Mayor Johnson visits Milwaukee Environmental Sciences Academy

On Friday, May 27, 2022, The Milwaukee Environmental Sciences Academy (MESA), 6600 W. Melvina Street, celebrated the school's First All-School STEM Science Fair. As part of this STEM event Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson visited MESA
to help celebrate the occasion and also honor school principal Janet Colvin. Principal Colvin received a Proclamation from the Common Council for her work in improving the school since she took the position in August 2020.
Greater Milwaukee Urban League celebrates graduates of GTE program On Friday May 6, 2022, Pathways High School welcomed the Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL) and Kohler Company to their school. These two organizations work in conjunction with the Graduate To Employment (GTE) Program. The GTE Program was designed by GMUL to worked with school-aged students who may be unsure about their education path and choose to explore opportunities in the workforce and trades after high school. Photo by Yvonne Kemp The event provided a tour of Pathways High School, their program, and observation of the students' financial literacy class. The students work in the program for 10 weeks to learn how to utilize their individual talents to identify jobs or occupations that align with their interests and skills. GTE teaches students the significance of understanding employer and employee expectations to help with job retention. The program helps to develop strong communication skills, conflict resolution and use of good behaviors and attitudes. Through the partnership with Kohler Co., students qualify for internship and scholarship opportunities. GTE also teaches students the value of a budget and smart spending habits to achieve economic stability.
