In 2015 a group of volunteers sent a survey to every household in Milngavie asking for suggestions to improve life in the community.

The Number One suggestion was – “Bring back Milngavie Week!”

So in 2016 we did, with about twenty events, all organized by volunteers.

Since then, with an interruption for Covid, we have co-ordinated an annual week of events. And this year we have 58 events, mostly staged by individuals and groups of volunteers.

A significant part of the organizing is sourcing the funds to ensure that most events are free, and we thank contributors for their help.

It is a dynamic community with lots going on. Sometimes the challenge is to make people aware of the wealth of opportunities to join in with other people. For example, Milngavie Community Development Trust has carried out many of the action points suggested by the community in 2015 – naturalizing the CE Centre pond, improving Lennox Park, planting an orchard, investigating energy from the River Allander, and so on.

And the flagship event has certainly been Milngavie Week. We hope you take part and enjoy!

This demonstrates that Milngavie is more than just a commuter town on the outskirts of Glasgow.
