SEASON 2023 2024 SPRING

As we draw the curtain on the 2023/2024 season, we’re not just reflecting on a series of remarkable performances, but also celebrating some amazing things we achieved together. This season, over 20,000 of you joined us at a performance. Thousands more engaged with our educational initiatives outside the traditional concert hall. From the unforgettable melodies of “Peter and The Wolf” to chilling with Chad Lawson, celebrating talented Utahns with The 5 Browns and Chamber Orchestra Ogden, or the captivating Anderson & Roe Piano Duo, we’re witnessing the power of resonant and relevant performances to foster an engaged community.

I’m sure many of you are as excited as we are about the upcoming 2024/2025 season. It’s not just any season; it’s our 75th anniversary. That’s three-quarters of a century filled with joy, reflection, and discovery, all thanks to you and the generations before who’ve kept the rhythm going strong.

Subscriptions for our 2024/2025 will be on sale shortly. Long-time ticket buyers and new-attendees alike can expect a wide variety of engaging, uplifting, and entertaining experiences to choose from. Subscribing is easy: just choose 4 or more shows, and you’ll save up to 15% on single-show prices and get the best available seats before they go on sale to the general public later in the summer.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to those you’ve made this season and next possible. To our donors, know that your generosity is the encore that keeps us going, allowing us to hit high notes year after year.

Here’s to celebrating 75 years of amazing performances here in Ogden and to the many more chapters yet to be written. We invite you to join us for what promises to be an unforgettable season, continuing the legacy of elevating and connecting community through the performing arts.

Arts
The Onstage Ogden’s 2023–2024 season is funded in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, Weber County Recreation, Arts, Museums, and Parks (RAMP) program, and Ogden City Arts.

ONSTAGE OGDEN

In 1949, Beverly Lund and Ginny Mathei decided they wanted to add even more culture to Weber County.

So, for the small fee of $400, they brought the Utah Symphony to Ogden for a single performance. Three hundred people attended the concert.

This 1949 concert was a big success, so the women decided to present even more concerts in Ogden. They organized a committee within the Welfare League (later the Junior League) to raise funds for the Symphony Concerts. Then, in 1957, this committee reformed and incorporated as the Ogden Guild. After a few more name changes and the addition of Ballet West performances in 1982, the organization became the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association.

Under the direction of numerous board members and long-serving Executive Directors like Jean Pell (27 years), and Sharon Macfarlane (14 years), Onstage Ogden has expanded our programming to include internationally renowned classical dance, vocal, and chamber music. Since our inception, we have presented over 800 performances to tens of thousands of Utahns.

In addition, Onstage Ogden actively works to engage and educate younger patrons. For example, our Youth Guild has provided generations of high school students with opportunities to serve. We also offer a variety of education classes, from Masterworks Music Detectives to Music and Dance Explorers. And we are partnering with several local community organizations to expand these programs to reach even more children and students. Onstage Ogden is proud to celebrate over 70 years sponsoring only the finest music and dance in the Greater Ogden area. We believe the arts have the power to inspire and uplift, and we are firmly committed to providing everyone in our community with greater access to the arts.

ARTIST’S PROFILE

Steinway Artist, pianist and composer Chad Lawson is a modern-day master of reinvention: his bold interpretation of the classics, electronic loops and atmospherics resonate with EDM fans and Neo-classical traditionalists alike. Lawson is a streaming star with tens of millions of followers whose entire catalog has been streamed over 500 million times and has become known as the artist creating “Classical music for the Spotify generation” through contemporary techniques and an emotive, arresting signature sound. He is equally at home performing his own rendition of contemporary hits such as Billie Eilish’s ‘When The Party’s Over’ (#26 in the Classical Charts), as he is performing Chopin sonatas.

He is the host and creator of the iHeart nominated and acclaimed mental wellness podcast ‘Calm It Down’ (600k+ downloads). In a world full of noise, Chad’s meditative music invites us all to take a moment and reconnect with who we are. He makes music for the mind, body and soul.

Chad wrote the music for the podcast ‘Lore’ and with it, toured the US for the first time.

Soon after, it became a successful TV series by Amazon. His music has been used for ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Viceland’, as well as numerous commercial placements including Delta Airlines and Microsoft.

Lawson’s major label debut solo piano album ‘You Finally Knew’, was released on Universal/DECCA in September of 2020. It has garnered over 200 million streams globally, spent more than 50 weeks in the Billboard Classical Charts’ top 50 -staying for over 20 consecutive weeks in the top 10-, and was #1 on Spotify UK’s New Releases.

His original single ‘Stay’, has been in the Billboard Classical Charts ‘Top 25’ for 55 + consecutive weeks. Lawson’s music has concocted a soothing musical cocktail as an antidote for this Age of Anxiety. Chad has sold out performances at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw (October 23, 2019), Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie Kleine Saal (Feb 8, 2020), performed a livestream at Wigmore Hall on June 20, 2021 and has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered as well as CBS Sunday Morning.

ARTISTS’ PROFILE

THE 5 BROWNS

The 5 Browns are delivering on their dream to wake up classical music by introducing it to the widest, largest and most excited audience they can find. Whether performing individually or together in various combinations from duo to complex five-piano arrangements, The 5 Browns reveal a deep connection to the intent of their material while bringing a fresh energy and dynamic character to the color and tonal spectrum of their sound.

The 5 Browns – Ryan, Melody, Gregory, Deondra and Desirae – all attended New York’s Juilliard School. In fact, they became the first family of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously. The quintet enjoyed their first wave of critical attention in February 2002 when People magazine dubbed them the “Fab Five” at about the same time they were featured on Oprah and 60 Minutes. The 5 Browns have released 3 CDs that each went to #1 on Billboard Magazine’s Classical Album Chart. The New York Post has proclaimed: “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years…When these kids do Rachmaninoff, they’ll make you forget about Marshall amps.”

The quintet has garnered extensive

coverage from media outlets ranging from The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and The View, to CNN, Fox and Friends, Public Radio’s Performance Today, as well as The New York Times, Parade, People, the Los Angeles Times, the Sunday London Telegraph and Entertainment Weekly.

In addition to touring, The 5 Browns are published writers. Their book, Life Between the Keys, a lighthearted collection of personal stories, was published by Phoenix Books in March 2009.

The group was also featured in a PBS TV special, “The 5 Browns In Concert,” which aired on PBS stations throughout the country.

A highlight for the quintet was a commissioned five-piano concerto written by famed composer Nico Mühly. Under the direction of Maestro James Conlon, the concerto premiered in 2011 at the Ravinia Festival with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

The 5 Browns were awarded honorary doctorates from Utah Valley University on May 2, 2019, where they also gave the keynote address during the university’s 78th commencement exercises.

The 5 Browns are managed by IMG Artists, LLC, and are exclusive Steinway Artists.

Onstage Ogden gratefully accepting donations made through a DAF account, or Donor Advised Funds. It’s a great way to accomplish your philanthropic goals and easily manage your charitable giving. Giving through a DAF, which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Onstage Ogden. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.

You can also create a lasting legacy by naming Onstage Ogden the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund. With a percentage, you can create a family legacy of giving by naming your loved ones as your successor to continue recommending grants to charitable organizations. Contact your fund administrator for a beneficiary form.

Please contact Onstage Ogden Development Coordinator, Sarah Bailey, at 801.612.0757 or sarah@onstageogden.org, if you would like to make a donation or if your name has inadvertently been left off or is misspelled.
