DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I can heal. I can breathe. I can feel myself believe. My heart’s at the wheel now.
At first glance Waitress is a story about pie. About the sweetness of a dream and the bitter crust of what life – and sometimes the people we trust can sometimes dish out. But more than that, it’s a story about choice.
Behind every door is a world we may never fully see or understand. We are so quick to name things right or wrong, to declare who or what is good or bad, to reduce love to a choice of whether to stay or go. But our hearts are so big. Big enough to hold the complexity of the in-between.
Jenna’s journey is not just about leaving or staying. It’s about reclaiming. Reclaiming the sound of her voice. The shape of her joy. The rhythm of her life. And in that reclamation, we’re reminded that the medicine we seek—confidence, clarity, courage, connection—already resides within. Sometimes it just needs the right moment, the right person, the right expression of brave truth to call it forward.
In a world that often tells us how to be, who to love, what to buy, and when to speak, Waitress invites us to remember something vital: We get to choose. To choose love. To choose peace. To choose each other.
This story is for anyone who has ever felt stuck, silenced, or small. For anyone who has ever wondered if there’s more. For anyone facing a choice point, hoping for a sign.
May this be your sign to bravely inch forward–head and heart online at once, to navigate the space between, to claim and create the life of your dreams.
And if all else fails, bake the pie. Or whatever your heart is calling to create. That’s where healing often begins.
Melinda Pfundstein Director
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Giving space to playwrights, composers, and lyricists to work with directors, designers, and actors is critical to the process of making new work come to life. Of course, the last and most exciting component in this development is adding you, the audience. So many of our patrons are fans of new work, and I believe it is the responsibility of regional theatres, like PTC, to support and promote the development of new plays and musicals in their theatres. Without such support, this art form will not continue to grow and thrive.
If you paid close attention to the playbill from our last production, you may recall that in it, I broke down the first half of the 25/26 lineup. Now, please enjoy part two. Next season, I am truly excited to share a brand-new musical with you, a beautiful story exploring one day in the life of sixteen-year-old Mike and his family who, we might say, have a lot going on. Ten Brave Seconds is a world premiere musical by Jeff Talbott and Will Van Dyke that not only demonstrates our commitment to championing new work, but also allows our audience to be among the first to see what we hope will become a classic American musical.
The thrills don’t stop there: our fifth show of the season, Rajiv Joseph’s King James, will be staged at the Meldrum Theatre, which gives us a wonderful opportunity to produce smaller plays in an intimate space. King James is an experience to be shared with your best friend, or favorite sports lover, and will bring poignancy and laughter to the spring at PTC.
We are closing our season with Come From Away, and what I am certain is a musical that will touch the hearts and souls of every audience member. I am so proud to be able to share this wonderful piece of theatre with this community, at a time when so many wonder if hope, kindness, and compassion are still qualities that exist in the world. Based on true events during the nightmare of 9/11, Come From Away will put to rest any question of the power of humanity.
Next year will be a season not to be missed—so renew your subscription now! In the meantime, thank you for supporting live theatre, have a wonderful summer, and enjoy the show.

A NOTE FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR
Dear Friends and Fellow Theatre Lovers, I’m delighted to welcome you to the Utah Premiere of Waitress!
This uplifting and inspiring musical is the perfect finale to our 63rd season—a season marked by powerful performances, bold storytelling, and the unwavering support of our incredible community. As we bring this chapter to a close, we’re filled with anticipation for what’s to come in Season 64, beginning this September. We hope you share our excitement for the season ahead—a vibrant lineup of productions that will inspire, provoke thought, and delight. We look forward to welcoming you back to the theatre for another unforgettable year of storytelling and artistry.
As we celebrate the culmination of this remarkable season, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who helped make our Annual Theatre Lives Here Gala on April 26 such a tremendous success. It was a joyful and memorable evening celebrating the incredible legacy and enduring impact of the Simmons Family Foundation and the unwavering support of the
Pioneer Theatre Guild. We’re deeply grateful to our sponsors, guests, and every individual who made the night so special. It was a true celebration of community, theatre, and the artform we all love.
As we close this season, I invite you to help ensure the future of PTC by making a donation. Ticket sales cover only a portion of what it takes to bring professional theatre to our stage. Your gift—of any size—helps us continue creating bold productions, nurturing new voices, and making theatre accessible for all.
Thank you for being part of our story, and we look forward to seeing you in September!
With appreciation, Adrian
Budhu
