Molina Healthcare hosts 13th Annual Community Champions Awards On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Molina Healthcare hosted its thirteenth annual Community Champions Awards program at the Renaissance Place, 1451 N. Prospect Ave. The program was created in 2006 to honor and bring together people whose leadership, volunteerism, and public advocacy embody the spirit of service and community. Winners each receive a $3,000 grant for the nonprofit organization of their choice and a trophy. Calvary Baptist Church hosts Annual Celebration of Friendship
On Sunday, September 29, 2019, Calvary Baptist Church hosted their Annual Celebration of Friendship at their church, 2959 N Teutonia Ave. As part of the celebration a group of male Calvary members known-as the "Bone Burning Brothers," cooked for more than 100 church members and guests. The menu included Shrimp Scampi with Linguine, greens, red beans and rice, curry chicken, and corn bread. For dessert many of the church women, or "Ladies of the Cakes" made vanilla, chocolate and carrot pound cakes. NAACP Milwaukee Branch hosts 2019 Annual Freedom Fund Dinner On Friday, October 18, 2019, the Milwaukee Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) hosted their Annual Freedom Fund Dinner at the Wisconsin Center Expo Hall (third floor), 400 West Wisconsin Ave. This year's theme was "When We Fight, We Win." With the current political and social climate, the theme was highly appropriate. The message of, "If you do not resist and keep fight through the tumultuous times in our country, we will overcome," was echoed by many of the speakers of the evening. The keynote speaker for this year was the Honorable Congresswoman Gwen Moore (inset).
