The golfing world seemed to will Sergio over the line and in doing so he finally lost the tag of best golfer never to win a major championship. It all looked to be slipping away from him on the 13th after a misplaced tee shot but with some scintillating approach shots over the last few holes, he managed to drag himself into a playoff with the ever impressive Justin Rose. Garcia then took his chance by making birdie at the first playoff hole to secure his place in history on the day that would have seen his fellow Spaniard and hero Seve turn 60. A fitting tribute if ever there was one.
