New Video Series Highlights Driver Experiences The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has launched a new video interview series featuring members of the WIT Image Team, a group of professional female drivers who serve as industry ambassadors and advocates.

“Topics range from navigating life behind the wheel and balancing personal responsibilities to career growth, mentorship, and industry advocacy all through the personal experiences of professional drivers,” says Fall.

The series continues WIT’s commitment to elevating authentic voices from behind the wheel by sharing the real-life experiences of women in trucking, according to Jenny Fall WIT’s Director of Driver Engagement.

Summer is a season many of us look forward to—longer days, family road trips, backyard barbecues, and the simple joy of being on the open road.

Yet, as traffic increases and highways are filled with vacationers and commercial vehicles alike, it is also a time to pause and remember that safety must remain at the center of every journey.

At Women In Trucking Association (WIT), we see firsthand the passion, professionalism and dedication of the drivers who keep our economy moving.

These women and men play an essential role in delivering the goods that support our daily lives, and they deserve—and require—our shared commitment to safe roadways.

Through our safety education and outreach efforts, we continue to

emphasize how passenger vehicle drivers and commercial drivers can work together to make the roads safer, particularly in high times of travel during summer months.

Over this past Memorial Day weekend, in fact, there were nearly 40 million people on the nation’s roadways, and more on the July 4 holiday weekend.

We are also proud of initiatives like the Women In Trucking Image Team, whose members serve as ambassadors for the industry. They help elevate awareness of trucking careers, promote positive industry representation, and reinforce the importance of safety and professionalism behind the wheel. We are excited to introduce you to our newest members of the Image Team very soon.

The industry is moving more freight while producing fewer emissions per ton-mile. In fact, global trucking emissions intensity declined by 14% between 2019 and 2023, driven largely by fuel-efficiency improvements and early adoption of lower-carbon technologies, according to World Economic Forum’s 2024 Net-Zero Industry Tracker.

Yet for many for-hire and private fleets, the path forward is far from straightforward.

The trucking industry finds itself in what many experts call the “messy middle,” a period where traditional diesel equipment remains essential, emerging technologies continue to mature, and carriers must balance environmental objectives with operational realities. Success today is not about choosing a single solution. Rather, it requires a practical, multi-faceted approach that combines alternative fuels, operational excellence, and strategic expertise.

Trends in AlternativePowered Vehicles In today’s challenging geopolitical environment and with rising diesel prices, companies are increasingly exploring alternative fuel solutions.

“While renewed interest in this area is promising, it’s important to recognize that developing a robust fuel strategy can take years,” says Rob Rob McNeil McNeil, Senior Vice President, Sales & Supply Chain with TA Dedicated, a provider of truckload transportation services through a portfolio of dry van, flatbed and tanker equipment. “Organizations that have been consistently evaluating their fuel approach are now benefiting from flexible options that help shield them from the volatility of diesel prices. For those considering a transition, now is an ideal time to begin, but they should be prepared for the significant research, time, and resources required to find the right partners and solutions.”

The conversation around sustainable trucking often focuses heavily on electric vehicles (EVs). In fact, 65% of mediumduty trucks and 49% of heavy-duty trucks are already electrifiable today based on real-world duty cycles, according to the North American Council for Freight continued on page 8

Efficiency’s recently released report, Run on Less – Messy Middle, Forecasting the TCO of Powertrain Alternatives: The Messy Middle Cost. A corporate member of the Women In Trucking Association (WIT), NACFE works to drive the development and adoption of efficiency enhancing, environmentally beneficial, and costeffective technologies, services, and operational practices in the movement of goods across North America.

Clean Harbors maintains a Top-15 trucking fleet in North America, with 20,000+ combined fleet assets across the company.

EVs are becoming increasingly viable for specific applications, particularly in last-mile delivery, regional haul operations, and dedicated routes where charging infrastructure can be strategically deployed. Advancements in battery technology, charging networks, and vehicle range are expanding the use cases for electric trucks. However, widespread adoption across long-haul trucking remains constrained by infrastructure availability, charging times, vehicle costs, and range limitations. For many fleets, electric vehicles represent an important component of a broader sustainability strategy rather than a complete replacement for conventional equipment.

However, the industry’s transition involves a much broader range of technologies and fuel options: Renewable Natural Gas. RNG has emerged as one of the most viable near-term solutions for reducing transportation emissions. Produced from organic waste sources such as landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, and agricultural operations, RNG can significantly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions while utilizing existing natural gas infrastructure. For fleets operating predictable routes and returning to centralized facilities, RNG-powered trucks offer a practical pathway to sustainability without the charging infrastructure challenges associated with battery-electric vehicles. continued on page 9

While not a zeroemission solution, CNG can reduce certain emissions compared to traditional diesel and provides a bridge technology for organizations seeking incremental sustainability improvements while maintaining operational flexibility.

Thriving in the “Messy Middle”

NACFE describes the current period as the “Messy Middle,” a complex transition from diesel-dominated operations to a zero-emission future. This phase is characterized by matching the appropriate technology or fuel solutions to each operational need. Customers are increasingly interested in identifying which fuel options—such as electric, RNG, CNG, biodiesel, and hydrogen—best suit their requirements, and are collaborating with partners to test and implement these alternatives.

For fleet operators, this creates complex decision-making challenges: Which technologies warrant investment today? How quickly should fleets transition equipment? How can sustainability goals be achieved without compromising service or profitability? What solutions make sense for different freight networks?

The answer for many organizations is not an all-or-nothing approach.

Instead, fleets are adopting phased sustainability strategies that combine incremental improvements with targeted investments.

A carrier may deploy electric trucks for local routes, utilize RNGpowered equipment for regional operations, and continue operating highly efficient diesel equipment for long-haul freight.

TA Dedicated is using BEV yard trucks to minimize its operations impact on the environment.

This pragmatic approach acknowledges that sustainability is a journey rather than a single technology decision.

The most successful companies are focusing on measurable progress rather than perfection. They recognize that reducing emissions today—even incrementally—can create meaningful environmental benefits while positioning their organizations for future innovations.

Best Practices: Sustainability Starts with Better Operations While alternative fuels and new technologies often generate headlines, some of the most impactful sustainability improvements come from optimizing existing operations. In many cases, the cleanest mile is the mile that never has to be driven.

Fleets rely on data, analytics, and efficiency gains to justify operations and prove business value internally, notes Mike Roeth, NACFE’s Executive Director.

Other strategies focus around: Route Optimization. Advanced routing and planning technologies enable carriers to reduce unnecessary miles, Mike Roeth improve asset utilization, and minimize fuel consumption. By leveraging real-time data, traffic intelligence, and predictive analytics, fleets can identify more efficient routes, reduce idle time, and improve delivery performance simultaneously. The result: lower emissions and lower operating costs.

Maximizing Backhaul Opportunities.

Empty miles remain one of the industry’s greatest inefficiencies. Filling backhaul opportunities allows carriers to increase trailer utilization while reducing the number of trucks needed to move the same amount of freight. Strategic network planning, freight matching technologies, and stronger shipper collaboration can significantly reduce empty mileage and associated emissions. For many fleets, improving backhaul performance delivers immediate sustainability gains without requiring major capital investments.

Improving Asset Utilization. Higher equipment utilization means more freight moved with fewer resources.

Leading carriers are using transportation management systems, telematics, and network optimization tools to improve trailer turns, increase load consolidation, and maximize fleet productivity. These efforts not only enhance profitability but also reduce fuel consumption and emissions per shipment.

Reducing Idle Time. Idle reduction programs continue to be one of the simplest and most effective sustainability initiatives available. Driver training, automated engine shutdown systems, auxiliary power units, and improved operational planning can dramatically reduce unnecessary fuel consumption while extending vehicle life.

“Practices such as supply chain engineering, offering driver fuel efficiency incentives, and adopting more efficient truck specifications are being closely examined to enhance operational efficiency and reduce carbon footprints,” emphasizes McNeil. “TA Dedicated has worked with many customers in the past year to improve their fuel consumption and transportation costs, namely with a health care company who optimized and consolidated their operations, resulting in fuel cost savings of 24%, an automotive OEM who saved over $600k per quarter in fuel costs, and another automotive customer who deployed battery electric yard trucks which eliminated over 28,000 gallons of diesel and avoided 74 metric tons of carbon output.”

The Road Ahead The future of sustainable trucking will not be defined by a single fuel, vehicle type, or technology platform. Instead, it will be shaped by a combination of innovation, operational excellence, and practical decision-making.

As the industry navigates the complexities of the messy middle, fleets have an opportunity to make meaningful progress today through a balanced approach that combines alternative fuels, emerging technologies, and continuous operational improvement.

Sustainability is no longer simply about compliance or corporate responsibility.

It has become a business strategy that drives efficiency, strengthens customer relationships, and positions organizations for long-term success.

For trucking companies willing to embrace both innovation and practicality, the road to sustainability is already underway.

WIT Members Lead in Sustainability Initiatives Sustainability initiatives reduce emissions, improve fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and ensure the industry can meet growing freight demand while minimizing environmental impact. Here are several examples of WIT members leading the way.

ArcBest has doubled the number of electric yard tractors in its LTL network and recently collaborated with Chevron and Cummins to pilot a Cummins X15N engine in its ABF network, using renewable natural gas.

Clean Harbors regularly reviews fleet routing to reduce the total number of miles driven and incorporates its own SKSS re-refined base oil products into vehicle maintenance programs. In 2023 alone, more than 92 thousand gallons of re-refined base oil-derived products were utilized by its fleet, avoiding nearly 500 metric tons of greenhouse gases.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services has arguably one of the most quantifiable sustainability impacts in North American freight by converting over-the-road truck freight to intermodal rail service, reducing empty miles, and surpassing the halfway point toward its goal of reducing carbon emissions intensity 32% by 2034 from a 2019 baseline.

Schneider became the first major carrier to surpass 6 million zero-emission miles with its battery-electric truck fleet, and integrates sustainability across operations through emissions reduction, fuel efficiency, intermodal transportation, and alternative-fuel vehicles.

UPS operates more than 18,300 alternative-fuel and advanced-technology vehicles globally and has invested in alternative fuels for more than 20 years. The company uses RNG as a core decarbonization strategy and has reduced lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared with diesel.

Trailblazer Ingrid Brown Named Driver of Year

DRIVER OF THE YEAR

After 46 years behind the wheel and at the forefront of trucking industry advocacy, Ingrid Brown reached a career-defining milestone March 27 when she stepped onto the stage at WIT’s Salute to Women Behind the Wheel event in Louisville, KY to accept the 2026 Driver of the Year award. The prestigious annual award, sponsored this year by Walmart, recognizes exceptional female professional driver whose leadership, safety record, and service elevate the trucking industry.

“We are proud to recognize Ingrid, whose tireless commitment to excellence, safety, and empowering women in this industry sets a standard that inspires us all,” says Jennifer Hedrick, CAE, WIT President and CEO.

Ingrid’s Story: Survivor, Mentor, Champion for Safety Brown’s career is nothing short of extraordinary—spanning owner-operator success, fleet operations leadership, and hauling specialized freight. Starting out as an Independent Owner-Operator of Rollin’ B LLC, she currently serves as Operations Manager and Corporate Driver for Blackjack Express LLC, hauling heavy, oversize, and refrigerated freight.

She has mentored countless drivers, and has earned top honors across the industry, including the National Association of Small Trucking Companies (NASTC) Woman Driver of the Year Award, the TA Petro Citizen Driver Award, and Inaugural Inductee at the Mid-America Trucking Show Wall of Fame. A three-time melanoma cancer survivor and longtime WIT leader, Brown exemplifies resilience, professionalism, and dedication to advancing the industry.

Her commitment to safety and trucking advocacy has been highlighted by her peers, WIT, and industry leaders. A charter member of the WIT since 2007 and legacy member of the WIT Image Team for nearly nine years, Brown is no stranger to collaborating with top policy-makers in the U.S. trucking industry.

Years ago, she was a representative and truck driver advocate with Trucker Nation, an industry group dedicated to educating, motivating, and empowering professional truck drivers to use their voices and engage constructively on issues affecting the trucking industry. This advocacy group was co-founded by well-known country music star and professional truck driver Tony Justice.

In 2015, Brown began collaborating closely with FMCSA on safety issues and potential regulatory solutions through personal relationship-building, individual conversations, and advocacy listening sessions. Her insights in support of Trucker

Named 2026 WIT Driver of the Year, Ingrid Brown’s career is nothing short of extraordinary—spanning owner-operator success, fleet operations leadership, and hauling specialized freight.

Nation provided meaningful feedback from a driver perspective on critical matters such as hours-of-service (HOS) proposals and electronic logging devices (ELDs) ultimately provided useful perspectives to FMCSA to create informed policy around safety.

Along with many other voices in the driver community, Brown’s advocacy on important issues has helped to support FMCSA’s Our Roads, Our Safety® campaign. The agency first introduced this influential campaign in August 2016 as a national safety initiative to raise awareness about sharing the road safely with large trucks.

FEATURE: WIT Driver of the Year In 2019, Brown was the agency’s face and voice for driver safety through a campaign of national billboards, print and public service announcements (PSAs). Today it’s a series of campaigns that help raise awareness about sharing the road safely and reducing crashes involving large trucks on U.S. roadways through safe driving behaviors.

In 2021, she participated in FMCSA’s Safety Summit, an event that brought together industry, government, and subject matter experts to improve commercial motor vehicle safety through collaboration, new technologies, and best practices.

Brown has used her strong voice, expertise behind the wheel, and skills in collaboration to build relationships with influential government policy stakeholders as Jim Mullen (former Acting Administrator and Chief Counsel of FMCSA), Raymond Martinez (former Senior Advisor at the U.S. DOT and former FMCSA Administrator), and Joe DeLorenzo, former FMCSA Acting Associate Administrator.

This year, the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) recognizes one such leader by naming Aurélie Doucette, Vice President of Dedicated Contract Carriage Operations at Penske Logistics, the recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award (DWLA).

The award, sponsored by Truck Parking Club and presented during the TIA Capital Ideas Conference and Exhibition, celebrates leaders whose influence extends beyond their organizations and across the broader supply chain. Doucette was selected for her commitment to operational excellence, servant leadership, and her unwavering dedication to mentoring and advancing women in transportation and logistics.

She was chosen from an accomplished group of finalists that included Eileen Dabrowski, CEO of Apex Tide Consulting, and Erin Mitchell, Chief Operating Officer of YMX Logistics.

Doucette’s logistics career spans 25 years, beginning as a traffic coordinator with Transfreight. Following the company’s acquisition by Penske Logistics, she continued her leadership journey, steadily advancing through the organization to her current role overseeing Penske Logistics’ Southeast Dedicated Contract Carriage business.

“WIT on the Road” Events Bring Inspiration and Connection In recent months, Women In Trucking Association’s (WIT) WIT on the Road regional events have brought together professionals in the trucking industry to connect, learn, and grow. Events in Birmingham, AL, and Thomasville, NC, brought together professionals committed to advancing women in trucking through education, networking, and shared experiences.

Event in Alabama Highlights Leadership, Career Growth On April 29, trucking professionals from across the Southeast gathered at McLeod Software’s headquarters in Birmingham, AL, for a half-day event focused on leadership, professional development, and the power of community.

The morning opened with remarks from Tracy Rushing, WIT Membership

Committee Vice Chair and Executive Director of Safety and Recruiting at R.E. Garrison Trucking, alongside McLeod Software President and CEO Tom McLeod.

He delivered the keynote presentation, “From the Driver Seat to the C-Suite,” underscoring that leadership opportunities exist at every level of trucking.

Attendees participated in a variety of engaging sessions designed to showcase different pathways into trucking careers.

During a fireside chat on education, moderated by Meribeth Gilbert, Vice President of Human Resources at McLeod Software, panelists explored how education and workforce development create opportunities throughout the industry. Briana Morgan, Diesel Technician and CDL Instructor at Wallace State; Susan Seymour, Assistant Director of Membership and Events at the Alabama Trucking Association; and Missy Wright,

“The WIT on the Road event was exactly what I needed,” says Wright. “It was a wonderful opportunity to step away from the demands of a busy schedule and hear inspiring stories and achievements from fellow women in the transportation industry.”

Another standout session, “Use Your Skills to Thrive,” focused on leveraging existing strengths to advance careers in the industry. Moderated by Abbie Dunaway, Director of MPact Operations at McLeod Software, the panel featured Casandra Altidor of Walmart, Toni Jones of Alliant Insurance Services, and Whitney Mataya of McLeod Software. Panelists encouraged attendees to recognize the value of transferable skills and pursue opportunities with confidence.

Throughout the day, participants exchanged ideas during networking breaks, enjoyed a hosted lunch, and toured the WITney® Educational Trailer. The event reinforced one of WIT’s core strengths: creating spaces where professionals can build lasting connections while learning from one another.

North Carolina Event Focuses on Workforce Challenges WIT then hosted another event in Thomasville, NC, where Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) hosted professionals in trucking for another engaging half-day program on June 17.

Greg Plemmons, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ODFL welcomed attendees as they took in a day of networking and education on critical trucking issues.

The event began with welcome remarks from Greg Plemmons, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ODFL, and WIT President and CEO Jennifer Hedrick. One of the day’s most anticipated presentations featured Rebecca Brewster of the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), who shared findings from ATRI research and discussed ways companies can create more welcoming environments for women drivers.

Brewster’s message was that increasing women’s participation in trucking doesn’t necessarily require sweeping changes.

Instead, companies can make meaningful progress through practical improvements in recruitment, workplace conditions, and outreach efforts that help women feel welcomed, supported, and represented in the industry.

The WITney® Educational Trailer typically makes her appearance at “WIT on the Road” events to provide education through interactive kiosks that highlight HERstories and a state-of-the-art driver simulator to experience truck driving in different scenarios, regions of the coutrny, and weather conditions.

Dee Dee Cox, ODFL’s Vice President of Human Resources, shared insights during the session called, “Authentically You: The Competitive

Advantage Women Bring to the Workplace.” She encouraged attendees to build relationships, communicate career aspirations, and take advantage of every opportunity to be present in important conversations. Her message emphasized that authenticity, visibility, and confidence are key ingredients for career advancement.

The event’s closing panel addressed one of the industry’s most pressing concerns: workforce shortages. Moderated by Katrina Cribbs, ODFL’s Senior Manager of Corporate Account Support, the discussion featured Britta Miano of Red Classic Transportation, Melissa Nishan of EPES Transport System, and Nicole Deal of ODFL. Panelists discussed recruiting, retention, technology, and company culture, stressing the importance of showing candidates the diverse opportunities available within transportation and creating environments where employees feel valued and supported.

The day concluded with a tour of Old Dominion’s CPT office, a group photo, and a memorable serving of key lime pie—a tribute to company founders Earl and Lillian Congdon, whose love story began over the dessert nearly a century ago.

Celebrating Drivers Who Keep America Moving Each year, WIT hosts the Salute to Women Behind the Wheel event to bring together professional truck drivers, industry leaders, and supporters to recognize the vital contributions of female professional drivers. Held during the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY, the event celebrates the skill, dedication, and perseverance of women who keep the nation’s freight moving while helping pave the way for future generations. The annual gathering serves as both a tribute to their achievements and a reminder of the growing impact women continue to make across the trucking industry.

The ballroom buzzed with energy March 27 in the Kentucky Exposition Center as nearly 120 female professional truck drivers and more than 200 allies came together to celebrate female professional truck drivers at the 15th annual Salute to Women Behind the Wheel. Also in attendance were industry leaders such as FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs.

The event was held at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, KY.

Drivers Share Their Stories and Experiences The program was led by the WIT Image Team members who shared their personal stories, with an emphasis on the important role they play in representing the Women In Trucking mission through the WITney® Educational Trailer. WIT Image Team members Allyson Hay, Professional Driver with Walmart Private Fleet and KayLeigh McCall, CDL Instructor with

WIT President and CEO Jennifer Hedrick, CAE, along with members of the Women In Trucking team, connected with attendees throughout the event, sharing conversations, celebrating achievements, and expressing appreciation for those who keep the industry moving.

Ogeechee Technical College, shared their experiences as WITney® Ambassadors (drivers who are trained to support events where WITney® is present) with WITney® Champions (companies that haul the trailer). Their experiences focused on raising awareness of the WIT mission, promoting career opportunities for women in trucking, and recognizing achievements of outstanding women in the industry.

Additional Image Team members also shared how WIT has fostered a true “sisterhood” in being part of the

association. Ingrid Brown, Operations Manager and Professional Driver for Blackjack Express and Kellylynn McLaughlin, Professional Driver with Clean Harbors, described how they became involved with the association and how they ultimately became members of the WIT Image Team. Brown hauls specialize freight (heavy, oversize and refrigerated) while McLaughlin has more than 10 years in dry-van operations, driver training, specialized equine transport and over-the-road hazardous materials. Both women also shared their stories of how much being part of the WIT Image Team has had an impact on their careers as professional truck drivers.

Part of the program also highlighted the stories of the finalists of WIT’s 2026 Driver of the Year award program, which recognizes outstanding female professional truck drivers who lead the industry in safety standards while actively enhancing the public image of the trucking industry. WIT Foundation: How Scholarships Are Driving Dreams Forward The road to a career in trucking doesn’t always begin behind the wheel.

Sometimes it starts at a truck stop, in a high school diesel shop, or after a lifechanging conversation with a friend.

For many, this journey is being made possible through the Women In Trucking Foundation (WITF) Scholarship Program.

Since launching its scholarship initiative in 2011, WITF has invested in the future of the industry by helping women pursue careers in driving, diesel technology, safety, leadership, and other transportation-related fields, according to Kathleen Roseman, Vice President Fleet Sales with TravelCenters of America and WITF Board Chair.

“What began as a commitment to strengthen education in trucking has grown into a powerful force for workforce development,” she says.

To date, WITF has raised more than $385,000 and awarded over 385 scholarships, creating opportunities for women at every stage of their careers. Those scholarships are made possible through the generosity of industry leaders, foundations, organizations, and individual donors who recognize that investing in people is investing in the future of transportation.

Among the Foundation’s supporters are companies such as C.H. More Than a CDL While professional truck driver training remains a popular pathway, WITF’s scholarships extend beyond this career path. Scholarship recipients pursue training and educational programs that include technician careers, safety positions, management and leadership development.

Each scholarship is awarded in $1,000 increments and paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution.

Scholarship recipients also receive a one-year membership to the Women In Trucking Association, connecting them with resources, networking opportunities, and industry support.

Applications are accepted twice annually, with scholarship cycles opening each spring and fall. The next application period begins August 1, 2026.

Meet Spring 2026 Scholarship Recipients The impact of these scholarships is perhaps best understood through the stories of the women whose careers they help launch.

Lisa Williams (Career Path: Professional Truck Driver) recently decided on a trucking career to achieve independence and to advance her next career. It all started Lisa Williams when she was working alongside her sister, cleaning at a truck stop where she met some inspiring women in the industry. The desire to travel to different states has interested her for years, but she couldn’t afford to travel due to her financial situation and being a young mother raising two children. With both of her children now grown, she is finally able to take steps toward pursuing her goals.

Yarrow Farnsworth (Career Path: Professional Truck Driver) feels that to survive in today’s economy, one must have a diverse skill set.

Getting her CDL-A has Yarrow Farnsworth been one of her goals.

She now finds herself at a crossroads to commit to it and explore a new career adventure in trucking. She anticipates the overall impact will be a sense of fulfillment, independence, and new opportunities.

Xen Reddell (Career Path: Technician) currently is working toward being a mobile diesel mechanic. As a senior in high school, she feels lucky to have found a career Xen Reddell path she both loves and is in high demand. She has a passion for mechanics and intends to pursue a fulfilling career to help others. She desires to fix diesel engines for the people in her community and provide services that she would otherwise not be able to provide without technical training.

Sabrina Pearce (Career Path: Leadership) was introduced to trucking by a friend during a time when she was searching for stable work and a Sabrina Pearce new direction. What began as an opportunity quickly became a meaningful career path. Working in trucking has strengthened her resilience, discipline, and problem-solving skills.

Over time, she has trained and mentored many new graduates who were looking for guidance as they entered the industry.

She also has had the opportunity to

Young girls experience driving commercial semi trucks in different scenarios, regions of the country, and weather conditions through a state-of-the-art driver simulator in the WITney® Educational Trailer.

“Trucks Are For Girls” INSPIREs SCOUTS WIT continues to team up with the Girl Scouts of USA to offer fun-filled events for young girls to learn about the trucking industry and earn a Women In Trucking Girl Scout patch. The most recent events, held May 16 in Whitmore Lake, MI and May 30 in St. Cloud, MN, were hosted

by WIT members and their local Girl Scout councils.

The objective of these events, which have been happening since 2014 all over the U.S. and Canada, is to expose young girls to various career opportunities in the trucking industry as well as safety around big trucks. Since the program’s inception, nearly 2,000 girls have earned their WIT patch.

Inspiring Girls to Envision Themselves in Trucking At these events, oftentimes the event is hosted by a WIT corporate member and the WITney® Educational Trailer typically is a focal point for activities. The trailer experience helps trucking careers come to life for young girls through: • Interactive kiosks on Trucking 101 facts, common myth busters, general questions & answers, and a quiz on determining if a career in trucking would be the right fit • A wall mural showcasing WIT’s accomplishments since its inception in 2007 • Headset kiosks to hear inspirational HERstories on how females make it work with family, careers, and overall lifestyle • A female trucker uniform display

Girl Scouts Meet in Whitmore Lake, Michigan On May 16, WIT coordinated an event hosted Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM) at the Whitmore Lake Girl Scout building, according to Jenny Fall, WIT’s Director of Driver Engagement.

One mom shared that her daughter just wasn’t into school - so she wanted to help her find something that didn’t need a 4-year degree, recalls Fall. “I got to talk with her about all the things in trucking that I’ve gotten to see - from driving truck to operations and customer service roles.

During a closing ceremony, each participant received a WIT Girl Scout patch and a doll with an I Heart Trucking® shirt and their name, according to Fall: “What a fun day celebrating Trucks are For Girls with Renee Osaer and Maggie Wolarik!”

The objective of these events, which have been happening since 2014 all over the U.S. and Canada, is to expose young girls to various career opportunities in the trucking industry as well as safety around big trucks.

The WITney® Educational Trailer is a traveling billboard for the Women In Trucking Association and hosts an array of educational and interactive components.

She was a highlighted feature at both “Trucks Are For Girls” events, in Michigan and Minnesota.

Girl Scouts Meet in St. Cloud, Minnesota On May 30, WIT coordinated with Kris Cornellier, Business Development Manager with Anderson Trucking Service based in St. Cloud, MN, to welcome Girl Scouts of the USA for a special event. Throughout the day, the girls explored the world of trucking and logistics through hands-on experiences, including truck tours, a driving simulator, equipment demonstrations, and a look at the many career opportunities available in our industry.

Attending scouts also took part in a yard tour at the ATS facility, lunch, and craft activities, and also received swag bags and a SWAP pin (the Girls Scout acronym for “Special whatchamacalit Affectionately Pinned” somewhere).

“By connecting young minds with role models and real-world experiences, we’re helping demonstrate that transportation offers opportunities for everyone, whether behind the wheel, in operations, technology, leadership, or beyond,” says Cornellier.

WIT is available to assist in the event planning process and will support in the following ways: • Process Guide, which is a document that gives an overview of important steps to successfully plan • Event Planning Form to identify key pieces of information necessary, including primary contact information, to plan the event • Press release template you can use to help with pre-event publicity • Other resources are available as needed.

“We want to see them grow up to be drivers, engineers, business owners, technicians, trainers, or in other career roles,” says Fall.

“Even if the girls do not end up in the trucking industry, our hope is the program empowers the girls to strive for a career they are passionate about.”

Volunteer Spotlight: Volunteers Empowering Women The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) recently launched its “Volunteer Spotlight” program to recognize volunteers whose commitment and leadership help advance the association’s mission.

Their contributions help strengthen the organization and the trucking industry.

Here are several active WIT volunteers: Jerri Baez, Fleet Safety Manager, Colony Hardware. Long before conversations about compliance scores, safety metrics, or operational performance, she believes the real work begins by making people feel heard, respected, and understood.

That philosophy has shaped every part of her career in transportation safety and leadership, and it continues to guide the way she serves WIT today as an Image Team member, mentor, and current Content Committee Chair.

Maggie Wolarik, Executive Director, Operation Broga. Service has always been rooted in compassion, connection, and care for others. As Executive Director of Operation Broga, she has dedicated her professional life to helping people navigate stress, trauma, and physical challenges through movement, music, and mindfulness. Today, she brings that passion to WIT through wellness initiatives for professional drivers.

Kris Cornellier, Business Development Manager, Anderson Trucking Services. What she has found in WIT is a community that encouraged participation, leadership, and growth. Today, she leads a Midwest Networking Group for WIT, creating a consistent space where women in the industry can connect, share insights, and learn from one another. Cornellier also is involved in sponsoring a Girl Scout Patch Program in partnership with WIT and the WITney® Educational Trailer.

Angelika Mangino, Culture and Engagement Manager, Clean Harbors.

Her involvement with WIT is grounded in personal history and professional purpose. With lifelong exposure to the industry, she understands the people, pressures and pride that define the work.

She currently serves on the WIT Content

Committee, identifies subject matter experts who contribute to Redefining the Road magazine, and stays connected with members through the Engage platform.

The group provides a space for professionals to connect, exchange insights, and build community.
