James Pickering
George Burns
His appearance in George and Gracie: A Love Story marks Jim’s fifty-second season acting and direction at Milwaukee Rep. Some of his favorite experiences here have been collaborations in the development of new plays: Larry Shue’s The Nerd, Tom Cole’s Fighting Bob, and Amlin Gray’s How I Got That Story, Zones of the Spirit, and Kingdom Come. The play you will see today is special in that regard, as it was written by his wonderful wife, actress/playwright Tami Workentin. His collaboration in this creation (besides performing the really good part she created for him) has been primarily to make sure apostrophes have been correctly placed. Among other real-life people he has portrayed on Milwaukee Rep stages are George Washington, Samuel Clemens, Richard Nixon, and Frank Zeidler.
