At Westlake International School, technology is embraced to enhance our students’ learning experience. Starting in 2019, we adopted Google Suite for Education as the technology learning platform for the school. All students in secondary school are equipped with a school determined device (Microsoft Surface Go), and in primary, school-based tablets are integrated into the classroom learning environment. The wide range of programmes in school and boarding are designed to nurture each individual’s unique talents. With a strong emphasis on character development, we aim to graduate lifelong learners with the values that will allow them to be successful members of their community.

We are an associate member of the Boarding Schools’ Association UK. Over the years, we have moulded boarders to be independent learners and provided them with the necessary life skills needed when they leave the nest. The boarding house upholds a culture of discipline. Boarders as young as 10 years old are taught time management and self-management and are entrusted with the privilege of making decisions daily with their Boarding House Parents’ guidance. They develop integrity through learning to be a trustworthy friend to others and to do the right thing even when no one is looking.

Being a boarder means more time for meaningful activities that allow for well-rounded development. Besides recreational activities, time for revision and academic coaching are allocated daily to ensure consistency in a boarder’s academic progression. Teachers from Westlake International School are assigned a group each to provide the necessary guidance needed.

Excursions are organised every month, and activities include jungle trekking, visiting historical sites, or even visiting a mall. 7-day boarders also get to enjoy a night swim every Friday at the school’s swimming pool.

On Sunday evenings, the boarders attend assertive mentoring sessions with their Boarding House Parents. These sessions include character development topics such as boundaries, screen time, habits, productivity strategies and many more.

All boarding houses are locked after lights out, and 24-hour security personnel are deployed, ensuring the students’ safety.

Describe yourself in three words. Compassionate, attentive, considerate. slipping and sliding all over the grass. I couldn’t stop laughing! I will never forget that.

When did you start boarding? How long have you been a boarder? I started boarding in Year 10 and I have been a boarder for 4 years.

What do you like most about boarding? I really enjoy the sense of independence that comes from being a boarder. It teaches me to be responsible and practical which will prove to be incredibly useful in my future.

What do you like least about boarding? I would have to say that if I lived at home, my schedule would be more relaxed. However, in boarding much of the rules and routines apply to the entirety of the boarding house, and thus the level of flexibility is much less.

What do you miss most about not staying at home? I really miss home-cooked meals every day and eating together with my family.

Tell us your most memorable boarding school incident! I don’t recall a specific incident, but I remember playing football on the field with other boarders when it started to rain. We decided to continue playing but were What opportunities has boarding given you that you would not have had otherwise? I’ve had the chance to be the female representative of the Boarder’s Council. This really taught me skills regarding leadership, cooperation, organisation, and communication.

Would you encourage other students to be boarders as well? Why? I would encourage other students to be boarders as well because I have grown into a much more outgoing and independent person. I feel as though if I stayed at home, I would have been much more timid and afraid of the real world.

What do you hope to do when you finish school? I would love to attend university in England to become a neonatal nurse. However, I want to start working and saving up to afford a place of my own and to decorate it as I please!
