaru art and thousands of chanting dancers and drums.

The full parade takes place for six nights through downtown Aomori City.

Includes transportation, guide and traditional Nebuta costume • Moderately challenging activity; jumping and dancing in summer heat is a strenuous activity.

As we make our way around to these Tokyo sites, we will collaborate with you to hopefully check off some of your bucket list wishes.

POLICIES AND INFORMATION RENTAL CENTER

To check out equipment, you must have a current DoD identification card. Family members must be at least 18 years of age. Persons not assigned to Misawa Air Base must present official TDY, leave orders, or other official documentation showing organization assigned or residence. Local national employees and members of Japan Air Self Defense Forces (JASDF) may check out equipment on a space available basis only and must present a valid base identification card at the time of checkout.

Entertainment items may be reserved up to one month in advance of the date needed. Rental and loan equipment items are available on a first come, first served basis. Items available for rent may be checked out any time during normal operating hours and must be returned no later than the specified time and date on the rental sales receipt. Items returned after this time will incur a late fee. Late fees are equal to the single daily rental rate of the specific item. Weekly rates will not apply to late-returned items. All late fees and charges are payable when the item is returned.

The person who signs the issue contract is liable for any lost, damaged or destroyed items. This person is also responsible for ensuring that the items are turned in by the due date, clean and dry. Cleaning fees for tents will be $15 per tent. Cleaning and repair fees for scuba equipment is outlined in the rental agreement and varies for gear affected and extent of damage. A cleaning fee equal to one-day rental fee will be assessed for all other equipment.

Each customer is responsible for checking each item’s condition before taking the item out of the facility. If any item is unacceptable, ask the Outdoor Recreation Staff to exchange it.

If you don’t know how to use the equipment, ask for assistance and instruction. After the customer signs the issue contract and leaves the facility with the equipment it is their responsibility to ensure it is returned in accordance with this policy.

OUTDOOR RECREATION TRIPS

Signing up for a trip can be accomplished at the Outdoor Recreation Center, Hangar 973, unless otherwise noted. Outdoor Recreation Programs are open to all active duty military members, their families, DoD civilians, retirees, contractors, and JASDF personnel. Enrollment for trips is available for purchaser, their immediate family members, and one guest only. Payment in full is required at time of enrollment. All advertised Outdoor Recreation Programs, to include prices and destinations, are subject to change, postponement or cancellation without prior notification. Weather plays a key role in the location and safety of Outdoor Recreation Programs, drivers and guides may alter itineraries as necessary.

All trip destinations, as well as arrival and return times are subject to change based on weather, road conditions or other circumstances. No refunds, credits, or incentives are given for such conditions, or changes in programs, unless they result in full cancellation. Certain cancellation policies and fees apply. Liability waivers must be turned in at the time of registration. Waivers are available at the Outdoor Recreation Center or you can download a pdf version online at 35fss.com/outdoor-recreation/ and bring it in when you come to sign up.

RECHARGE FORRESILIENCY (R4R ) DISCOUNT ELIGIBILITY

R4R discount prices are for active duty military and their family members assigned to Misawa Air Base. Verification in the form of a military/family member ID must be provided at time of enrollment.

Regular tour pricing applies to guests not eligible for R4R discounts.

Trips purchased at the R4R discount price may not be transferred to non-eligible persons.

R4R discounts apply only to scheduled ODR programs and activities. Custom group and organizational tours are not eligible for this discount.

OUTDOOR RECREATION PROGRAMS

Enrollment Policy:

Each person may enroll themselves, a spouse, and all family members assigned or attached to Misawa Air Base.

In addition to family members, you may enroll one guest.

Eligibility:

Open to all active duty military members and their families, DoD civilians, retirees, and contractors.

Some age limitations may apply to specific programs.

JASDF personnel are eligible to participate (full-program prices apply).

Transfers:

Outdoor Recreation trips are not transferable.

CUSTOM TRIP REQUESTS

Have a group that wants to get out into the wild for an exclusive trip with one of our guides? We accept private booking inquiries a minimum of one month in advance of trip dates for groups of all sizes. Confirmation and payments are to be coordinated no less than two weeks prior to your trip date. Winter trip availabilities fill up even faster so plan further ahead! All weekday trip inquiries are considered on a case by case basis based on guide, equipment and transportation availability. Government funding (R4R) subsidies cannot be applied to custom trip pricing. Group rates are calculated based on the destination, activity, labor costs, group size and complexity of pre-coordination involved.

HIMBERG POOL

All children ages 10 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Children unable to stand in the water must be within arm’s length of an adult at all times.

Children ages 12 and under must pass the PACAF Deep Water Test and possess a current PACAF Deep Water Access Card to use the deep end of the pool.

Children ages 13 and older (and children ages 11 or 12 with a valid PACAF Deep Water Access Card) may remain at the facility unattended.

Physical Training reservations can be made up to 14 days in advance. When not reserved, fitness swim lanes are available on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are for group activities only and not for individual fitness training.

ねぶたまつり！ 全国から約300万人の観光客が訪れる青森の 夏の風物詩であります。今年も参加して、思いっきり汗かきましょう！ ねぶたの起源は、七夕の灯籠流しからでその行事は東北地方の習慣で 「眠り流し」 と言われていました。 「眠り流し」 とは、夏の農作業を妨げる 眠気を追い払うために、 灯籠・笹竹などを海川に流す行事のこと。 それが 「ねむたい」→「ねぷたい」→「ねぶた」 に転化したものと 伝えられています。 このツアーに含まれているもの： 往復の交通、 ガイド、 ハネト衣装のレンタル • ある程度の体力が必要となります。

ディスクゴルフ場 ディスクゴルフとは？

ディスクゴルフとは、 ゴルフのボールの代わりにフライング ディスクを使用し、 バスケット型の専用ゴールに、何投で 投げ入れることができるかを競うスポーツです。 アメリカで 生まれたこのディスクゴルフは、欧米を中心に世界の27ヶ国 でプレイされています。

ディスクゴルフ簡単ルール

1. ディスクゴルフは、 ボールのかわりにディスクを投げ、専用 のゴールに、 何投で入れられるかを全18ホール （または ９ホール） のトータルスコアで競うスポーツです。 2. １投目はティー・ラインの後ろから投げ、 ２投目以降は ディスクが止まった地点にマーカー・ディスクで マークをし、 そこから投げます 3. ディスクは転がしてもすべらせても構いません。 また何枚 かのディスクを用意し、状況に応じて１投ごとにディスクを 使い分けることもできます。

投げる順番

通常４人ずつ１組でラウンドします。 １番ホールの ティー·ショットはじゃんけんで順番を決め、 ２投目以降は 投数に関係なく、 ゴールより遠い人から先に投げます。 ２番ホール以降のティー·ショットは、前のホールでスコアの 良かった人から順に投げます。 もし同スコアの場合はさらに 前のホールにさかのぼり、 スコアの良い人から投げます。

ベースロッジの近くには、 自然豊かな散策路があります。 キツネ、 タヌキそして鹿などの野生動物と遭遇するかもしれません。

たぬきヒルズ＆バイクパーク 無料で利用可能

北海道・道南を旅します。樽前山に登り、 苔の洞門をハイキング、 そして透明度の高い支笏湖へジャ〜〜ンプ！札幌でひと騒ぎ

した後、 積丹ブルーの世界でカヤック！ 江の島海岸で宝石ゲットし （天然のメノウ、 ジャスパー、 オパールなどが拾えます！）、 活火山の恵山へ登山、海岸線にある野湯 （野生の温泉） へダイブ！ 第１次世界大戦前に作られた函館山山頂にある旧日本軍

の砲台跡に向かいます。 ざっとこんな感じです。 ６日間の長〜い旅です。 英語漬けになるにもぴったりです！
