“When the Prophet (SAW) arrived at Madinah, the Jews were observing the fast on Ashura, and they said, ‘This is the day when Moses became victorious over Pharaoh.’ On that, the Prophet (SAW) said to his companions, ‘You (Muslims) have more right to celebrate Moses’ victory than they have, so observe the fast on this day.’” [Sahih Al-Bukhari #4680]

What Is Muharram? Everything to Know About the Sacred Month

The Islamic Year is based on a fully lunar calendar, meaning that time is counted based on how long it takes for the moon to orbit earth. There are 12 months per Islamic year, with each month beginning with the new moon. It takes the moon about 29.5 days to change from new moon to new moon, and one calendar year is approximately 354 days. (This is why Muslim holiday dates change every year on the Gregorian calendar, because the lunar calendar is shorter than the solar calendar.) The month of Muharram is steeped in both religious and historical significance for Muslims. Not only is it a month decreed by Allah (SWT) as sacred, it is the first month of the Islamic calendar, marking the hijrah (emigration) of the Muslims to Medina and the establishment of the first Islamic state in 622CE.

What is Muharram, and when is it?

The first month on the Islamic calendar is called Muharram. When Prophet Muhammad began preaching monotheism in Makkah, tribal leaders didn’t like it. Early Muslims faced oppression, torture and boycott in their own city for renouncing the mainstream faith. This forced them to migrate out of Makkah. The historic event was chosen as a turning point to calculate the calendar year, and keep track of the events that took place before migration and after migration. Some fourteen centuries ago on the day of Ashura, the grands .. The word Muharram means “that which is made sacred.” It holds great significance in Islam because it is one of the four sacred months. It is particularly significant to the Shia sect of Islam. In 2024, Muharram 1st will take place on July 8th.

How is Muharram celebrated?

Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic year. New year celebrations are not common in the Islamic tradition. Instead, people might use this as a time to internally reflect, set goals or take note of time. Muharram commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Hussein RA, Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, and his companions at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. This battle symbolizes the fight for justice against oppression. Imam Hussein’s refusal to submit to the tyrannical ruler Yazid that ultimately led to his sacrifice. Hazrat Hussein RA, was killed, alongside most of his male relatives and his small retinue, on 10 Muharram 61 AH (10 October 680 CE) in the Battle of Karbala against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph Yazid ibn Mu’awiya (r. 680–683), having been surrounded for

some days and deprived of the drinking water of the nearby Euphrates river.

In the Shia sect, Muharram is a major observance commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. It’s observed with congregational gatherings all throughout the month of Muharram, but particularly from the 7th to the 10th of Muharram. Depending on the part of the world, this also includes street processions and city wide closures observing the mourning of Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala. Individually, Shia families might observe the mourning in ways such as not having joyous occasions as part of Muharram’s mourning period. What is Ashura?

The 10th day of Muharram is called Ashura, and it is of particular importance. It is believed, on this day, God saved Moses and his people from Pharoah by parting the sea. Moses fasted on this day out of gratitude, so it became a tradition in the Islamic faith to also fast on this day. However, once the fasting of Ramadan became obligatory, fasting on Ashura became optional. The day symbolizes God granting relief to those being oppressed. It is also believed that Ashura was the day when Noah’s ark safely came to rest, Jonah was released from the belly of the whale, when Job was cured of his illness and when Adam’s repentance was accepted.

For those fasting on Ashura, The scholars of Islam consider it recommended to fast on the 9th of Muharram along with the 10th of Muharram (‘Ashura). This is due to the Hadith:

When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) fasted on the day of ‘Ashura and told the people to fast, they said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.” The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Next year, if Allah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.” But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) had passed away. (Muslim). The Prophet (PBUH) wanted to fast on the 9th, in order to differ from the People of the Book. Why it’s important?

Muharram is important because it’s a sacred month. There are four sacred months in the Islamic calendar. A sacred month means that

Fasting the Day of ‘Ashura’

shura’ commemorates the day that Allah saved the Children of Israel from Pharaoh. Fasting on Muharram 10, known as the Day of ‘Ashura’, expiates for the sins of the past year. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah in 622 CE, he found that the Jews there fasted on Muharram 10 and asked them the reason for their fasting on this day. They said,” This is a blessed day. On this day Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy (in Egypt) and so Prophet Musa [Moses] fasted on this day giving thanks to Allah.”

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “We are closer to Musa than you are.” He fasted on that day and commanded Muslims to fast on this day. (Al-Bukhari) The following year, Allah commanded the Muslims to fast the month of Ramadan, and the fasting of ‘Ashura’ became optional. It is also reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to fast on the ninth and tenth. Ibn ‘Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah fasted on the day of ‘Ashura’ and ordered the people to fast on it. The people said, “O Messenger of Allah, it is a day that the Jews and Christians honor.” The Prophet said, “When the following year comes, Allah willing, we shall fast on the ninth.”

The death of the Prophet came before the following year. (Muslim and Abu Dawud) For more on ‘Ashura’ and Muharram, please read: The Significance of Fasting the Day of ‘Ashura’ Virtues of the Month of Muharram & Fasting during It Thus, according to scholars, you may choose to fast ‘Ashura’ on three days (ninth, tenth, and eleventh); two days (ninth and tenth); or one day only (the tenth). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Fasting the day of ‘Ashura’ (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year.” (Muslim) But this expiation of minor sins comes only if you avoid major sins. It is a big mistake to rely on fasting a single day to “wipe your slate clean.” If you neglect your daily Prayers or the fast of Ramadan, or if you backbite, lie, commit adultery or other major sins, fasting on ‘Ashura’ alone will not atone for your sins.

The great scholar Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (b. 691 AH/1292 CE) wrote: This misguided person does not know that fasting in Ramadan and praying five times a day are much more important than fasting on the Day of Arafah and the Day of ‘Ashura’, and that they expiate for the sins between one Ramadan and the next, or between one Friday and the next, so long as one avoids major sins. But they cannot expiate for minor sins unless one also avoids major sins; when the two things are put together, they have the strength to expiate for minor sins. Among those deceived people may be one who thinks that his

huge slap in the face” shows he would cost people in Surrey, says Eby

As David Eby announced the next step on the new medical school at SFU Surrey today, he also reminded people of John Rustad’s record of

costing the people of Surrey more. When the BC NDP eliminated Kevin Falcon and John Rustad’s bridge tolls in 2017, it saved families up to $1,500 a year. But Rustad opposed eliminating tolls, calling it “a huge slap in the face.”

Bodies of 3 missing climbers found near Squamish, B.C.

Trio of experienced climbers had set out to scale Atwell Peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park, last seen May 31. RCMP in Squamish, B.C., say three bodies have been recovered from an area where three mountain climbers went missing just over a month ago. The names of the deceased have not been released. The bodies were recovered Monday in the area of Atwell Peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Squamish Search and Rescue worked with the RCMP on the recovery, and the B.C. Coroners Service has now been called in,

according to a statement from the Squamish RCMP. The climbers were supposed to return to the Diamond Head trailhead on May 31, where they had left their vehicle. Unstable conditions and bad weather in the high mountain terrain forced the suspension of search and rescue efforts on June 6.

On June 8, officials said they were switching tactics, opting to review aerial video footage given the “dangerous terrain” and conditions on the ground.

Atwell Peak is 2,655 metres high,

located just south of Mount Garibaldi’s main summit, around 65 kilometres north of Vancouver. It is described as one of the most technical and challenging ascents in B.C.’s Coast Mountains. The search operation in early June deployed helicopter, ground crews, drones and avalanche search dogs. Squamish Search and Rescue manager

B.J. Chute earlier described to CBC News the challenging nature of reaching the peak.

“This is not a casual day hike by any stretch,” said Chute. “It’s a highly

ing. He was the one who sold off the ‘surplus’ land for the second hospital in Surrey. And then John Rustad gave him a standing ovation for that budget speech when he talked about selling off that ‘surplus’ land. That’s their record here in Surrey. And it’s not just in Surrey. They did this across the province to fund tax cuts for the people who are already on top. And if they get elected, they’re going to do it again.”

Gold stolen in Canada’s biggest ever heist may be in India: Police

Details of the heist

The gold, consisting of 6,600 bars, was stolen from Toronto’s Pearson Airport on April 17 last year. The Peel Police Service Board discussed the ongoing investigation during a June 21 meeting, revealing that the gold may never be recovered. Detective Sergeant Mike Mavity of the Peel Regional Police (PRP) stated, “We believe a large portion has

gone overseas to markets that are flush with gold. That would be Dubai, or India, where you can take gold with serial numbers on it and they will still honor it and melt it down…and we believe that happened very shortly after the incident,” according to CBC News.

The investigation PRP had earlier described this theft as the largest gold heist in Canada ever. On April 17, 2023, at 3:56 pm, a flight from Zurich, Switzerland, landed at Pearson International Airport with a cargo containing 6,600 bars of .9999% pure gold, weighing 400 kilograms, and CA$ 2.5 million worth in foreign currency. The cargo was reported missing to the police on

April 18, 2023, at 2:43 am. Suspects and arrests

Two Indo-Canadians working at the warehouse from which the gold was taken were allegedly involved in the heist. They are 54-year-old Parmpal Sidhu from Brampton, who was arrested in May this year, and 31-yearold Simran Preet Panesar, also from Brampton. Panesar, who worked as a manager at the warehouse, gave the police a tour of the facility after the robbery before resigning and is now believed to be abroad. A friend of Sidhu, 36-year-old Archit Grover, who was also wanted in the case, was taken into custody in May after returning to Canada from India.

On April 17 this year, PRP, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives

(ATF), identified and charged or issued warrants for nine individuals with over 19 charges. Among those charged were Sidhu, 40-year-old Amit Jalota from Oakville, 43-yearold Ammad Chaudhary from Georgetown, 37-year-old Ali Raza from Toronto, and 35-year-old Prasath Paramalingam from Brampton. Canada-wide arrest warrants were issued for Panesar, Grover, and 42-year-old Arsalan Chaudhary from Mississauga. Another accused, 25-year-old Durante King-Mclean from Brampton, is in custody in the United States.

This ongoing investigation underscores the complex international dimensions of the heist and the challenges law enforcement faces in recovering the stolen gold.

Swath of southern Interior still under heat warning; over 30 new fires discovered in 24 hours Health officials have responded to dozens of heatrelated calls in recent days, as about 20 heat warnings are still in effect for some parts of British Columbia.

Amid the prolonged heat wave, the number of active wildfires in the province has jumped by more than 30 in the last 24 hours as forecasters warn of a risk for high wind and dry

lightning in the province’s north.

While heat warnings have been lifted across Vancouver Island, the South Coast and the Lower Mainland, they remain in place for the southern Interior, where high temperatures are expected to last into Thursday.

Nearly 40 communities set daily temperature records across B.C. on Tuesday, according to Environment Canada. The temperature hit 40.6 C in Kamloops, shattering the 38.6 C

record set in 2015. Kelowna also set a new high of 39.3 C. Lytton, which is often the hottest place in Canada this time of year, hit 42.5 C. Several cities in the B.C. Interior and Kootenays including Lytton, Nelson, Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon and Cranbrook are expected to break records again Wednesday, with forecasts calling for temperatures between 37 C and 40 C.

Heat wave in BC, let’s talk about safety measures.

As warnings of natural weather changes are being around the world. Somewhere it is raining heavily, the heat is unbearable, extreme cold weather and somewhere there are storms.

These environmental and climatic factors have a significant impact on day-today life. It is happening and for this every government tries to tell people about precautionary measures. Similarly, BC had very pleasant weather in the month of June, which is often hot. But when July started, the weather began to show its effects and the temperature is rising from 30 degree centigrade to 35 degree centigrade and above in Southern areas.

For us South and Central Asians it is very normal but in Canada, the Ultraviolet rays (UV) may reach above the safety level. The second thing is the design of the houses and the use of materials that are made keeping in mind mostly the winter and snow season. Another thing is that the days are very long, and the nights are very short, so the feeling of heat is more. The good thing is that children are currently on vacation from school and when the weather cools down in the evening, they can be taken to different parks. Because even though there is Airconditioning system here in the summer, the feeling of heat can be minimized by going out and enjoying the

weather.

However, in this heat wave, some necessary preventive measures are necessary for us and our families, especially for the elderly, sick and children:

Here are some:

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid caffeinated drinks, as they can cause dehydration.

Cooling Centers:

If your home isn’t properly cooled, consider going to a designated cooling centers in your community where you can avoid the heat.

•limit outdoor activities: If possible, avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day (usually late morning to mid-afternoon). If you must be outside, seek shade and take frequent breaks.

•Wear appropriate clothing: Choose light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing to help your body maintain a normal temperature.

•Watch out for vulnerable people: Watch out for elderly neighbors, young children, and people with chronic diseases, as they are more prone to heatrelated diseases.

•Use fans and air conditioning: Use fans and air conditioning to cool your home, if available. Make sure they are working properly before the heat wave arrives.

•Never leave children or pets in the car: The temperature inside the car can rise

dangerously fast, even with the windows open. Never leave children or pets unattended in the car.

•Recognize the symptoms of heat-related illness: Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are serious conditions that require immediate attention. Symptoms include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, and increased body temperature. If you or someone else is experiencing these symptoms, call 911 immediately for medical help.

•Stay Informed: Stay up to date with weather forecasts and heat warnings issued by local authorities. This will help you plan activities and take proper precautions.

•Modify your routine: If possible, adjust your daily activities to take advantage of cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late evening, for outdoor exercise or work.

By following these precautions, individuals can reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and stay safe during a heat wave. Personal health and well-being must be prioritized during severe weather events like this one, call 911 immediately in case of emergency.

BC Provincial elections and political parties

British Columbia New Democratic Party (BC NDP): David Eby, who is the

leader and Premier of the BC NDP party since October 2022, is working day and night for the strength of his party.

Some of the NDP MLAs are not willing to seek a thirdor fourth-times election, which is worrier sign for the Premier, there will be difficulties in the selection of new candidates.

Now let’s see what happens in the future. Similarly, a few Muslim candidates are participating also in the BC election with the Conservative Party, BCNDP, United BC, and Green Party. Some independent candidates are also taking part. Whether Muslim candidates are independent or with any party, the most important tasks are their homework, attracting voters and popularizing public opinion. The upcoming three months are very important for candidates and voters. God willing, any MLA will elect among the Muslim communities, then voice of the Muslim community can be reach in the Parliament, because the Muslim community is also facing numerous problems and it has become very important to reach some candidate to raise the voice.

Voting is your right as well as duty. While choosing the candidate, national interest should be kept in front, not personal interest. What do you think,?

Canada’s

priorities at NATo summit take backseat to spending concerns

As NATO leaders gather in Washington, D.C., for their annual summit that begins Tuesday, Canada’s involvement in major discussions may be complicated by how allies view its commitment to defence spending, analysts say.

The defence alliance is marking its

75th anniversary by looking toward an uncertain future and growing global threat environment where both the Arctic and the Indo-Pacific are set to be top priorities, along with the ongoing war in Ukraine. Security in the far north is of particular concern to Canada, which also has heavy military investments in Eastern Europe and the northern Pacific.

But pressure to meet NATO’s threshold of spending at least two per cent of GDP on defence — and present a concrete plan to get there — may come to a head at the summit and relegate Canada to the background in the talks...

George Clooney joins Democrat supporters, donors calling for Biden to drop re-election bid

It’s not just a handful of congressional Democrats who are urging U.S. President Joe Biden to re-think his re-election prospects — some prominent party supporters and donors are, too. The 81-year-old Biden has been fighting to keep his reelection effort afloat after a muchcriticized June 27 debate performance against 78-year-old Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president. The men are the two oldest candidates to ever seek the presidency.

On Wednesday, Hollywood actor George Clooney publicly joined the chorus of voices calling for Biden to quit the presidential race.

In an op-ed published in The New York Times on Wednesday, Clooney

withdrew his support for Biden, saying the Democrat leader was not the same man he was in 2020.

“It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,”...

Putin – speaking before Modi at a televised meeting at the Kremlin on Tuesday – said their two countries enjoyed a “special strategic partnership” and praised the Indian leader for his efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict. “I thank you for the attention you are paying to the most acute problems, including trying to find ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis – above all by peaceful means, of course,” said Putin. Verdict on reserved seats due after full court huddle

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court full bench had a threadbare discussion on the matter related to reserved seats for women and non-Muslims on Wednesday, a day after closing the hearing on a set of appeals moved by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and reserving the verdict that is now expected to be announced later this week. The full court after the consul-

The apex court had earlier reserved its ruling on the appeals against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Peshawar High Court (PHC) decisions to deny reserved seats for women and nonMuslims to the SIC. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa while closing the hearing on Tuesday had simply stated “reserved”, though Justice Munib Akhtar presumed to have suggested announcing the decision the same day. What is Hezbollah?

Hezbollah leader Nasrallah and Israel have traded barbs, raising tensions in the region and worries of impending war.

The tit-for-tat strikes between Hezbollah and Israel have taken on a sharper edge.

The exchanges have gone on since October 8, the day after Israel launched its brutal war on Gaza. Israeli officials have said that the army has an approved plan for war with Hezbollah, while Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah has fired back, saying Israel should be very worried.

The region is waiting with bated breath to see what will happen next. But what is Hezbollah?

Here’s everything we know: What is Hezbollah?

Hezbollah (Party of God in Arabic) is an Iran-backed group that formed in 1982 to fight Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon. The group, which finds most of its support among Shia Muslims, is one of Israel’s biggest foes in the region.

The group says it has precision rock-

ets that can hit all parts of Israel and, as of 2021, its leader Hassan Nasrallah said Hezbollah had 100,000 fighters. The United States estimates Iran allocated hundreds of millions of dollars annually to Hezbollah in recent years. The group, headed by Nasrallah since 1992, is one of the most influential political blocs in Lebanon and is often dubbed “a state within a state” due to its vast political and military network.

What are Hezbollah’s aims?

When it formed, Hezbollah aimed to get Israel out of Lebanon. Israel withdrew unilaterally from southern Lebanon in 2000 after nearly 20 years of fighting.

Hezbollah proclaimed itself the first Arab army ever to force Israel to cede control of territory. Israel still occupies Syria’s Golan Heights and Palestinian territories it took in the 1967 War. Hezbollah released a manifesto [PDF] after its formation, highlighting objectives that included defeating Israel and expelling Western colonialist entities from the Middle East. Has Hezbollah clashed with Israel

In 2024, some of the most pressing issues specific to Canada include: Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability: Canada faces significant challenges related to climate change impacts, including wildfires, thawing permafrost, coastal erosion, and biodiversity loss. The country is also grappling with the transition to a low-carbon economy while balancing economic interests in sectors like oil and gas. Indigenous Rights and Reconciliation: Issues concerning Indigenous rights, land claims, and the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action remain prominent. There is ongoing advocacy for greater recognition and preservation of Indigenous cultures, languages, and self-governance.

fighting is prohibited in it. In Islam, salvation is earned through one’s own intentions and actions. In sacred months, good deeds weigh heavier and sins are more serious as well. For Shia Muslims, it is important because it commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and the massacre at Karbala.

good deeds are more than his sins, because he does not pay attention to his bad deeds or check on his sins, but if he does a good deed he remembers it and relies on it. This is like the one who seeks Allah’s forgiveness with his tongue (that is, by words only), and glorifies Allah by saying “subhan Allah” one hundred times a day, then he backbites about the Muslims and slanders their honor,

Healthcare and Public Health:

Ensuring equitable access to healthcare services, addressing mental health challenges, and managing public health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic are critical issues in Canada. There is also a focus on improving healthcare infrastructure and reducing wait times.

Economic Recovery and Job Creation: The aftermath of global economic shifts, including impacts from the pandemic, has led to a focus on job creation, economic diversification, and supporting industries that are essential to Canada’s economic stability.

Housing Affordability and Homelessness: Major cities like Vancouver and Toronto face significant challenges related to housing affordability, homelessness, and the

In a cross-border raid in July 2006, Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers, which it hoped would secure a prisoner swap with Israel. Israel responded militarily, resulting in a 34day war also called the July War. Neither side was able to prevail militarily, but more than 1,100 Lebanese and 165 Israelis were killed.

Nasrallah has often said the 2006 war was a success for Hezbollah, noting it withstood Israel’s much larger forces. Hezbollah is widely believed by analysts to be the only non-state actor in the region that could take on Israel. Is Hezbollah different from Hamas? Hezbollah is a Lebanese organisation, Hamas is a Palestinian group that formed in Gaza in 1987 after the beginning of the first Intifada against Israel’s occupation.

They are separate entities but share the objective of armed resistance against Israel.

Hamas has governed the Gaza Strip since being elected in 2006.

After a Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, Hezbollah said it was in close contact with Palestinian resistance leadership and that the attack had been a “decisive response to Israel’s continued occupation and a message to those seeking normalisation”, referring to Arab countries rumoured to be about to normalise ties with Israel.

Will Israel start a war with Hezbollah? Given the latest verbal sparring and

escalated strikes, there are real fears that that will happen. And, analysts have long said, Palestinian factions in Lebanon are eager to open a second front if Hezbollah initiates an attack. As the unspoken rules of engagement the two sides have stuck to so far get shakier, it remains to be seen if there will be a spark. Is Hezbollah a ‘terrorist’ organisation?

The US and other Western countries consider Hezbollah a “terrorist organisation”. Saudi Arabia also considers it a “terrorist” group. The European Union classifies Hezbollah’s military wing as a “terrorist group”, but not its political wing. What is Hezbollah’s role in lebanon?

Hezbollah has ministers in government and lawmakers in parliament. The group became more politically prominent after its close ally Syria withdrew from Lebanon following the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005. Hariri was seen as a symbol of Saudi influence in Lebanese politics. In 2016, the Hezbollah-endorsed Michel Aoun became president. Two years later, Hezbollah and its allies won a majority in the country’s first general election in nine years. In 2022, Hezbollah’s bloc lost its majority but the group continues to feature large the country’s politics.

B.C. NDP ministers Bains,

Statement from MlA Harry Bains on his future

election.

Ralston and

Bruce Ralston is calling it a day.

“It has been the honour of a lifetime to represent the people of SurreyNewton since I was first elected in 2005, and to serve as the Minister of Labour for our province. “While this decision was not made lightly, I have decided to not run in the next election and allow someone new to continue the work we have begun.

“When I first decided to run many years ago, I started with a mission to take action on human rights and workers’ rights. Under the leadership of Premiers John Horgan and now David Eby, I am proud of the work we’ve accomplished and the difference we have made in people’s lives.

“Serving British Columbians and people in my community has been truly fulfilling, but now I am looking forward to spending more time with my loved ones who have stood by me during my time in public office. I could not have done any of this without them and their support.

“I want to thank all of my constituents in Surrey-Newton for putting their trust in me to represent this amazing community.

“I also want to thank Premiers Horgan and Eby for the opportunity to represent working people and all British Columbians as the Minister of Labour. Their leadership and vision have been instrumental in driving positive change across the province, and I have full confidence that Premier Eby will continue to make life better for all British Columbians.”

Harry Bains, MLA for Surrey-Newton Media Contact: Veeno Dewan, July 4, 2024 longtime NDP MlA Ralston not seeking re-election in Surrey:

Five-term NDP MLA for Surrey-Whalley has decided not to run for a sixth term in the Oct. 19 provincial general

Zeeshan Wahla is a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with extensive experience in engineering and planning, successfully running an Engineering Consulting business. He is registered P. Eng. in four provinces. He is committed to uphold the values of truth, honesty, and trustworthiness and safeguard human life and welfare and the environment.

Family : Zeeshan has proudly called Surrey home ever since he first arrived in Canada as an immigrant. In addition to his deep ties to the community, he finds immense joy in his role as a devoted husband to his better half and as a loving father to his four beautiful daughters. Zeeshan’s unwavering commitment to his family extends to ensuring their education and well-being, as he passionately strives to provide them with the opportunities for a bright and prosperous future...

Roots and Values:

Arriving in British Columbia as an immigrant in 2007, hailing from a family steeped in a tradition of hard work and perseverance, Zeeshan is deeply committed to enhancing the quality of life for all residents of this vibrant province. With a profound experience, Zeeshan’s journey includes a steadfast pursuit of higher education and the establishment of himself as a dynamic entrepreneur.

Fleming won’t seek re-election in oct. 19 vote

The five-term NDP MLA for Surrey-Whalley has decided not to run for a sixth term in the Oct. 19 provincial general election, ending a storied career as MLA that began when he defeated incumbent Democratic Reform MLA Elayne Brenzinger for the seat in 2005. He continued his election-winning ways in 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2020.

“The session is very busy, I had a little bit of a chance to reflect and just to think about the prospect of going forward for another four years,” Ralston told the Now-Leader. “I’ve been at it almost 20 years so I decided that’s it’s time for the next, time to do something else, time for the next phase of my life.”

A criminal defence lawyer by trade, Ralston (King’s Counsel) also ran his own law firm in Surrey, where he has lived since 1990. “I still have my practicing certificate, I’ve kept that up, done the courses. I don’t really expect to return to the practice of law, no.”

His career as MLA saw him serve as president of the BC NDP from 1996 to 2001, and replace John Horgan as NDP House Leader in 2014 so Horgan could run for the party leadership.

Before entering the provincial arena Ralston, now 71, served on Surrey council from 1988 to 1993 with the now-defunct Surrey Civic Electors slate, which had strong ties to the NDP. “We envisaged a dramatic change in the centre of Surrey, but it’s finally beginning to come into focus and it’s pretty exciting. I think the dimension that’s missing is some of the real aspects of urban life, just a more urban feel. I mean we’re building the buildings but we need some of the urban amenities, the little touches that make a city livable, and I think that’s coming, that’s coming. It is a very dramatic change in the centre of the city, for sure.” Looking back, Ralston says the people of Surrey have been “pretty good” to him.

“I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to serve,” he said. “I think in some respects politics is maybe a little bit coarser in some parts than it was before but people are generally very good. “This doesn’t happen terribly often, but I was on the SkyTrain platform at Gateway just, oh maybe a couple weeks ago,” he recalled, “and a woman came up to me and said ‘Are you Bruce Ralston?’ And you’re always a little bit cautious when someone asks you but I said yes. She said well, I just want to thank you for the great job that you do for our community. People do from time to time say that; it’s not common – people express more pointed views on different topics. But that’s part of being in political life and public service. You take the rough with the smooth.” Surrey, he says, is a model for the future of British Columbia and “in some ways, the future of Canada. It’s a dynamic, really rapidly growing, changing city.”

Rob Fleming won’t seek re-election

FRalston served on city council during some rock-em, sock-em years. “I would say participating in a public hearing in Surrey is good preparation for anything that political life can throw at you,” he says. “I really enjoyed it, I mean I learned a lot in my time on Surrey council with mayor Bose. Surrey politics is tumultuous, it’s always never dull, never dull. I learned a lot there.”

In May, Ralston was still planning to run. As for stumping, he said, “run scared or run last, that’s the old adage. Never take it for granted, that’s for sure. I never do.”

He finishes his career in provincial politics as minister of forests, and has also served as minister responsible for the consular corps., minister of energy, mines and petroleum resources, minister of energy, mines and low

leming, 52, transportation minister and Victoria-Swan Lake MLA, said it had been a privilege to serve his constituents for “the better part of two decades.” Fleming saluted Horgan and Eby for appointing him to cabinet and thanked former NDP opposition leader Carole James for her leadership and friendship as a colleague in the neighbouring riding of Victoria-Beacon Hill.“I am optimistic about our province’s ability to solve complex problems when we work together,” he said. “And I hope to continue to be able to contribute to solving challenges in a different capacity in the future.”

Fleming said he would be “forever grateful” to the B.C. Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association, labour unions, First Nations and transportation ministry staff for their dedication and co-operation rebuilding the devastated Coquihalla Highway after November 2021 flooding.

The other NDP MLAs who have said they will not seek re-election are Katrine Conroy, George Heyman, Nicholas Simons, Doug Routley, Jennifer Rice, Katrina Chen, Fin Donnelly and Murray Rankin.

Zeeshan Wahla: Surrey City Centre, MlA Candidate(Conservative Party of BC)

Through these experiences, he has gained invaluable insight into the challenges faced by ordinary individuals within the current socio-economic landscape.

Zeeshan’s unwavering dedication is directed towards serving the people of Surrey City Centre electrical district and the broader community of British Columbia, striving to address their needs and aspirations with integrity and compassion.

Community Engagement:

With over a decade of active involvement in the Surrey community, Zeeshan has been fortunate to witness the richness of its diversity and the generosity of its people. The support and opportunities he has received from the community have been immeasurable, shaping his perspective and instilling in him a profound sense of gratitude. He is compelled by a deep-seated belief that it is his turn to reciprocate and contribute to the betterment of the community that has given him so much.

However, amidst the strengths of our community, he recognizes that there are challenges that demand our attention. Many individuals and families are grappling with the consequences of current government policies, rules, and regulations, which have created barriers and hardships for everyday citizens. It is with a sense of responsibility and urgency that we step forward, motivated to advocate for change and work tirelessly to address these pressing issues. Together, with the support and collaboration of fellow community members, Zeeshan is committed to fostering positive transformation and ensuring that the voices of those affected are heard and represented.

Conservative Alignment:

Zeeshan strongly believes that the Conserva-

tive Party of BC stands out as the only political entity with a clear vision and ambitious agenda focused on addressing the pressing issues affecting the common person and our community at large. The current state of the housing market and soaring gas prices have reached unsustainable levels, placing significant strain on the livelihoods of individuals and families across British Columbia.

Zeeshan believes it is imperative that the government takes decisive action to rein in these escalating costs by implementing effective measures to stabilize the housing market and alleviate the burden of high gas prices. Additionally, there is a critical need to reassess government spending, particularly in areas of lavish expenditures, and redirect those funds back to the taxpayers who ultimately foot the bill.

Zeeshan holds a firm belief in the fundamental right of parents to make informed decisions regarding the education of their children. He advocates for a system in which parents are empowered to choose the educational path that best aligns with their values, beliefs, and aspirations for their children. Whether it be through public, private, or homeschooling avenues, Zeeshan emphasizes the importance of government providing fair and equitable funding to support families in accessing the type of education they deem most suitable for their children’s needs.

Recognizing that each child is unique and may thrive in different educational environments, Zeeshan acknowledges the principle of educational diversity and choice. He understands that parents are in the best position to determine the educational setting that will nurture their children’s talents, interests, and learning styles. Zeeshan asserts that political bias and

ideology have no rightful place within British Columbia’s education curriculum and advocates for their immediate removal.

He emphasizes that schools should serve as environments dedicated to learning, devoid of agendas aimed at activism or indoctrination. He firmly believes that education should be a neutral and objective pursuit, free from the influence of partisan ideologies. He maintains that students deserve an education that equips them with critical thinking skills, fosters open-mindedness, and encourages exploration of diverse perspectives without bias or coercion.

Zeeshan seeks to ensure that schools remain bastions of knowledge and intellectual growth, where students are empowered to form their own informed opinions based on facts and evidence.

He is committed to promoting an educational environment that cultivates independent thinking and respects the diverse viewpoints of students, educators, and families alike. Moreover, prioritizing policies that support the growth and prosperity of small and medium-sized businesses is paramount. These enterprises serve as the backbone of our economy, yet they often face numerous obstacles and barriers to success.

By implementing targeted initiatives and providing necessary resources and support, we can empower these businesses to thrive and contribute to the overall economic wellbeing of our province.

In essence, Zeeshan believes the Conservative Party of BC’s commitment to prudent fiscal management, economic empowerment, and advocacy for the common man positions it as the most viable option for bringing about positive change and addressing the challenges facing our community.

info to know: The first energy utility in North America to designate RNG to customers

Starting July 1, 2024, all FortisBC gas customers will have one per cent of their gas automatically designated as Renewable Natural Gas1 (RNG), known as RNG blend—a first for any energy utility company in North America.

1: Renewable Natural Gas (also called RNG or biomethane) is produced in a different manner than conventional natural gas. It is derived from biogas, which is produced from decomposing organic waste from landfills, agricultural waste and wastewater from treatment facilities. The biogas is captured and cleaned to create RNG. When RNG is added to North America’s natural gas system, it mixes with conventional natural gas. This means we’re unable to direct RNG to a specific customer. But the more RNG is added to the

gas system, the less conventional natural gas is needed, thereby reducing the use of fossil fuels and overall greenhouse gas emissions.

2 FortisBC uses the term renewable and low-carbon gas to refer collectively to the low-carbon gases or fuels that the utility can acquire under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Clean Energy) Regulation, which are: Renewable Natural Gas (also called RNG or biomethane), hydrogen, synthesis gas (from wood waste) and lignin.

FortisBC’s renewable and low-carbon gas portfolio currently includes only Renewable Natural Gas. Other gases and fuels may be added to the program over time. Depending on their source, all of these gases have differing levels of lifecycle carbon intensity. However, all of these gases are low carbon when compared to the lifecycle carbon intensity of conventional natural gas. The current burner tip emission factor of RNG is 0.27 grams of carbon dioxide equivalent per megajoule

“Modern Technology “ and privacy,

How “new technology is shaping our community and/or culture” is a very important topic and its impact on our society. Technology is negatively impacting the upcoming generation, which is an issue that seriously needs to be addressed. There are hundreds and thousands of books and articles published discussing the pros and cons of new technology which has brought tremendous revolution in our daily life. It’s hard to keep track of the continuous advancements due to new development at lighting speed. Some books are in favor and some are against. This huge change affects every aspect of our life. No one can deny the truth that our world is globally changing each day because of modern technology. Popular culture development depends on the activities and feelings produced as a result of some dominant objects. The primary driving force of popular culture are media, mass appeal, marketing, though this is not an authentic culture of the people but a system of homogenous and standardized products manufactured in the service of capitalist domination by the elite. We can call it capitalism or capitalist popular culture.

Smartphone and Artificial Intelligence (ie. AI) is the main product of modern tech companies which are shaping our culture and society. Each one of us are a product or commodity in the hands of highly advanced technology gadgets. Simply browsing websites and apps leaves behind an amassing unimaginable amount of personal data. Work giants like Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Apple have be-

come techno-oligarchy with amazing economic and political power by collecting unchecked data which provides an opportunity to Big Tech companies for targeted control over American’s daily life and over the citizens of other countries too.

Private data usage can be classified into three cases: selling it to data brokers, using it to improve marketing, or enhancing customer experience. Unchecked data collection in the hands of Big Tech gives them power which is a threat to American liberty for decades.

Here we have to understand ‘digital self’ and “digital footprint” which refers to a user’s online persona and identification. A person’s identity online is shaped by browsing different websites and their interactions with each site. As we interact from one website to another website, we create an enormous amount of data by using some of it and some we leave behind as a trail. This exploration is a powerful tool for personal improvement and knowledge but it comes with serious consequences (danger) or threat to our privacy and personal information. Simon Head in his book ‘Mindless’ shows how mass surveillance is already manipulating employees of businesses and a question arises that are citizens next? And one wonders where the government is heading or maybe already there! We do not know.

This is not the only concern for a use. Another important concern is “over use of social media’’. Smartphones are way too smart and highly addictive, they exploit our (human) weaknesses and sometimes you wonder if this phone is reading your mind. There are devices created for con-

of energy (gCO2e/MJ) and the current renewable and low-carbon gas portfolio lifecycle emissions for stationary combustion are -22 gCO2e/ MJ. This is below B.C.’s carbon intensity threshold for low-carbon gases of 36.4 gCO2e/MJ set out in the 2021 B.C. Hydrogen Strategy.

Sarah Nelson, director of customer service, has to share about the RNG blend and what it means for you. Why is FortisBC implementing an RNG blend?

Renewable and low-carbon gases,2 like RNG, are expected to play a key role in FortisBC’s ongoing efforts to reduce overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while leveraging our existing gas system. With the introduction of the RNG blend, all customers can play a role in helping to reduce GHG emissions in B.C.

When RNG is added to North America’s gas system, it mixes with conventional natural gas. While we are unable to direct RNG to a specific customer, the more RNG added to the gas system, the less conventional natural gas is needed, thereby reducing the use of fossil fuels and overall GHG emissions.

Will receiving the RNG blend cost me more?

Customers will not experience any cost impacts on July 1, 2024; howev-

venience such as Google and Alexa where you can ask them questions by starting the sentence with Hey Google (or Alexa for Apple users) and are able to react and respond to those specific words. Therefore, who knows if all devices are listening to us all the time. Another example is receiving ads on social media apps or as pop-ups on websites which are similar or exactly the things you potentially mentioned with other in conversation. Smartphones learn about you, which means they get better at keeping you hooked. It provides access to many apps using all sorts of sophisticated strategies to lure users back to the main menu and to make you share, snap, and swipe back and forth.Young adults and teenagers are the main target they glue to the internet for multiple hours a day, increasing their daily screen time without notice.

er, this may change over time. The designated RNG blend percentage will increase over time and customers could see a change in their bills in the future.

Can I continue to opt in for the voluntary RNG program?

Yes. We will continue to offer the voluntary RNG program so you can choose to designate five, 10, 25, 50 or 100 per cent of your gas use as RNG, inclusive of the one per cent. For example, a voluntary RNG customer who has opted for 10 per cent RNG will now be designated with nine per cent under the voluntary program plus one per cent from the new RNG blend.

Can I opt out of the RNG blend?

No. To maximize the reduction of GHG emissions, full customer involvement is required. The RNG blend adds to our ongoing efforts to reduce overall GHG emissions as we transition away from delivering conventional natural gas to delivering renewable and low-carbon gases. Our vision is to have 75 per cent of the gas in our system be either renewable or low carbon by 2050.

and virtual reality is also contributing in creating abnormal physiological states that alienate them from real life. Over use of smartphones has some very negative impacts which are very difficult to handle like internet bullying, pornography and low academic achievement.

Browsing for hours and hours has not only waste their valuable time, had some very negative effects like poor peer and family relationships, vision loss, seeking self worth from pseudosocial approval etc, this generates self-deception, disillusions and disorienting. A surveillance study about internet addiction has shown results that internet addiction is harmful and dangerous than other forms of addictions. It also contributes to depression, behavioral changes, social communication disorders, anxiety,

Another issue is that so called clean technology is not that clean as it is invading personal privacy. It is not as green technology, as was mentioned by Guillaume Pitron in his book “The Dark Cloud”, that this Tec is absorbing 10% of the world’s electricity and represents 4%of the planet’s carbon dioxide emissions. Now we are facing a new threat: Digital oligarchy growing consolidation of power very fast. The leading companies are trying to gain a monopoly over technologies they control. Outside China, the internet world is dominated by a handful of USA companies. As Hawley said in his book “The Tyranny of Big Tech” he states “It seeks to create its own social universe and draw all life into its orbit”.

I end my article with the saying of Stephen Hawking “Our future is a race between growing technology and the wisdom with which we use it”.

The summer is the best time to enjoy the sunlight because the hot weather allows you to bask in the heat outdoors, unlike the winter period when you fear extreme weather conditions.

Hot Weather Encourages

You to Exercise More

Hot weather is evidently more appealing for a day of exercise than rainy, gloomy weather. As you grow older, exercise becomes more important for your lifestyle because it helps cardiovascular health, flexibility and mobility. The Heat Helps to Improve Your Memory

When your body temperature is high, you’re more likely to be alert and mentally sharper. For those struggling with memoryloss-related illnesses, you might experience that during the winter months, you’re more likely to forget things. Meanwhile, in the summer, your memory gets better because the surrounding temperatures are higher as well.

The Warm Weather is Safer

Another reason why summer is beneficial is because of the general safety. Driving in summer might be easier and safer than in the colder months when there is snow and ice on the roads which results in lower visibility. Additionally, if you live in a particularly cold area, the chances of being snowed in and being unable to seek medical attention if you need to is also higher. Meanwhile, the benefit of the warmer months is that it’s easier and safer to commute around. Well then how to enjoy summer??

Kids are getting out of school, and family vacations, beach outings, BBQs and many other fun summer activities we all love to do are in full swing. Although most of us work during the summer, it’s also a time to enjoy and relax.

Learning to truly unwind and unplug will help us become happier and more balanced, and recharge our physical and spiritual batteries.

1. Take some time to spend outdoors. When we spend our time in nature, it naturally calms us and gives us a feeling of inner peace. The bonus is natural sunlight, which gives us our vitamin D –great for the bones and a mood booster.

2. Unplug from technology. Use the summer as an excuse to be in vacation mode. Even if you only can do this once a week, take that time to connect to nature by unplugging from technology.

3. Start a fitness program that is fun and adventurous. Go hiking, bike riding, etc. Do something new and fun! Make it better by bringing a friend.

4. Slow down. It’s summer; start living mindfully by doing one task at a time, enjoying the beauty around you and living in the moment.

5. Spend time with friends and family. Set up date nights and fun nights! The days are longer, so it’s a great time to really go out and have fun!

6. Do activities you really love. Read the book you never had time to, take a day trip to a new town and see new sights or go to the beach and relax. Whatever brings

you “flow.” This is the time to do it.

7. Step outside of your comfort zone. Try something new. It can be something simple like trying a new drink or food or going to a new restaurant. Every time we try something new, we take a risk and feel a boost of happiness.

8. Use up your personal time from work and have some free time with no expectations. It doesn’t matter if you go on vacation or just take a walk; just enjoy some time off!

9. Create some “me time.” I wake up 10 minutes earlier in the summer to sit outside on my deck with my coffee and just enjoy the silence. All you need to do is take 10-15 minutes a day for you!

10. Breathe. Even with nice weather and longer days, we still can get stressed. So, when you feel the stress coming, take a moment to close your eyes and take a deep breath. It works!

lahore ATC dismisses Imran’s pre-arrest bail petitions in three May 9 cases

ALahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday announced its reserved verdict on pre-arrest bail petitions of PTI founder Imran Khan in three cases related to the May 9 riots and dismissed them. May 9 holds significant importance in

Reflecting on

As the NHL season has come to a close, fans around the world are reflecting on an unforgettable year of hockey.

The season, filled with thrilling games, unexpected twists, and outstanding performances, has once again demonstrated why the NHL holds a special place in the hearts of sports enthusiasts. With the Stanley Cup now claimed by the Florida Panthers, it time to celebrate their victory, recognize individual achievements, and look back on a season that has left an indelible mark on the sport.

The Panthers have emerged as the 2023-2024 Stanley Cup champions, capturing the coveted trophy after an intense playoff run. Their journey to the top was a testament to teamwork, resilience, and exceptional skill. Led by their captain, Aleksander Barkov, the team demonstrated an unwavering determination and strategic prowess that saw them triumph over formidable opponents. The final series against the Edmonton Oilers was a nailbiter, with each game showcasing the high stakes and intense compe-

the country’s political landscape, as it was on this day last year when military installations were attacked following Imran’s arrest from the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) premises, which formed the basis of a severe state crackdown against him and his party.

Arising from the scenario were three cases, among many against Imran, concerning attacks on the Jinnah House, also the residence of the Lahore corps commander, Askari Tower and Shadman police station.

The ATC had reserved its verdict on bail petitions about the cases on Saturday.

Imran is currently serving out his sentence in the Iddat case at Adiala Jail. His sentences in the two Toshakhana cases were suspended while he was acquitted by the Islamabad

High Court in the cipher case.

However, an Islamabad district and sessions court had turned down the pleas of the PTI founder and his wife to suspend their sevenyear sentences in the Iddat case.

Earlier on March 1, an ATC had confirmed Imran’s pre-arrest bail in four cases, including party worker Zille Shah’s murder, attack on police outside Zaman Park and setting fire to PML-N offices in Model Town and a container at Kalma Chowk on May 9, 2023.

The trial court had previously in August, 2023, dismissed the pre-arrest bail pleas of the PTI founding chairman in seven criminal cases over his non-appearance, after he was jailed in the Toshakhana case.

Later, the Lahore High Court had set aside

the ATC decision and restored Imran’s bail petitions with a direction to the trial court to decide all the petitions afresh on merit.

The PML-N government has already spoken its mind about keeping Imran in jail for its five-year term till 2029 for “economic stability”. “People come to us and tell us if Pakistan has to progress then Imran Khan will have to be kept in jail for five years,” Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said while talking to reporters last month.

He had said that if Imran came out of jail then there would be again sit-ins and fight and the country could not afford this.

“There is a voice of the people [that] Imran Khan should remain in jail for five years,” he had said. Source: dawn.com/news

Exciting NHL Season as It Comes to a Close

tition that define the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Panther victory not only brought joy to their loyal fans but also highlighted the depth of talent and dedication within the squad especially since they came so close to the Cup last year as well.

As the season wraps up, the NHL also celebrates individual players who have excelled and made significant contributions to the game.

The Hart Trophy, awarded to the league most valuable player, was won by the Avalanche’s Nathan Mackinnon. His outstanding performance, characterized by consistent scoring, leadership on and off the ice, and a remarkable ability to influence games, made him a standout choice.

The Vezina Trophy, given to the best goaltender, went to Connor Hellebuyck, whose exceptional goaltending was pivotal to his team success. His agility, reflexes, and composure under pressure were second to none, earning him welldeserved recognition.

The Norris Trophy, awarded to the league top defenseman, was claimed by our very own Vancouver Captain Quinn Hughes.

His defensive acumen, coupled with his offensive contributions, set him apart as the league premier blueliner. His ability to read the game, make crucial plays, and lead from the back was instrumental in his team performance. A dynamic player and an exciting watch.

In the words of Captain Hughes, Losing is really hard, and it wasn’ t an easy couple years in Vancouver. Forced me and a bunch of the guys on the team to re-evaluate what we want to do and what kind of team and organization we want to be.

The Calder Trophy, awarded to the best rookie, went to this year’s first round pick from Chicago, Connor Bedard. His debut season was nothing short of spectacular, marked by an invite to the All-Star game, showcasing incredible skill, maturity, and a promising future in the NHL despite an early injury.

The 2023-2024 NHL season was marked by numerous highlights and memorable moments that kept fans on the edge of their seats. From dramatic overtime victories to stunning individual performances, the season offered a rich tapestry of excitement and drama.

One of the most captivating storylines was the resurgence of the Canucks, who defied expectations to secure not only a playoff spot, but an advance to Round 2. Their comeback story resonated with fans and reminded everyone of the unpredictable nature of the sport. The city is proud and excited to see what we can do next year.

The season also saw the emergence of young stars who announced their arrival in the league with authority. Players like Luke Hughes and Brock Faber showcased their immense

Their performances not only thrilled fans but also hinted at a new era of hockey excellence.

In addition to individual brilliance, the season was characterized by remarkable team efforts and strategic battles. Coaches and players continually adapted to new challenges, demonstrating the evolving nature of the game.

The implementation of advanced analytics and technology played a significant role in shaping strategies and enhancing performance, reflecting the modern approach to the sport.

Beyond the ice, the NHL season had a profound impact on communities and fans worldwide.

The league commitment to social responsibility was evident through various initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity, diversity, and mental health awareness. The league’s efforts to expand its footprint through events like the Global Series and partnerships with international organizations have helped bring the excitement of NHL hockey to new audiences.

The upcoming offseason will be a period of anticipation and excitement as teams make strategic moves to bolster their rosters. Fans will eagerly follow trades, draft picks, and free agency signings, all of which set the stage for the next chapter of NHL action.

In conclusion, the 2023-2024 NHL season was a celebration of hockey at its finest. From the crowning of the Panthers as Stanley Cup champions to the recognition of individual excellence, the season was a testament to the enduring appeal and excitement of the sport.
