Down Memory Lane
New Kilpatrick Church
Drop in to view our rarely seen bound newspaper volumes of the Milngavie and Bearsden Herald on display. From the 1950s all the way through to the 1990s. Come and reminiscence with local articles, adverts and fashions over the changing decades!
Visit Bearsden’s New Kilpatrick Church on this open day to view the impressive stained glass windows. There will be short talks on the stained glass, including the stories of the local people behind the windows and a children’s heritage quiz.

Theatre: Reflections of a Strong Voice – Women, how we got to now* As part of International Women’s Day a cultural evening of opinions, stories, music and readings from the female perspective. This event is a partnership with East Dunbartonshire’s Women’s Heritage Group who have written, researched and will perform a series of powerful monologues ‘Women of their Time’, inspired by stories of local women and their lives through the years. This will include a pop up exhibition of their art work that has been exhibited in Town Hall. (another great opportunity to see the work) The evening will also showcase strong female voices with a performance by Kirkintilloch Ladies Choir and listen to a series of illuminating short readings recognising women’s historical, cultural and political contributions to society. We also welcome Jo Mango, an East Dunbartonshire based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She has performed internationally, including the Carnegie Hall in New York. Jo will be linking performances through song and conversation. One of Scotland’s leading female singer songwriters.(*this production is aimed to be a safe and enjoyable event with stories and experiences of real lives which may contain strong language). Canal Heritage Guided Walk
Boat Trips on the Forth and Clyde Canal
Come along and enjoy a short walk with guide and Canal News Editor, Paul Carter. Starting from Townhead Bridge to Hillhead Bridge and along to Southbank Marina. Explore the Forth and Clyde Canal’s rich heritage of shipbuilding, iron works, cruising and the building of the Luggie Aqueduct.
To celebrate Local History Month the Forth and Clyde Canal Society will be offering short boat trips along the Forth and Clyde Canal. There will also be information available about the canal history and Forth and Clyde Canal Society.

MILNGAVIE Visit to Dougalston Doocot The doocot (dovecot, pigeon house) is a Grade 2 listed building and a prominent feature of the designed landscape of the Dougalston Estate. Trails and Tales
Pop in and see some faces from Milngavie’s past. From the workers at the Tambowie Distillery to Primary School teachers from 100 years ago. This interesting photograph display on the people of Milngavie is worth a look!
Trails and Tales is an Arts & Heritage Project which has engaged artists with communities to explore their local history and heritage. This project has generated research, conversations and creative responses to learning and has inform the design and creation of a series of outdoors sculptural arts and heritage trails, across 11 local communities (towns and villages). There are nine downloadable maps on our website which you can use to explore East Dunbartonshire. These can also be found across our Trail Hubs, Libraries & Cultural Venues from spring/summer 2020. Made in Kirkintilloch, A Heritage Centre at Kirkintilloch Town Hall This is our Visitor Centre which depicts the Industry of Kirkintilloch through a permanent display on the upper floor. We also have a community learning space and co-curated exhibition space which has a changing programme of collaborative exhibitions between artists & communities. Open to the public Monday to Thursday 10am – 4pm & various Saturdays. Admission is free.
