YANIV DINUR, resident conductor Named the 2019 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Fellow (the largest award for conductors in the U.S.), Yaniv Dinur is currently resident conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony and music director of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. The League of American Orchestras honored the New Bedford Symphony by selecting it to be one of the orchestras to perform at the 2021 League Conference. He is lauded for his bold and engaging programming, insightful interpretations, and unique ability to connect with varied audiences, from season subscribers to first time concertgoers. Recent and upcoming highlights include subscription debuts with the symphonies of Fort Worth and Houston, Orchestra Haydn in Italy, as well as return engagements with the San Diego Symphony, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, and the Peninsula (Wisconsin) and Round Top (Texas) festivals. Among other U.S. guest conducting appearances are the Louisiana Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, New World Symphony, and the San Antonio Symphony. Photo by Erin Kavanaugh

Yaniv Dinur made his conducting debut at the age of 19 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, which led to multiple return engagements. Following his European debut, he was invited to perform with the Israel Camerata in Jerusalem, making him the youngest conductor ever to conduct a professional orchestra in Israel. Since then, he has conducted orchestras around the world, including the Israel Philharmonic, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Portugal Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Festival Orchestra/Bulgaria, Solisti di Perugia, State Orchestra of St. Petersburg, Torino Philharmonic, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. Broadcast live on Israeli radio, he was the principal conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony’s Young Artists Competition from 2003 to 2010. An accomplished pianist, Dinur made his concerto debut with the Milwaukee Symphony in 2019, playing and conducting Mozart’s D Minor Concerto. He received critical acclaim for his “fluid, beautifully executed piano passages” and “deeply musical playing” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). Dinur has worked closely with such world-class conductors as Lorin Maazel, Michael Tilson Thomas, Pinchas Zukerman, Kurt Masur, and Jorma Panula; soloists with whom he has collaborated include Itzhak Perlman, Yefim Bronfman, Jean-EffIam Bavouzet, and Vadim Guzman. He holds a Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance, where he was a student of Prof. Kenneth Kiesler. Born in Jerusalem, Yaniv Dinur began studying the piano at the age of six with his aunt, Olga Shachar, and later with Prof. Alexander Tamir, Tatiana Alexanderov, Mark Dukelsky, and Edna Golandsky. At the age of 16, he began to study conducting with Dr. Evgeny Zirlin. While still in high school, Dinur began his formal studies with Dr. Zirlin at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. After graduating from the Jerusalem Academy, he studied privately with conductor Mendi Rodan.

ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE OF MOTHER GOOSE In Enchantment’s production, Mother Goose recalls her life, blending her personal history with the fairy tales used in Ravel’s sophisticated and extraordinary music. In doing so, she envisions her younger self as the heroine of each of these tales, experiencing love and loss as we all do in our own lives. This is a contemporary Mother Goose who, in her dreams as an old woman, finds peace and redemption through the stories that she spins. Music, like theater, has the power to illuminate and transform. For a theater company whose work is primarily movement-based, music supports and enriches our storytelling and becomes another voice woven into the narrative. Our collaborations with symphony orchestras bring together the magic of great music and great stories. The orchestra will evoke Mother Goose musically as we evoke it dramatically, using masks, puppets, and movement. We hope that our combined efforts will move the audience to discover this classic tale in a new and meaningful way. Leslie Reidel, Resident Director ABOUT ENCHANTMENT THEATRE COMPANY Enchantment Theatre Company thrills audiences with its innovative and visually dramatic family theater productions. The company was founded in 1979 by Jennifer Blatchley Smith and Landis Smith, both actors and playwrights, and expanded to an artistic partnership with Resident Director Leslie Reidel in 1995. Enchantment Theatre Company’s distinctive artistry combines masked actors, puppets, magic, music, and more. Their original and inspiring productions have served more than a million children and families across America and around the world including performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Lincoln Center in New York City; the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; the Academy of Music and the Kimmel Center with the Philadelphia Orchestra in their home town of Philadelphia; and in the Far East, performing in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. The company has appeared with major orchestras across North America, including those of Cleveland, Houston, Seattle, Montreal, and Vancouver. Other Enchantment symphonic concert productions include The Firebird, Scheherazade, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and The Merry Pranks of Till Eulenspiegel.

CAST & STAFF BIOGRAPHIES Shannon Rose Fitzsimons (Ensemble), with a long Enchantment tenure, was one of the original cast members and co-creators of Ma Mere L’Oye (Mother Goose) when it premiered in 2012. Shannon has performed with Enchantment since 2009 with two national tours of The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon, alongside additional Enchantment symphonic productions including The Firebird, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Halloween Spooktacular, while also serving as a teaching artist, and later advisor with Enchantment’s Educational Residency programs in Philadelphia area schools. Shannon holds a BA in theatre and music, as well as a MS in speech-language pathology. She received conservatory training in commedia dell’arte and physical theatre from the Accademia dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy. Adrian Plascencia (Ensemble), born in Léon, Guanajato Mexico, and raised in California’s Bay Area, moved east to earn a degree in modern dance performance at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Adrian also studied at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York City. Adrian’s first project with Enchantment was the developmental workshop of Mother Goose. Adrian has performed Mother Goose and other Enchantment symphonic concert programs across North America. He also served as teaching artist for Enchantment, producing shows for the Philadelphia School District and long-term residencies at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. Adrian recently returned to the Bay Area where he continues to pursue his commitment to the development of young artists as a behavior assistant in special education and as a teaching artist at Poison Apple Productions in Martinez, California.

Jennifer Blatchley Smith (Ensemble, Artistic Director-Literary & Education) studied writing and theater at Bennington College. Jennifer has co-created and performed in over 25 original productions that have been presented across North America and abroad. As a founding member of Enchantment Theatre Company, Jennifer has created roles as diverse as the Broom in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to Beauty in Beauty and the Beast. She has performed in Enchantment productions at Lincoln Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York; the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; and the Annenberg Center, the Kimmel Center, and the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. Jennifer has traveled to Asia six times with Enchantment productions. Her most recent roles have been as an ensemble player in Enchantment’s Scheherazade and in Mother Goose, which premiered with The Montreal Symphony. Her recent Enchantment creations have been My Father’s Dragon, The Phantom Tollbooth, and Peter Rabbit Tales. Landis Smith (Ensemble, Artistic Director-Production) studied theater at Carnegie-Mellon University and Webster University. He began performing magic at the age of six and began studying violin at the age of nine. His love of theater, music, and magic led to the founding of Enchantment Theatre Company in 1979. As a founder and performer with Enchantment, Landis has created, produced, and performed in over 25 original productions across North America and in the Far East. In 1985, Enchantment collaborated with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to premiere The Symphony and the Sorcerer, the first of a series of programs introducing young people to the magic of symphonic music. Since then, Landis has appeared with major orchestras in all of Enchantment’s symphonic concert productions. Landis collaborated in the creation of ETC’s most recent national tours of My Father’s Dragon, The Phantom Tollbooth, and Peter Rabbit Tales. Leslie Reidel (Artistic Director-Resident Director) has dedicated the last 30 years of his professional life to both the preservation of classical theatre and to the development of works for young audiences. He has directed all of Enchantment Theatre Company’s productions. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College and an MFA degree from Temple University. He served as a member of the MFA faculty at Temple University and was a founding member of the Professional Theatre Training Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Delaware. His most recent creations with Enchantment Theatre Company include The Phantom Tollbooth, My Father’s Dragon, Peter Rabbit Tales, and Ravel’s Mother Goose. Leslie is a professor of theatre at the University of Delaware and has directed for the professional REP company on the campus, where his work has included Pinter’s The Homecoming, Hellman’s The Little Foxes, McPherson’s The Weir, and Shakespeare’s Macbeth. He has directed productions of Shakespeare’s plays across the country - most recently a critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice at the Texas Shakespeare Festival. Leslie is also a frequent guest lecturer on “Acting Shakespeare” at theatre training programs across the country and is a member of The International Shakespeare Conference located in Stratford-upon-Avon. Andrew Cowles (Lighting Designer) has worked with Enchantment Theatre Company since 2005 starting when he served as the technical director for their touring production of Cinderella. He has designed over 200 productions around the Greater Philadelphia Area for such companies as Enchantment Theatre Company, Simpatico Theater Project, Theatre Horizon, Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Company, Curio Theatre Company, Center City Opera Theater, South Camden Theatre Company, Cabaret Red Light, Rutgers University, Arcadia University, and Penn State University. Andrew received a Philadelphia Barrymore Nomination for his design for The Brothers Size with Simpatico Theatre Project. Andrew holds a Bachelors of Arts from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. C. David Russell (Production Designer) David Russell’s varied career includes costume and scenic design, costume and property crafts, event design, project management, and teaching. He is currently head of the scenic design program at Ohio University School of Theater. He formerly served as head of the costume crafts technology program and instructor of costume design at Ohio University. His professional credits include scenic and costume design with The Resident Ensemble Players in Newark, Delaware, Enchantment Theatre Company productions with The Cleveland Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Montreal Symphony, and the Seattle Symphony. Costume design with The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, TheatersWorks Hartford, and Pittsburg Public Theatre. In addition, David worked at the Santa Fe Opera for 18 seasons as the Master Craftsman and Props Artisan. David received his BFA from Ohio University and received his MFA from New York University Tisch School for the Arts.

Bradley K. Wrenn (Associate Director) is a performer, writer, and creator whose work focuses on alternative comedy, spectacle, physical humor, and puppetry. Bradley has performed, toured, and created with Enchantment Theatre Company since 2008 - productions include Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast, Scheherazade, The Snow Queen, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and The Merry Pranks of Till Eulenspiegel. In the Philadelphia area, he has performed with Mum Puppettheatre, Enchantment Theatre Company, Theatre Horizon, Commonwealth Classic Theatre Co, and Lantern Theater Company. He currently teaches improv, clown, and character Building at the University of Washington. Jamie L. McKittrick (Choreographer) is a multidisciplinary artist with an MFA in contemporary performance from Naropa University. With Enchantment, she has performed in the National Tours of Cinderella and The Velveteen Rabbit, in the Philadelphia production of Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, and in the symphony productions of Scheherazade and Cinderella. She is currently an associate artist with Metro Theatre Company where she has directed, choreographed, and performed in multiple productions including featured productions for TYAUSA. In Philadelphia, she’s performed with Swim Pony Performing Arts, Johnny Showcase, and Tribe of Fools. She is currently the visiting assistant professor of acting at Muhlenberg College.
