BRUCE: “GREAT THINGS ARE IN STORE FOR COTABATO CITY” By John Felix Unson

Supporters of mayor-elect Bruce Matabalao are now looking forward to the massive implementation of infrastructure and socio-economic projects, the Bangsamoro government as benefactor. The infant political party of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, whose leader, Hadji Ahod Ebrahim, is at the helm of the Bangsamoro parliament, made history with the election of its candidates for mayor and vice mayor here, defeating rivals via an uphill campaign struggle. The mayoral candidate of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) was proclaimed Tuesday night by city poll officials at the Sangguniang Panglunsod session hall. Matabalao defeated in the May 9 mayoral race re-electionist Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, a vocal critic of the MILF-led Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Guiani-Sayadi even contested via the judiciary the city’s fusion into the core territory of BARMM, as a result of a 2019 plebiscite for the ratification of its regional charter that paved the way for the creation of the Bangsamoro government.

P R O C L A I M E D winning candidates apparently take all but three of the city’s 10-member Sangguniang Panlungsod. The City Board of Canvassers have proclaimed mayoral candidate Mohammad Ali “Bruce” Dela Cruz Matabalao, and runningmate Butch Abu as city mayor- and vice-mayorelect of Cotabato City, as of late Wednesday. Both are bets of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP). Officials had endeavored halting the day’s imminent proclamation by the

Board of Canvasser, citing alleged instances of fraud shared on social media messengers, and which were followed up later in a press conference hosted by UniTeam City Council candidate Dr. Danda Juanday. City Mayor Cynthia Guiani Sayadi also went live on Facebook on the same note on Thursday. UBJP candidates said they “will answer should there be formal charges filed in proper forum.” The leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has organized
