For over 100 years, the foundation of Milwaukee Catholic Home has been rooted in benevolence. Our generous donors continue this tradition by being part of the spirit of giving that has made this community such a wonderful place in which to live.

We acknowledge the kindness of benefactors and recognize our lifetime donors who have contributed over $10,000 to our mission throughout their giving history.

Milwaukee Catholic Home acknowledges those generous donors who have made our organization part of their legacy through their will or other estate gifts.

• Bernice C. Blenker Trust

• Mr. and Mrs. Steven and Catherine Hoelter

• Judge V. Robert Payant and Mrs. Virginia Payant

Milwaukee Catholic Home began its journey over a century ago, with a group of visionary women from the Marquette Women’s League. Led by founder Anna Marie Hackett, this group saw the need for a new residential community for older adults, and incorporated the new Milwaukee Catholic Home for the Aged in 1913, opening its doors for the first time on Astor Street in downtown Milwaukee in 1915.

Over the next several decades, Milwaukee Catholic Home developed a reputation for providing excellent, compassionate care and an authentic community for older adults. Today, our organization offers a full continuum of care for older adults, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and rehabilitation services, as well as many active partnerships with parishes, schools, and community organizations.

CHARITABLE CARE

Milwaukee Catholic Home’s philosophy of service, which focuses on whole-person wellness, ensures our residents have a variety of opportunities for engagement which support all aspects of one’s being. We believe that an engaged life is a full life, and that the more aspects of your life that you engage, the happier and healthier you age. In addition to benevolent assistance, Milwaukee Catholic Home participates in the Medicaid program, accepting reimbursement rates far below the actual costs of care, for enrolled residents living in skilled nursing. In 2022, we provided over 15,667 Medicaid bed days, or, on average, 42 people a day.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Partnership with Cristo Rey Work Study Program

Part of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School’s academic program involves having all students work to learn about different jobs in the community and gain valuable on-the-job experience. All students work and learn skills that will serve them well in college and future careers while dedicating one day every academic week working for businesses through greater Milwaukee.

At Milwaukee Catholic Home, Cristo Rey students helped with crucial tasks in the Finance, Human Resource and Fund Development departments. They especially enjoyed relationship building with residents when assisting with events and programs. Cristo Rey students were also at Trinity Woods and Our Lady of the Angels Convent as part of their work study program in 2022.

Partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools

In 2022, Milwaukee Catholic Home welcomed seven students during the spring semester and eight students during the fall semester as part of the School-to-Work Transition program (STWTP). With a history of more than thirty years in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), the STWTP provides a continuum of transition services to MPS students to develop their skills and help them achieve their highest level of independence. By providing social and vocational opportunities in a real-world setting, STWTP focus on abilities and on promoting and supporting the highest capacities of MPS students in their personal and professional development.

2022 REPORT ON COMMUNITY IMPACT
For Earth Day,  MCH staff experienced sun, rain, sleet, hail and snow while participating in Riverkeeper’s Earth Day Cleanup. Our residents recently made over 150 sandwiches for the Guest House of Milwaukee as part of our Faith in Our Lives program!

The Nurse Aide Training Program

The Nurse Aide Training Program through Milwaukee Catholic Home is letting people start their healthcare career now! This 80-hour course over five weeks includes 40 hours of online, self-paced learning and 40 hours of in-person skills lab and hands on training. Scholarships which pay for the Nurse Aide Training Program are available to students who wish to work for Milwaukee Catholic Home for a minimum of one year.

Almsgiving Benefits Cristo Rey

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is a Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory school that nurtures each student’s intellectual development through rigorous academic coursework, rich classroom dialogue, and studentcentered academic support. Cristo Rey Jesuit students are provided the opportunity to develop their faith in God and recognize how they can utilize their unique God-given talents to create a more just and loving world. Students are challenged to become leaders by the high standard of excellence they strive for in the classroom and beyond.

Capuchin Community Services’ Holiday Food Box Program

Residents, staff, and friends of Milwaukee Catholic Home certainly got into the charitable spirit by participating in the Capuchin Community Services’ Holiday Food Box Program. The annual Holiday Food Box Program provides central city families in need with food baskets that contain all the fixings for a festive meal during both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

During the month of November, MCH staff and residents worked diligently to promote the Capuchin’s charitable appeal. While the initial goal was to fill and donate 50 food boxes, their efforts were clearly successful, as 75 food boxes were filled and returned to the Capuchin’s for distribution.

Ladies of Charity Winter Clothing Drive

The Milwaukee Ladies of Charity is a group of 120 women volunteers who work to clothe children in need in our city. In 2022, the Pastoral Care Team at Milwaukee Catholic Home hosted two unique drives to call special attention to this local organization and the great work they do-and our residents and staff members rose to the occasion!

While The Residence at 2462 had a “Mitten Tree” on display during the holiday season, the Health and Rehabilitation Center hosted a “Stuff the Chimney” fundraiser. These unique and festive appeals filled 5 large boxes with hats, mittens, gloves, and winter coats.

Annual Retreat

“One in Christ: Living in Peace in Divided Times” took place over two days in September 2022. Led by Fr. Tim Kitzke, retreat participants reflected on the crazy brokenness of a world that can only be matched by the incredible nature of God’s love uniting us and healing us. God has done it before and always promises to do it again.

Residents and staff at Trinity Woods live, work, and thrive together. As part of the Growing Garden’s Together series at the Catholic Ecology Center, participants learned all about prepping and planting vegetables. The MCH family filled over 75 boxes of food to support The Capuchin Community Services’ Holiday Food Box program this past November.
