Milwaukee Urban League and the 2016 Louvenia Johnson Scholarship recipients

On Thursday, July 21, 2016 The Milwaukee Urban League and the Milwaukee Times Black Excellence Awards committee hosted a check presentation to the 2016 Louvenia Johnson Scholarship recipients. This year The Milwaukee Times with generous donations from WISN Channel 12, Reid's New Golden Gate Funeral Home, Robert W. Baird and Co., Johnson Controls, Northwestern Mutual, Gruber Law Offices, We Energies Foundation, Milwaukee Business Journal, Hupy and Abraham, S.C., and Columbia Savings and Loan Association were able to give a scholarship and laptop to nine area students. The laptops were awarded the night of the Black Excellence Awards, but the actual checks were presented on Thursday at the Milwaukee Urban League offices. Traci Braxton guests at local Burger King's 'Celebrity Drive-Through' On Saturday, July 23, 2016 the employees and customers at the Burger King on Green Bay & Capitol Drive got to "Take a Break from Boredom," with TV/ radio personality and singer Traci Braxton. Traci took drive-through orders and helped customers as part of a spePhoto by Yvonne Kemp cial promotion between "The Traci Braxton Show" on BLIS.F.M. radio and Burger King. Traci was in town as a special guest of the African American Ladies Empowered To Grow Opportunities (A-LEGO) program "The Power of Connecting: The Most Powerful Women Conference," a series of workshops to help empower women personally and professionally. The workshops took place Thursday, July 21 through Saturday, July 23, 2016. Salvation Army and Brewers' Wives helps local kids beat the heat

On Monday, July 25, 2016 the Salvation Army Milwaukee's Feed the Kids Summer Meals program and the Brewers' Wives charity foundation hosted an ice cream social at James Beckum Park (formerly Carver Park) for all the area children who are part of the program. The children not only got to enjoy refreshing ice cream treats on a hot summer's day, they also got to play games and contests with the Klement's Racing Sausages at the park.
