LIST OF NEW BTA MEMBERS NOW IN MALACANANG By Edwin O. Fernandez
CHIEF Minister Ahod Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has already completed the list of Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) new members to serve for the next three years. He hinted that some of the Members of Parliament were re-appointed subject to President Duterte’s discretion. As the peace deal says, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will have 41 names (recommendees) submitted to President Duterte to become BTA members while the government has 39 slots. “Actually, sa ngayon is nakalatag na yong reappointment ng mga miyembro ng parliament sa opisina po ng Presidente for

Rodents attack farms in N. Cotabato KIDAPAWAN CITY — Rat infestation has added burden to rice and corn farmers in the hinterlands of Matalam in North Cotabato who are yet to rise from the effects of the pandemic. Rodents have been feasting on rice and corn fields since December last year, according to local officials. In the villages of Minmaing and Sta. Maria, more than 400 hectares of palay and corn fields have been damaged. Minamaing Village Councilor Melvin Padagas farmers in his village
By Williamor A. Magbanua have been complaining of huge losses and expect the municipal and provincial government to come to their rescue. Normally, a one hectare palay fields could yield an average of 90 sacks but due to rat attacks, farmers only take about 20 sacks per hectare. Pagadas estimated the losses to reach P2 million. "We do not recover our expenses, in fact we (already) incurred losses during last cropping and perhaps even this first quarter," Padagas said, adding that village assistance wasn’t enough.
A "rat campaign" was launched to get rid of rodents. On Saturdays and Sundays, villagers harvested some 500 heads of rodents. As reward, Pagadas said, 10 tails presented to Matalam Agriculture Office means 10 kilos of commercial rice. Meantime, Dr. Wilfredo Joloyo, Jr. the municipal agriculturist, said his office has been giving rodenticide to reduce the effects of rat infestation in in Matalam. At least 15 of the town's 32 villages are infested with rodents.
