Aloha! On behalf of the people of Maui County, I welcome everyone to the 7th Annual Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s highly anticipated event will be delivered virtually to ensure the health and safety of our community. Event organizers have done their best to maintain this Festival as the premier showcase of the hard work and creativity of businesses based in Maui County. This event was created to help stimulate our local economy. Especially now, during these difficult times, our small businesses need a venue to boost sales and awareness of their locally made products. This year, attendees can shop from more than 75 Maui County vendors, featuring hundreds of products, and they can interact with vendors over a live video chat. In addition, a livestream element will be aired over the Festival’s two-day event. Local celebrity hosts Alaka`i Paleka and Kathy Collins will preside over the festivities, and there will be vendor interviews and demonstrations and musical entertainment, along with sponsor and vendor commercials. This Festival could not be possible without the partnership of the Maui Chamber of Commerce and the County of Maui’s Office of Economic Development. Staff from the Chamber and OED have worked hard to support and strengthen our diverse economic base. I would also like to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of this event, including sponsors, vendors, consumers, event committee members and volunteers. A MESSAGE FROM THE MAUI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Aloha & E komo mai! Welcome! to the 7th Annual Hawaiian Airlines Made In Maui County Festival, Maui County’s premier products show that is now virtual this year. The festival is cherished by our local and statewide community and attracts approximately 10,000 people annually who love to shop local and support our small manufacturing businesses in Maui, Molokai and Lanai. They enjoy talking with makers, learning about their passions, and finding products that are truly made in Maui County by local hands and hearts who take pride in their work. So, when it became clear that a live event could not be done for the safety of our residents and guests due to COID-19, we chose to get more creative as cancelling was never an option with so many small businesses devastated by the pandemic. They say that necessity is the mother of innovation, well that is certainly true here and many came together to make this event happen. We saw our new global reach as a way to exceed our prior attendance, connect with those who cherish and miss our beautiful islands, and to let them know that we look forward to welcoming them back. However, to do this we needed a completely different marketing plan and a larger budget that we didn’t have. Still, we came up the concept of reaching 1,000,000 email and social media followers and asked the community for help. They headed the call (which the people of Hawaii are known for) and leveraged their social media accounts and email contacts to get the word out near and far in support of our manufacturers. Our local musicians and talent joined in to create a spectacular live event that is being live streamed over the internet to the world and vendors worked hard to learn new software and technologies to make it happen. We and the event are blessed to have tremendous support from our Mayor, the County Council, the County of Maui Office of Economic Development, our Board, Sponsors, Partners, and our community. Will the event be perfect? We certainly hope so, however, we are realists and have seen glitches, delays and dropped feeds in many online events. If that happens, we will work to fix it as quickly, but I can assure you that all involved have worked tirelessly and done their very best to give you an outstanding experience. I could not be prouder of our team and vendors and we, collectively, proudly share the 2020 Hawaiian Airlines Virtual Made In Maui County Festival with you.
