Junior Explorers & Explorers

For children age 33 months (3 by September 1, 2023) through grade 5

Summer Explorers is a flexible, full-day childcare program. Featuring a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational activities and weekly field trips, the Minnetonka Explorers Summer program ensures your child will have a fun, active summer. Throughout the summer, children will participate in a wide variety of activities such as art, music, science projects, cooking, games, writing, reading, crafts, outdoor play, computers, practicing social skills, gym time, dramatic play and much more! There is a balance of activity options that includes large group, small group and individual choices.

Benefits of Summer Explorers and Junior Explorers include:

» Held at the Minnetonka Community Education Center

» 2 days/week every week minimum for registration

Junior Explorers & Explorers Childcare- School Year 2023-24

School Year 2023-24

Explorers, including Junior Explorers, provides high quality before- and after-school childcare for students age 3 to grade 5. During the school year, families have flexible enrollment options including before and/or after school 2-5 days per week. Explorers is open from 6:30 am to 6 pm to accommodate the schedule of working parents and has full day programming on non-school days. Junior Explorers is located at MCEC and Explorers is conveniently located in all Minnetonka elementary schools.

Junior Explorers (Age 3 by Sept. 1- Age 5)

Families may choose a half day or full day Junior Explorers for their child at MCEC (age 3-5). For children enrolled in Minnetonka Preschool, families can combine high quality childcare with a world-class preschool. Staff accompany children between programs and ensure they are supervised at all times.

Options for families with children ages 3-5 include:

» Before AM Preschool (6:30-9 am) or after PM Preschool (3-6 pm)

» Opposite Preschool (6:30 am-1 pm or 11 am-6 pm)

» Full Day (6:30 am-6 pm)

» Non-School Days*

Explorers (Kindergarten-Grade 5)

Explorers is available as an extension of your child’s school day. Before- and after-school and non-school day* childcare is offered at each Minnetonka elementary school.

* Child must be actively enrolled in Explorers to be eligible for care on non-school days.

About QUEST

Quest is a flexible, experience-based summer program that encourages middle school students to explore the world around them in a fun, structured and safe environment. Each week we will embark on exciting adventures that focus on building independence, learning important life skills, connecting with their community and most importantly, having fun! Some of the adventures your kids will experience each week include:

Community Exploration: Whether it’s going on a field trip, biking our cool trail system or participating in a service learning project, your child will make connections and experience all the exciting people and places that make our community a great place!

Outdoor Adventures: Students will be immersed in many of the great outdoor activities Minnesota has to offer! Adventures include swimming at local beaches, exploring local parks and other field trips as allowable.

Online registration for Quest has moved to our childcare module and will be similar to Explorers registration. There is a $50 registration fee with the creation of a contract and a $10 fee for any contract changes. Seven business day notice is required for all adds and withdrawals. Billing will be done weekly on the Thursday before the week starts. Please call 952-401-6800 with any registration questions.

Kids will learn what it’s like to have a horse for a day! Campers get to ride in the indoor and/ or outdoor arenas for 40min-50min (no trails), practice how to steer, stop, turn, and walk on their own. They also might make horse treats, do a craft, and play games. And don’t forget the time to meet and care for the horses, which is a big part of ownership! Campers are broken into smaller groups based on similar riding experience and age, which is perfect for both new and more experienced riders!
