LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

TAKING US BACK TO THE PERSONAL TOUCH Think back to before cell phones, airline travel, automobile travel and Facetime. Our transactions were face to face. And we built strong relationships with the vendors who worked for us and people with whom we worked. I am by no means suggesting that we do away with the technological advances we’ve created but I do have a mission in my year thus far as President of MAB, and that is to highlight and reinforce the personal touch. You still see emails from our Association and make sure to check our website for regular activities but know that I have yet to miss a board meeting and I try to make my face seen as much as possible as president. There is great value in meeting face-to-face, eye-to-eye. Sometimes, email is a quick substitute for an easy conversation. So let’s do this together, builders, remodelers and associates! Make a commitment to get active in MAB and meet me and the rest of our board of directors!

I look forward to seeing you at the Birdie with the Builders Golf Tournament, the Guns ‘n’ Roses Trap Shoot and the Parade of Homes!

Chris Dahl 2017 MAB President

MEMO FROM THE EO

DON’T MISS THE PARADE OF HOMES! But first, there’s the Guns ‘n’ Roses Trap Shoot. The Birdie with the Builders Golf Tournament has wrapped up and the summer is winding down but MAB is still going strong through the fall! Make sure to sign up for the Guns ‘n’ Roses Trap Shoot on August 29th. We’ve got a night jam-packed with events while you wait to shoot. Spend an evening on the range with the Minot Association of Builders and before you head home, purchase a dozen roses for your someone special for $20. Then on September 16th, the second annual Parade of Homes is coming back to Minot! We anticipate a warm September weekend and even warmer reception as community members are eager to experience the style and function of new construction in Minot and the surrounding areas. We’ve got a great roster of homes this year and are so excited to continue the Parade tradition in our town. Explore homes on September 16th from 10 AM to 4 PM. See new trends, talk with local builders and make the dream of becoming a homeowner, a reality!

We’ve got a few other new events up our sleeve for the rest of the year and will start making announcements soon! The MAB Homefront | 4 | August 2017

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT MAB? A WHOLE LOT!

SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPERS FORUM

Members of the building community and city leaders met for two hours on Monday, July 24th to discuss issues facing local builders. Primary topics of concern were strict zoning ordinances that lead to expensive building costs that hinder builders, the lengthy permit process and communication between the City and builders. MAB was well represented well with several MAB board members involved in the discussions. MAB will continue to be included in talks with city leaders as these issues are resolved and keep our members up to date. If any members have input regarding how local ordinances are affecting them or their businesses, please contact Elysha at contact@minotab.com.

Presidents Message

Goodbye July, Hello August!

Last month, I talked about the legislative conferences in Washington DC. Now I would like to talk about our state meeting that we had in Williston just over a week after we returned from DC. First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone in Williston for their hospitality. They did a fantastic job hosting the meetings and the social.

July brought the heat and we hope that August holds onto it. ND summers are already too short and August means that school is going to be starting soon for many. I know, the dreaded S word for kids while parents are celebrating and counting down the days to the return of some normal, yet extremely busy, schedules.

Speaking of schedules, NAHB's International Builders Show (IBS) is scheduled to be held Schneider January 9-11 in Orlando, FL. We do hope that Eric Brenden We kicked off the meetings on Tuesday Kim NDAB President with our NDAB-PAC meeting. As most of NDAB Executive Officer you are planning to attend, or at least it. If you are new to IBS, we can connect getting those candidates elected. After the PAC meeting you with Builders or Associates who will walk you through the schedule and help advise which education sessions, committee Ken Callahan and Bob Horab arranged a bus tour where we visited a few sites around Williston, and we were able meetings and socials are best to attend. The 30th Annual PAC Golf Tournament was hosted July 11 by the HBA and Realtors associations.

The BMHBA caught the media’s attention with its Kids Building Mandan event and the unveiling of a new building exhibit at the Gateway to Science Center.

Board members bypassed their standing meeting and instead led children in a building exercise as part of the Lunch with Heroes program in July.

The Sporting Clays Shoot is scheduled for Aug. 3. “South of the Border” is the theme of this year’s event.

The DABA Golf Scramble will be August 10th at the Heart River Golf Course. This year we are teaming up with Sax Motors to do a Hole-In -One contest. Every player will have the chance to win a brand new Chevy Silverado work truck! We are excited for this event and expect a great turnout! We are working out the plans for our 2nd Parade of Homes which will be September 9th and 10th . The committee is working hard to make this another great event! We still have ad space and sponsorship opportunities available. We would like to thank our Presenting Sponsors Bosch Lumber & Bremer Bank, our Major Sponsors Liberty Doors, www.ndbuild.com

of 2017. We want to welcome Cassie Thompson who will be filling the position.

The HBA of F-M's sold-out July Golf Outing began with Bloody Marys thanks to Hirshfield's Paints. Members enjoyed a hot day of golf with fun games and networking. A delicious taco bar and cupcakes finished off a hard day's work on the golf course.

Contractors stopped by the HBA of F-M July 26 for the Muddy Boots Picnic to enjoy a free lunch. Members volunteered their time to sit in the Home Builders Care Foundation Dunk Tank, which raised money for the HBA's charity.

The Associate Appreciation & Family Picnic is Aug. 10 at Rheault Farm. This picnic is held to celebrate Associate Appreciation Month. A free cook-out, drinks and dessert are served and bouncy house games are available for the kids!
