KIDAPAWAN CITY — A rice producing town in North Cotabato has suffered losses to crops following heavy downpour with strong winds early this week, an agriculture official said. Rice fields in at least 14 villages have been flattened by the whirlwind that hit farming communities, according to Engr. Maria Luz Tabacolde, Tulunan municipal griculturist. She named these villages as Bagumbayan, Bual, Damawato, F. Cajelo, Kanibong, La Esperanza, Maybula, Minapan, New Bunawan, New Culasi, New Panay, Popoyon, Sibsib and Tambac, all are rice producing villages. Tabacolde said at least 864 hectares of these rice fields were totally damaged

while 829 hectares were listed as partially damaged. Most of the rice fields were underwater due to heavy down pour while the rest were flattened by strong wind due to weather disturbances. She estimated the total damages to more than P143 million in 8,600 hectares and affecting 1,298 farmers in 14 barangays.
