This summer, my son will be getting a long overdue room refresh. People always ask me what my kids’ rooms are like, and right now, I have to say my son’s is a dismal collection of mis-matched hand-me downs and not much else! Don’t get me wrong, I love hand-me-downs and I will be holding onto a beautiful oak chest of drawers I scored on gumtree last year. His current bed - that has been in my family for over 20 years - will be moving to the spare room so he can upsize to a king single. As he moves into Year One next year, I want to honour his independence and create a space that is all his. Somewhere he can disappear and play, without his annoying mum pestering him!

This Christmas I am incredibly excited as we will finally be reuniting with my family in Adelaide! I’ll be meeting my baby niece Tulullah (born in June) for the first time and I intend to give her a Miffy (in mustard) as her new snuggly bed companion from her Sydney cousins.

For my three children this year, I intend to inject some love into their bedrooms -especially my sons’. My youngest, Chester, has some blank wall space to fill and my pre-teen, Jude, would love a nook to read or play in his iPad. My daughter, Magnolia, loves anklets and the gold would complement her olive skin (I’m in work mode thinking about what colour would suit!). Once the design is complete, place a sheet of baking paper over the top and iron the beads until they are stuck together. (Make sure you follow the instructions on the packaging as you can melt the beads to the board).

Glue the Santa hat and nose onto the snowman.

Next glue the stick arms onto the glasses.

Leave both to dry overnight.

Place glasses face down and glue the completed snowman onto the bridge section of the glasses.

What was your inspiration?

It started with the wallpaper from Minnie and Me Interiors – I sourced this design myself. After scrolling the internet for hours, this just popped to me! Secondly, I have

Most of the bedroom colours are based on the wallpaper. Then, based on Andrew’s interests, I gathered all the maps and explorer items. Andrew also loves cars and we found some perfect retro cars that tie in with the DIY bedhead, which has a vintage vibe, but given a modern touch by painting it.

Place on a lined baking tray.

The traditional name is Vanillekipferl. They are crescent shaped almond shortbread served for the festive season.

While biscuits are still hot straight from the oven, roll them carefully in the vanilla sugar. Be gentle as the biscuits will be soft and hot they need to be for the sugar to stick.
