Obituary

Edna Louise Hicks was born on April 26, 1929 to Grady Harvell and Mattie Lee Pryor in Belle Mina, Alabama.

Edna L. Hicks received her formal education in the Belle Mina School system in Belle Mina, AL.

Edna accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and was united with Morning Star Methodist Church in Belle Mina, AL, until she moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1955. During her illness, Edna received spiritual guidance and continued her personal relationship with Christ. She passed away knowing that there is a heavenly place prepared for her.

Edna L. Pryor was united in holy matrimony with James Hicks, Sr. on April 22, 1946 in Decater, AL. Their union was blessed with two children, Mary and James Hicks, Jr.

She was employed by Briggs and Stratton as a machinist for 26 years until her retirement.

In her leisure, she enjoyed spending lots of time with her family, going to the race track, playing cards, and taking occasional trips to casinos. “She loved to party and enjoyed life.”

Edna Louise Hicks departed this life on February 4, 2016. She was surrounded by family and peacefully departed this life at Wheaton Franciscan - St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death by her father, Grady Harvell; mother, Mattie Lee Pryor; daughter, Mary L. Hicks; and sister Annie Mae Joseph.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, James Hicks, Jr.; grandsons Anthony (Stevie) Hicks, and Jamel (Rickey) Hicks, Henry Darnell Luter; granddaughter, Liane Renee Hicks; eight great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; nephews, Charlie (Jerry) Pryor and André Joseph; nieces, Alicia (Nehemiah) Carson and Charlene (Michael) Joseph; and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Fallen Limb

A limb has fallen from the family tree.

I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me.

Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.

The good life I lived while I was strong.

Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.

Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.

Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.

Continue traditions, no matter how small.

Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
