SIMON

A homeless girl and her dog seek refuge under a bridge, hungry and desperate. The girl spots a nearby town and decides to find food. She comes across a bakery and notices a hiring poster on the window. Encouraged, she enters the bakery, hoping for a job. The bakery's owner, Simon, is preoccupied but eventually notices the girl's sign and decides to give her a chance. Amy, the girl, is thrilled and Simon hands her a jacket as a symbol of acceptance. Simon shows Amy around the bakery and takes her to the kitchen. He asks her to help mix dough while he tends to other tasks. Impressed by Amy's interest, Simon leaves her in the kitchen and goes back to the front. He realizes some bread display cases need restocking and asks Amy for assistance. They bring out more bread and Amy restocks the display cases. Tempted by a pastry, Amy considers taking it but changes her mind when Simon calls her. He scolds her for her momentary lapse and warns her about stealing. In the kitchen, Simon decides to test Amy's integrity once again. He gives her a basket for delivery and secretly observes her from the kitchen door. Amy leads the way to a spot under the bridge, but before she reaches it, Simon surprises her and catches her attention. The girl starts to cry, but Simon notices an injured dog behind her, desperate for food. Touched by compassion, Simon embraces the girl and takes both her and the dog back to the bakery, where they can provide care and support for them.
