WINLOW WESTHEIMER The Winlow Westheimer district is a redevelopment project located on Westheimer Boulevard in Houston, TX. The project combined a number of pre-World War II masonry buildings in various stages of disrepair and deterioration and transformed it into a pedestrian destination place, indicative of European gathering places, conspicuously absent in Houston. Each building was unique, yet the buildings had to flow as a cohesive unit. One building was built in the 1960’s and housed a fur storage facility and a lamp repair shop, which has now become a restaurant. The building’s facades were renovated by coordinating the existing fragile red clay block with simulated “Houston Brown” brick accents.

LILY RAIN HEIGHTS Located in the heart of Houston Heights’ emerging retail district, this 4,000 square foot project re-imagines mixed-use development at an intimate scale. As one of Texas’s smallest mixed-use apartment buildings, the two-story structure pairs Lily Rain, a women-owned, locally operated boutique clothing and gift shop at street level with a luxury three-bedroom residence above. The design prioritizes walkability, neighborhood engagement, and efficient use of a compact footprint, contributing to the evolving character of the Heights. By blending retail and residential uses in a thoughtfully scaled form, the project demonstrates how small, design-forward interventions can have an outsized impact on vibrant urban corridors.

907 WESTHEIMER 907 Westheimer was designed as a visualization of three volumes adjacent to each other. This allows for the building to have a cohesive design while allowing each of the tenants to be identified independently. The building features exposed structural elements, allowing materials to be expressed in their natural state. Back steel, wood, and glass are the primary exterior materials used, providing a contemporary and industrial aesthetic. A continuous canopy along the building façade ties together the vertical volumes, and gives the building a strong horizontal continuity.

KATZ’S Katz’s Deli is an adaptive reuse of a 1920s structure on lower Westheimer in Montrose, which was in extreme disrepair due to standing vacant for almost two decades. Barry Katz secured the building to renovate the structure into a new two-story restaurant, taking design elements and cues from the original Katz’s Deli in Austin, Texas. The interior was influenced by the eclectic nature of the iconic New York Deli from the mosaic tile floor to the stamped tin ceilings. The stair railing and detailing were inspired by the Pennsylvania Station in New York and the brick pattern around the perimeter emulated the checkered pattern of a yellow checkered cab in New York.

WOODLANDS HILLS In collaboration with landscape architects Clark Condon, The Woodlands Hills Pavilion serves as a sculptural centerpiece within The Woodlands Hills Park. Inspired by the delicate form of a butterfly, the pavilion’s roof gracefully spreads into wing-like structures supported by bronze columns shaped to feel organic and whimsical. A triangular patterned, fall-colored acrylic mosaic embedded in the roof captures sunlight, casting vibrant, transformative patterns on the ground throughout the day like living art. The pavilion’s butterfly body is expressed through a central gutter that channels rainwater into a catch basin via a rain chain. Designed to inspire and delight, the pavilion invites visitors to experience the harmony between art, architecture, and nature.

TIME OF CELEBRATIONS
Simonton-Cable building is a homage to the multiple buildings situated in Downtown Conroe; the building is designed to appear from the exterior as two individual buildings to alleviate the presence of the new building in the surrounding context. The 26,786 Square Foot program was divided into four levels; the Ground level is intended to accommodate retail and hospitality taking advantage of the street frontage; the second to fourth levels are for office use housing; the fourth level includes a roof terrace on top of what from the exterior looks like one of the two buildings.
Styled Real Estate is a mixed-use development for a real estate professional, their associated businesses, including material selections and a pool company. Adjacent to the office building is a mixed use building a shell coffee shop and garage. The buildings are Scandinavian designs with an exposed gabled structure, economically design with the use of metal buildings and thoughtful use of materials. It was important to the client that this building create a sense of community, through engaging outdoor and indoor spaces.
The Time of Celebration Ministries renovation transforms a former auto dealership into a new church home for a growing ministry in northwest Houston. The renovation re-imagines the existing repair shop as a 1500 seat main sanctuary, elevating the industrial volume into a space for worship and gathering. The design prioritizes adaptive reuse, retaining the original lobby and enclosing a former front access gate to create a fellowship hall and community plaza. By reworking familiar structures into meaningful spaces, the project reflects a commitment to stewardship, flexibility, and community connection.
