GUESTSEATUPDINNERONTHEPRAIRIE
There’s no doubt farm to table dinners have been fan favorites around the country Whether it’s great local food, beautiful settings or just a unique dining experience What if it’s all the above and an opportunity to meet the men and women behind the scenes – right here in Minot
On August 1, more than 230 guests experienced the 3rd Dinner on the Prairie hosted by the Minot Area Chamber EDC Agribusiness committee More than a meal, it was an educational dining experience that included sample crops, agricultural and food facts, a Q&A panel with producers and 40 farmers and ranchers from nearly every area of North Dakota agriculture who answered questions about their products, their job, their farms and general questions guests had about how food is produced and where it comes from.
This event was newly expanded this year thanks to the new partnership with the Minot Area Chamber EDC and Town & Country Credit Union stepping up as a presenting sponsor allowing the event to be expanded and add many more guests and producers. Fred Beuchler, co-chair of the committee and EVP Chief Lending Officer with Town & Country Credit Union had this to say, “This is the second year that I’ve helped with this event and I’ve watched it grow into a powerful dialogue between producers and consumers about where food comes from and highlight the passion that farmers and ranchers have for what they do I’m proud to work at an organization that took up the role as the Presenting Sponsor Agriculture is in our DNA and we understand the significance of agriculture to this region and to North Dakota ”
In fact, agriculture is a core economic pillar of our region An NDSU study in 2022 reported that agriculture has a $30 8 billion economic contribution to the ND economy and contributes 110,480 jobs for a total of 24 2% of ND’s value-added economy The Minot region is home to not just a farming economy, but also includes agriculture distribution, suppliers and manufacturing making it critical that residents understand the value of agriculture, to not just the economy, but to the food we eat.
People often ask, what is Dinner on the Prairie and how can I attend? This is an opportunity for local ag producers to share a multicourse meal, conversation and education with Minot community members who aren’t connected with agriculture. The meal was prepared by Chef Jeremy Mahaney of The Starving Rooster and Whiskey Nine and included nearly a half dozen appetizers, a family style meal and a dessert, all made with ND grown products, many from the local region. If you aren’t familiar with local agriculture and would like to learn more about where your food comes, you can contact carla@minotchamberedc.com to be added to the guest list for future events

MINOTAIRFORCEBASELEADERSHIPTOUR
Community leaders gathered on July 13th for a Key Leader Minot Air Force Base Tour. Participants enjoyed a mission brief from Col Daniel Hoadley, 5th Bomb Wing Commander and Col Kenneth McGhee, 91st Missile Wing Commander With Minot being the only dualwing nuclear capable base in the Air Force hosting two legs of the nuclear triad, there is a reason they say ‘Only the Best Come North’
The group also had the opportunity to view a B-52 up close and traveled to the Oscar-01 Missile Alert Facility.
The Minot Area Chamber EDC works to educate leadership at all levels as well as the public on the role Minot plays in nuclear deterrence and why protecting both missions is critically important to our national defense With over a half billion-dollar economic impact in Minot every year and over half of our state’s military economic impact in North Dakota, supporting military is one of our five key pillars at the Chamber EDC
MINOTWELCOMESFIRSTUKRAINIANS
Earlier this year, the North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) created the program called Bakken GROW (Global Recruitment of Oilfield Workers) in response to the workforce shortage issues our state is facing This program has brought several immigrants to our region, specifically from Ukraine with the new U4U (Uniting for Ukraine) U4U allows for the streamlined process that provides Ukrainian’s who have fled their country after the Russian invasion and give them an opportunity to work in the U.S.
Because of the kindness of a few of our citizens that stepped up to become sponsors, Minot welcomed three Ukrainians to our community on July 11th Two local companies in the energy sector, including SandPro and NewKota were eager to get our newcomers ready to work Keli Rosselli-Sullivan, who has served as the liaison for this initiative, states It’s a good feeling to see our community rally behind these gentlemen, from our sponsors, service clubs and interpreters to the employers willing to hire them and teach them new skills. It’s a humanitarian effort solving our workforce issues.”
One more Ukrainian newcomer landed in Minot on July 25th with four more slated to arrive around the first week in August.
If anyone is interested in helping out our newcomers with meals, please email Keli Rosselli-Sullivan with the Minot Area Chamber EDC at keli@minotchamberedc.com. The program can’t work without sponsors. If anyone is interested in becoming a sponsor, please visit ndoil org/bakken-grow

CIVICLEADERSWELCOMEHOMEBARONS FOLLOWINGBOMBERTASKFORCE DEPLOYMENT
The 23rd Bomb Squadron’s world-famous “Bomber Barons” returned home from their most recent Bomber Task Force deployment to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, July 24.
The contingent, composed of approximately 280 Airmen and four B-52H Stratofortresses, logged hundreds of flight hours from dozens of sorties within the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility during the sixweek deployment. The BTF also provided an opportunity for the squadron’s aircrews, maintainers and support personnel to integrate with various allies and partners present in the region for unrelated military exercises
“BTF is the way U S Strategic Command presents forces through U S Air Force Global Strike Command so that we can move anywhere in the world, into any theater with a small footprint and very limited notice,” explained Lt Col Ryan Loucks, 23rd Bomb Squadron BTF commander “It allows us to be strategically predictable yet operationally unpredictable ”
Strategic bomber missions like BTFs enhance the readiness and training necessary to respond to any potential crisis or challenge across the globe. Additionally, these deployments demonstrate the credibility of USSTRATCOM forces to address a global security environment that is more diverse and uncertain than at any other time in recent history.
“Our goal when we execute BTFs is to make sure we can prove bomber airpower is synonymous with any theater,” said Loucks. “We can be plugged into any theater, working directly for the combatant command and we can execute that combatant command’s objectives on call to make sure we’re ready to train and fight tonight wherever we might end up.”
The deployment also marked the first time a U S B-52H Stratofortresses landed on and operated from Indonesian soil Two aircraft and approximately 60 Airmen supporting the BTF forward deployed to Medan, Indonesia, where they sustained bomber operations for five days, resulting in unprecedented integration with Indonesian Air Force personnel in the air and on the ground
“I am extremely proud of our aircrew and our maintainers, the entire world famous bomber baron contingent that we brought out here to execute the mission,” said Loucks “We’ve flown countless hours, we’ve integrated with multiple different platforms, joint partners and other partners in the area and we’ve emerged from this BTF better than we started. I couldn’t be more proud to lead this amazing team.”

TRINITYHEALTHRECEIVESAWARD
Trinity Health has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke quality achievement award for performing best practices in caring for stroke patients
The Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke program focuses on making sure stroke patients receive appropriate care based on nationally recognized, research-based guidelines designed to save lives and reduce disability
To receive a quality achievement award, hospitals must demonstrate compliance with a prescribed percentage of quality indicators for at least 12 consecutive months
Scott Knutson, MD, Trinity Health Chief of Medical Staff, says the Silver Plus award confirms the high level of care that he sees every day at Trinity Health.
“When you’re dealing with stroke, every minute counts,” Dr. Knutson said. “That’s something our care teams know and respond to intuitively – everything kicks into higher gear. The stroke guidelines provide a kind of road map that guides our care from diagnosis to treatment to follow-up care, so patients have a better chance of having a good outcome.”
Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts When that happens, part of the brain can’t get the blood and oxygen it needs, and brain cells die Early stroke detection and treatment are keys to improving survival, minimizing disability and accelerating recovery times
As a primary stroke center and a Get With The Guidelines participant, Trinity Health has a system of stroke protocols that is activated whenever a patient presents with symptoms of a stroke Protocols include calling a stroke alert, expediting CT imaging to confirm a diagnosis, and administering swift treatment that ranges from thrombolytics (clotbusting medication) to endovascular treatment by an interventional radiology team
As always, the challenge is educating the public “Time is brain,” Dr Knutson said “We’ve built a program here that can treat patients fast and effectively, but it doesn’t matter how good a job we do if people don’t act They need to come in right away ”
People should seek treatment immediately if they experience any of the most common stroke symptoms, which can be identified using the F.A.S.T. warning signs:
F = Face Drooping – Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person's smile uneven?
A = Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S = Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred?
T = Time to Call 911 – Stroke is an emergency Every minute counts Call 911 immediately Note the time when any of the symptoms first appear

PETERSENHONOREDWITH MEMORIALPROCESSION
In the best tradition of first responders honoring their own, EMS and law enforcement personnel from a wide region – along with a throng of motorcycle enthusiasts – assembled in Minot to embark on a 50-mile journey for the funeral of EMS educator and paramedic Tami Petersen
July 25
Petersen passed away July 15 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near New Salem A celebration of life was scheduled in the Donald M Kolbo Auditorium in Mohall
First responders from Williston to Bottineau gathered in the parking lot north of Trinity Health West The procession was set to depart at 8 a m By 7:30 the lot was overflowing with vehicles and well-wishers “It’s great,” said Police Capt Jason Sundbakken of the Minot PD, which helped organize the procession “We expected to have 20 to 25 ambulances, up to 200 motorcycles a lot of law enforcement units, so it’s a great turnout She had an impact on everybody ”
Petersen began her career with Mohall Ambulance Service and started teaching at St Joseph’s Hospital in Minot in 1992 She was a key figure in educating EMTs not only in the northwest region but the entire state She devoted volunteer time on various state and regional EMS boards and committees and served as NW Director for the ND EMS Association for many years She continued to work in EMS education at Trinity Health Recently she had taken a position with the City of Minot’s Dispatch Center and became an official member of Minot Rural Fire Department
