2025 Summer Guide

Page 1

A letter from the Director

Spring is in the air in the Magic City and the anticipation of the season ahead surrounds us. It has been said that change is constant. Those words hold true when looking through the scope of the Minot Park District. We find ourselves with many evolving projects with a large portion of them surrounding Roosevelt Park and the Roosevelt Park Zoo with the MI-6 and MI-7 flood control projects well underway. We know there will be impacts and disruptions to our facilities throughout these projects. The number one priority of the project is safety for our patrons, staff and the animals that call the Roosevelt Park Zoo home. We do ask our community for patience and grace as construction will continue to increase through the spring and summer months. We will actively be updating the Minot Parks website as well as our social media outlets to keep our park and zoo patrons informed on any interruptions that may occur. We know the construction process will be messy, but we believe the result will be beautiful for Roosevelt Park, Roosevelt Park Zoo and our community.

Another proposed change on the horizon is the ballot measure that is being brought to Minot citizens on June 3rd. The ballot measure will include the addition of a ½ cent sales tax with a reduction of property tax by 40 % on the Park District’s general fund. That proposal includes a property tax assessment cap on the Minot Park District’s general fund mills from 38 mills to 26 mills with a twenty-year guarantee. The addition of the ½ cent sales tax will cover the operating cost of current facilities such as Jack Hoeven Baseball Complex, Auditorium, Corbett Field, Scheels Complex, Optimist Soccer Complex, MAYSA Arena and the Roosevelt Park Zoo as well as the operations and bond payment for the proposed fieldhouse.

Currently the Minot Park District maintains 24 parks and facilities with over 1,000 acres of public property. The Park District strives to maintain these properties to the highest standards. The addition of the ½ cent sales tax and the opportunity to grow economic impact to our community will allow a portion of those dollars to go directly back into the Park District facilities for maintenance and renovations. For more information on Mapping the Future please visit www.minotparks.com/mappingthefuture.

One constant in our community is affordable summer programming offered by the Minot Park District. Summer registration is open and can be completed online at www.minotparks.com or Minot Parks App. Summer activities include t-ball, art classes, fitness gym, fast pitch softball, zoo camp, tennis, track and more! Please note that scholarships are readily available at the Minot Park District office. We are committed to keeping children active in our recreational programming regardless of financial barriers. Our team has plenty of great events lined up for you including Live at Oak Park, Fourth of July Festival, Arts in the Park, Pumpkin Walk and Loggerfest. For a full list of Minot Park Events visit https://minotparks.com/events/.

So, while it appears to be true that change is inevitable and, in many cases, intimidating. Our staff at the Minot Park District is embracing the challenges that come with the process. Our mission remains to continue to improve the quality of life for our citizens of all ages and abilities. We are grateful for our passionate and dedicated employees on all levels because they are truly what keeps our parks and facilities running smoothly for the Minot community.

We are excited for the road ahead at the Minot Park District. On June 3rd our community will tell us which route to take into our future. Regardless of the route decided, the Minot Park District will continue to learn from the past, be engaged in the present and plan for the future.

ROosevelt Park Flood Control Construction Updates

There will be limited access to Roosevelt Park with only one access point coming off 8th Street SE. The access will remain open with a temporary road put in place to ensure accessibility to the Roosevelt Park Pool and as well as the Roosevelt Park Pickleball Courts.

Pickleball courts will remain open as construction allows. Check our social media platforms for any unexpected closures. Port-a-potties will be available during construction.

Roosevelt Park Playground and Skate Park will be closed for the summer 2025 season. There will be a construction fence around the area of Roosevelt Park that is accessible to the public.

Construction will begin on relocation of new enclosures for the North American trail animals at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. North portion of the Zoo across the bridge will be closed.

Safety is the number one priority for our park patrons and over the next several months we will ask our community for some grace and patience as we navigate this project. Please stay tuned to our website at www.minotparks.com, Facebook Page and Minot Parks App to keep up with disruptions to operations during this phase of construction.

More information about MI-7 and the future of Roosevelt Park can be found at www.minotparks.com and www.mouseriverplan.com

Minot Parks received a generous donation from Minot Noon Rotary of 12 kayaks, life jackets, and paddles. With this donation, we are now able to offer kayak rentals to the Minot Community.
