EMPTY FRAME Taichung Overpass Competiton 空 . 孔 – 台中綠空鐵道軸線設計競圖

"The Origins of Taichung City - The Railway" Taichung city is developed from the railway and its peripheral area, which was originally used to ship raw materials such as sugar, iron, rice, and wine, but now this city has become the most vital transportation hub in central Taiwan.

However, as the city centre shifted, the central parts of Taichung and areas around the train station have experienced urban decay, leaving an "Empty Frame" as a result of its fast expansion.

"Elevated Railway - The Possibility of Urban Sewing" The purpose of “Taichung Urban District Elevated Railway Project” , which launched in 2006, aims to solve the issue of uneven development between the front and rear station areas,. Besides that, this program also attempts to promote new opportunities in the regions by land readjustment and redevelopment.

Position of the future plan

Whether it is elevated railway or land readjustment, it can only fix superficial problems, such as the traffic circulation and connecting the outskirts of the city; however, it’s inefficient at developing a region without any regional planning. Therefore, we should reposition the overall city planning of these areas, preserving the memory that connects and resonates with the urban culture as well as integrating future city landscape.

"The Urban Fabric of Centennial Railway - The Embankment and Underpass " In the past, the railway in the city was designed as a “three-dimensional engineering” to layer circulations with several different elevations; the underpass for cars or what people called “lu-kong”, and the embankment for trains called” loo-khang” (in Taiwanese).

"Filled the Flat Frame with the Three-dimensional Space"

In an urban perspective, this type of deserted space can be regarded as an empty hole, surrounded by the roads in the city context, creating an “Empty Frame”. Our design concept is to reconnect the site to the old town areas and bring the railway’s historic back to the site, by transforms the spaces of the railway such as the embankment and underpass into the sense of space.

"The Core of Urban Revitalization - Railway Ancillary Building” “The beauty of Taichung railway is forever lost in history.”

For a hundred years, people have been taken by trains through the mountains and rivers, cross the rural, and into the towns.

Without the embankment’s view, urban identity will be lost.

The RAB’s purpose is to bring the identity of Taichung back to the city and reconnect the site to the urban’s nodes.

PORT OF TAKAO Kaohsiung Blue-Green Solutions 港物所 – 後工業港灣綠地再生策略

"Before The City - The Si Shih Jia Industrial Area" The site is located at Kaohsiung harbour, which was the first place developing the heavy-chemical industry named Si Shih Jia area. Although these factories provide a lot of job opportunities and economic benefits, the connectivity between the city and the port is divided by the industrial area.

After 1990, factories are shifted to northern Kaohsiung due to the policy of the government and air pollution problem people protest, the industry in harbour area starts to decayed.

Therefore, the ”Kaohsiung Multifunctional Commerce and Trade Park” was born.

"Urban Challenge - Discontinuous Green System" Originally, the plan should be regarded as an important indicator for the long-term development of a region, but it has many shortcomings in its thinking about urban development, especially the green space.

Changes in extreme weather and climate events, such as typhoons and droughts, are the primary way that most people experience climate change.

Over the last 50 years, Human-induced climate change has already increased the number and strength of some of these extreme events.

Flood systems were designed to withstand a 1 in 50 year flood, and the deluge from Fanapi was previously estimated to occur only once every 200 years; after the storm, the government began the process of reviewing the standards.

The disaster resulted in 677 deaths, 4 severely injured, and 22 missing persons, as well as an additional 25 bodies that were not identified. The record-breaking rains also caused catastrophic agricultural losses, with estimates reaching NT$9 billion. (US$274 million).

Before the overall planning, the urban space must be classified into developed and undeveloped areas.

For these g reen blocks with different properties, we formulate the different standards of space in the city.

Reconnect the interrupted green belt and reconnect the border between the city and the port.

To repair the pollution of brownfields, we designed a recycling system to solve heavy metal pollution and water reuse.

Combine the engineering and ecological remediation to promote the process of soil remediation.

In the next 50 years, the system will continue to operate until the pollution remediation is completed.

"The Renewable Resource Development & Water Cycle Solutions Network" The annual rainfall of Kaohsiung city is twice higher than the world average, but the dry period is as long as 5 to 8 months.

This result in the water resource that can be used efficiently in the urban area is less more than the total annual rainfall. This system combines a series of engineering and ecosystems to establish a sustainable energy chain that can store and reuse water resources.

濱海軸線原是臨海工業區的腹地，在這裡我們建置了一條貫穿基地南北海岸的自行車高架橋，除了 供給人與自行車安全與更好的通道景觀，也能透過橋體連結未來特七商業大樓，以讓人們與海岸能 更方便且快速發生關係，同時橋下空間能與預留的大片草坪空間結合成為優良的戶外休憩空間，在 有需要時能在橋下舉辦市集或活動。

五號運河原是十字型的運河，後來在因應城市發展因而將其中一段運河填平作為道路使用，面對未來城市的需求，我們重新將河水打開，透過藍綠的交會， 將這裡重新打造成新的城市自然空間，並結合微型濕地來淨化水源，配合周邊的社區型塑一個良好的通道。

觀景鋼橋位於五號運河與港區交界，是原臨海工業區的棕地場址，濱海 軸線與水岸的交會點，此處作為河與港之間最重要的邊界綠地，我們將 這裡設定為海港地景與城市歷史脈絡結合的新地標所在，串連起東西向 與南北向的人本空間系統，使此區成為整個多功區最重要的翻轉意象所 在。

DAMEISHA SEASIDE PARK Planning and Design Competition 大梅沙海濱公園概念規劃設計國際競圖

"Chapter 1 - After Extreme Natural Disasters" Dameisha is one of the important components of the gateway to the coastal area of Shenzhen, which is designated to be a public facility in planning.

In 2018, the base was hit hard by Typhoon Mangroves. The role of typhoon waves brings two serious disasters in the Dameisha sea area, one is coastal erosion, and the other is the flooding after the embankment caused by the waves.

"Solution - the New Belt of Resilient Coastline" The renovation of the park will -Solve the issues of outdated facilities, the impact of extreme climate and ecological uniformity: 1. Reshape stable and resilient seashore park landscape; 2. Rejuvenate the park into a spot of Shenzhen city leisure; 3. Lead the Shenzhen East Golden Triangle down to the pathway to sustainable development.

The role of typhoon waves brings two serious disasters in the Dameisha sea area, one is coastal erosion, and the other is the flooding after the embankment caused by the waves.

The various functional sections around the site face different levels of customer groups, and the sections are relatively independent and lack linkage. The current tourism products are mostly resource-based and have a high degree of homogeneity.

Products of experience are scarce at the site, how to solve the seasonality issue of tourism market become the primary issues.

Disaster reduction is the most important goal.

The submerged reef, the island reef and the cape coast on the seabed form the first line of defence, generating broken waves and rich marine life.

The embankment and the wetland from the second line of defence, creating an ecological belt and places for leisure.

The connecting bank, at 5.5 meters above the sea level, is the last protection to ensure safety.

T he main trail of the park connects a series of functional space.

From the north to the south exhibits the Community Park, the Green Roof Plaza, the Grand Terrace, the Tropical Rainforest Reserve, the Weekend Market, the Square Stand, as well as a connected seaside path to the beach for activities, the swimming pool and the waterside church.

More than a park, the Dameisha Waterfront Park, with brand new facilities, new features and a variety of activities, is the new city stage to come!

TIAN LIAO RIVER Waterfront Space Design Proposal 田寮河二期水環境改善規劃設計計畫

"Introduction - The First Artificial Canal in Taiwan" The Tianliao River is the first artificial canal in Taiwan, with a record of excavation a hundred years ago. The length of the river is about 3.5 kilometres, and the drainage basin is about 431 ha which passes through Xinyi District and Renai District.

In recent years, with changes in economic growth and urban population concentration, the sewage of city has been discharged into the Tianliao River without purification, making the water turbid and smelly, also hard to get close.

"Present - The Most Polluted River in Keelung" "From Keelung port to the city, finally into mountains and rivers." Tianliao River is still a vital part of the Keelung landscape and image today.

Therefore, the main target of this project is to solve the problem of sewage discharge and improve the landscape space on both sides of the banks at the same time.

"Water Quality and Environment Improvement" In recent years, Keelung City has tried to change the original appearance of the city whose a messy water environment and old infrastructure.

Several public space improvement plans were proposed, and then extended all the way east to the urban area.

"Urban Link - The Eastward Development Plan" The Tianliao River is the most vital link between the port area and the city boundary, the positioning of the canal is not only a floodway between cities but also an important corridor that carried the culture of the city and the sense of place. Travellers in Keelung usually enter from the port area, visit the city, and then go into the mountains and rivers around Keelung.

Therefore, the Tianliao River is a part of the landscape that can achieve Keelung's image.

FLOWING GARDEN Waterway Landscape Greening Project 流動的山水城 - 台州頭門港河道綠化方案

"Introduction - New Development Zone in the Port" The base is located in Toumen Port, Taizhou, Which is a part of the new development area for life functions of the port.

This area is made by reclamation, about 26 ha and supports the possibility of development of mixed-use residential buildings.

"The Artificial City Context - Import Old Culture into New Area" The blocks are made by reclamation, lacking the foundation of historical and cultural context.

To make the landscape more integrated into the area, we introduced the culture of the surrounding cities into the waterway greening of the overall planning.

Besides, the scenery of the river will also become a new image of the future city when people come into it.

The river is located at the border of Jiangnan region where has a distinctive scenery of landscape context. Zhu Ming, a painter famous for whose beautiful landscape painting, had painted the scenery of Jiangnan Water Village in detail, we transform its paintings into the real scale of landscape spaces and make rivers become a feature waterway.

"Introduction - Infrastr ucture Oriented Development" Liuchuan runs from north to south through the centre of Taichung City, with an overall length of 27 kilometres, and have a total population of 435,877 in its watershed.

It's one of the most vital regional drainage systems in the city, with the neighbourhood population around 60,323, counting to 10% of the overall downtown population.

The first stage is to plan, analyze the segment of 7.5 kilometres, from Jiushe Park to Nantun Bridge 1.7 kilometres of planning segment from Minquan Bridge to Nantun Bridge is also undergo detailed design.
