Our early entry programs are designed to help you demonstrate your true potential – beyond your ATAR – and help you secure an early offer to La Trobe.

Aspire Receive an early offer into La Trobe with our Aspire program.

La Trobe works in close partnership with the community to meet the current and future needs of our society.

That’s why we recognise Year 11 and 12 students who have volunteered or given back to their community. This recognition means when you apply for the Aspire Early Entry Program you could receive: y an early conditional offer to any eligible degree by October, which is generally two months earlier than VTAC-based offers y access to the exclusive ‘Aspire ATAR’ – this is an adjusted ATAR that gives you a reduced minimum rank we’ll use to lock in your offer y one of 40 scholarships valued at $5,000 per annum for the duration of your course.1 You’ll also get a head start on uni with: y access to hundreds of free VCE and HSC study guides and revision lectures y leadership opportunities, career development, networking and industry mentoring y special Aspire events where you can connect with like-minded students y exclusive access to major sporting and cultural events.

Guide to study modes StudyFlex™

Online

Whether your course is considered ‘on campus’, ‘online’ or a mix of both, a StudyFlex™ course provides at least one third of its subjects on campus or online and/or at least two StudyFlex™ majors – that is, two eight-subject sequences that offer at least half of their subjects on campus or online.

All your learning activities can be completed online, with learning materials and additional support available online.

Activities can be live, self-paced or a combination of both. Our online courses are taught by industry-leading academics with expertise in online education. You’ll benefit from one-onone tutoring, around-the-clock support and the same learning outcomes as on-campus study.

Every eligible course has a different mix of StudyFlex™ options – they might be available throughout your course, or they might be concentrated in a specific period. They can make up to a third of your course, or they could even make up all of it.

Adjustment factors

Honours

Scored/unscored VCE

If you're applying to La Trobe with an ATAR, adjustment factors are additional considerations we can apply to your application based on your personal circumstances and performance. Adjustment factors may be added to your raw ATAR.

Honours studies are advanced studies attached to undergraduate degrees that give you a higher qualification than a three-year degree. Many people do Honours so they can continue to postgraduate studies.

A scored VCE program gives you an ATAR and requires you to complete coursework and exams for a minimum of four subjects. Under the unscored VCE option, you complete the VCE coursework but do not sit final exams and are not given an ATAR.

Advanced standing If you’ve completed relevant, formally recognised studies at another uni or TAFE or have suitable work experience, you may get advanced standing (also known as ‘credit’) for some or all of your studies when you enrol at uni. This means you may finish your degree faster.

Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) VTAC or UAC gives you an ATAR (a number between 0.00 and 99.95) to rank your Year 12 results against other students’ results.

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) When you’re offered a CSP, the government subsidises your course fees and you only need to pay for part of your tuition, known as the ‘student contribution amount’. All domestic undergraduate places at La Trobe are CSPs.

Early entry program These programs can provide an alternate way to enter your dream university course by considering factors outside of your ATAR to gain entry into university.

Depending on your course, this may involve an additional year of study, although some courses have it built in.

Industry placements Industry placements integrate educational theory and workplace experience, preparing you to be work ready, world ready and future ready.

Major A major is a way to specialise in your course. It’s made up of a sequence of related subjects spread over the duration of an undergraduate course. You’ll usually undertake at least one subject from your major each semester, and you must pass each subject to move on to the next one in the sequence.

Pathways Pathways let you enter your chosen course through another qualification.

For example, the Diploma of Arts is one pathway to a Bachelor of Arts. Going from Year 12 to TAFE and then uni is another. You can also start a La Trobe degree with a lower entry requirement and apply for a transfer to your preferred degree.

These requirements are usually made up of qualifications, subjects or exam grades. Course prerequisites and other extra requirements, such as interviews and portfolios, are outlined on our website:

Prerequisites are the subjects you must have completed in previous study to be eligible for consideration in a specific uni course.

Study score A study score shows how well you performed in units 3 and 4 of a subject, compared to everyone else in Victoria who took that subject.

The mean study score is 30. Above 38 puts you in the top 15 per cent. The maximum score is 50.

VET Vocational Education and Training.

Weighted Average Mark (WAM) The calculation La Trobe uses instead of the Grade Point Average (GPA).

A student’s WAM is calculated by using the following formula: Sum of (final marks x subject credit points) / sum of total credit points = WAM.
