About The Cast
ANNAKAITLYN
BUMINGHAM (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making her Grand Theatre debut in In the Heights. She loves the inclusivity and diversity of this story. She is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma, double majoring in Political Science & Journalism. Previous credits include Anita in West Side Story (Hopebox Theatre), Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors (West Valley Theatre), and Specs in Newsies (The Terrace).
MASON BURR (Ensemble) marks their first show at the Grand Theatre and also their first show since being put in a wheelchair. In the Heights is one of Mason’s favorite Broadway shows because it portrays a family when a family is needed the most, which is what theatre means to Mason.
ASHLEY COOMBS (Ensemble) broke her multi-year theatre hiatus when she eturned to the stage in 2022 as a featured dancer in Regalo Theater Company’s Shrek the Musical. She is electrified to continue dancing her heart out In the Heights. As a Latina, she is grateful for opportunities to share the beautiful stories of her community. ¡Sí, se puede!
SOPHIA VALDEZ DAVIS
(Camila Rosario) is enlivened to return to the Grand Theatre where she began her acting career with Hello Dolly way back in 1992. After taking 18 years off to raise her 2 kids, she was able to come back for West Valley Performing Arts production of In the Heights and is happy to be able to reprise her role of Camila Rosario at The Grand this spring. Before her break, Sophia had the pleasure of performing for PTC, Salt Lake Acting Company, the Grand Theatre, The Hale Center Theatre, and Sundance Outdoor Theatre.
AISHA MARIE GARCIA (Nina) is thrilled to be performing in a show and role that mean so much to her. She is a student at Weber State University pursuing a B.A. in Musical Theatre. Previous credits include Maria (West Side Story), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady), Rapunzel (Into the Woods), and Brenda Strong (Catch Me if You Can). Paciencia y Fe!
MONTE GARCIA (Kevin) is thrilled to reprise the role of Kevin...this time playing opposite his actual daughter (Aisha) whom he is so proud of!!! He last appeared at The Grand in 2001’s production of No, No, Nannette. Other favorite roles include
Bernardo in West Side Story, Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance, Sancho in Man of La Mancha, Chauvelin in Scarlet Pimpernel, Beast in Beauty & the Beast, Pseudolus in Forum, El Gallo in Fantasicks, and Radames in Aida.
WHITNEY HARRIS GUTIERREZ
(Daniela) is galvanized to be back on The Grand’s stage playing another spunky role! Audiences may have seen her as Anita in West Side Story, on the Hallmark and Magnolia television networks, or performing at a Utah Jazz game. As a Professor of Performing Arts and Director of the SLCC Dance Company, she also enjoys producing dance concerts and sharing this very stage with dancers of all ages and backgrounds.
ASHER HEAD (Ensemble) is very excited to make his acting debut in the Grande Theatre’s In the Heights production. He loves singing and dancing. When he’s not performing, Asher enjoys doing just about anything that requires creativity; drawing, sewing, building furniture, you name it! You’ll find him singing with the Debra Bonner Unity Gospel Choir throughout the year.
MICHAEL HERNANDEZ
(Graffiti Pete) is so grateful to be returning to The Grand after six long years! Since his last show here, he returned to Utah after living in Orlando where he performed at Seaworld, Disneyworld and was part of the mascot team for Monster Jam. He is currently a resident artist with the Viva La Diva Show in SLC where he serves as dancer, choreographer and impersonator. He is beyond honored to be able to tell this story.
AZRA JACKSON (Ensemble) is a talented young man who is just starting to put his foot into the world of theater and excited to be a part of this production and team. He gained musical experience throughout high school and college and hopes to gain more in the future.
JOSIE MAGUNA (Ensemble) worked several shows at The Grand behind the scenes as an electrician, wardrobe manager, and, most recently, fly rail operator, and is thrilled to be on the front of the stage this time. In the Heights had always been a dream show for Josie, and she is beyond grateful for that dream to have become a reality in the theatre she knows so well.
SOPHIA MORRILL MANCILLA (Vanessa) is a proud Utahn, NYU Tisch grad, and occasional singer/songwriter. Former Mario Kart Wii champion. Thank you for supporting Utah theatre!
SONIA MARITZA INOAROSADO MAUGHAN (Abuela Claudia) #freedomforcuba. Sonia is thrilled to be in her first production at The Grand! Born in Puerto Rico to Dominican & Boricua parents & raised in South Florida, Sonia is deeply honored to play the role of a Cuban immigrant. She grew up with friends who have shared their stories of dreams, hardships & successes in making their way to the states. With great pride and a lot of love in her heart, she will tell their stories through her portrayal of Abuela Claudia. Sonia is overjoyed to be in this show once again (most recently with West Valley Arts) & she is humbled to be able to reprise this beautiful role. She has performed in Miami, Cali, and in local theatres here in Utah. “We are not powerless. We are powerful.”
AMBROCIO MIRELES JR.
(Piragua Guy) is excited to play as the Piragua Guy and alongside such a talented cast. Recently, he’s played in Little Shop of Horrors as the voice of Audrey II and as Scar in Broadway Villains Musical Revue. In 2022, Ambrocio moved to Utah from Indiana with his wife Mary Mireles and their two pups Sherman and Crouton.
NICK MORRIS (Ensemble) was most recently onstage playing Mark in RENT at Park City Egyptian and Ziegfeld Theaters. His most recent appearance on The Grand stage was as Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Show. Nick enjoys performing on various stages across the state and is looking forward to playing Cosmo Brown in Singin’ in the Rain this summer at Terrace Plaza Playhouse. Favorite roles include: The Baker, Into the Woods; Jinx, Forever Plaid (The Grand); Juter, Musical of Musicals… (The Grand); Scarecrow, The Wizard of Oz (The Grand); and Nathan Leopold, Thrill Me.
LIO RIVER (Ensemble) is stoked in being back on the Grand Theatre stage after 5 years. Lio was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil and is been living in the USA for almost 9 years now, seeking his dreams in being a successful actor and eventually working in a sitcom. Lio’s last shows at The Grand: A View From the Bridge and Hairspray. Favorite Theater roles: Bill Slank in Peter and the Starcatcher and Mr. Green in CLUE.
SAVANNAH RUIZ (Carla) is ecstatic to be apart of The Grand’s production of In the Heights! She wants to dedicate this show to her grandparents, the strongest people she knows. She advocates for those struggling with mental health. Please call the National Alliance on Mental Illness at
800-950-6264 if you or someone you know is in crisis. YOU ARE LOVED! Previous roles include: Jo March (Little Women, HB), Maria (West Side Story, HB), Marcy Park (25th… Spelling Bee, HB).
Armando Serrano
(Usnavi) is honored to make his debut at The Grand. Recent credits include: Titanic the Musical, A Christmas Carol ‘22, Treasure Island, The Play That Goes Wrong (Trevor) with Hale Center Theatre; Sister Act (Pablo) with HCTO; In the Heights (Usnavi u/s) with West Valley Arts; A Chorus Line (Paul) and Young Frankenstein (Dr. F. u/s) with The Stage Door Theatre St. George; and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (LeFou) with St. George Musical Theatre. Armando is a recipient of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and came to the United States when he was 2 years old.
AVERY SIMS (Sonny) marks his Grand Theatre stage debut, after performing since he was a wee lad. His most recent roles have been Francis in Forever Plaid and Tom Collins in RENT, both at the Ziegfeld Theatre. He also performs in his band Tides of Autumn as the lead vocalist. But enough about this dingus. Enjoy this show!
ONIAS SNUKA (Benny) reminds us that “it is said when emotion becomes too strong for speech, you sing: and when it becomes too strong for song, you dance.” Onias feels this connection to the production, it’s music, and above all the message of In the Heights that no matter how relatively small or large your dream is, own it. And embrace your roots as you pursue that dream.
KIMBERLY
