Founded in 1991, Tuacahn Center for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that is nestled at the base of Padre Canyon, surrounded by red sandstone cliffs that rise thousands of feet into the beautiful blue southern Utah sky.

MISSION: Tuacahn edifies and inspires the human spirit through professional world-class family entertainment and an unparalleled artistic and academic experience that matches the majesty of our canyon.

Known best for its professional theatre, Tuacahn attracts the most talented actors in America.

Each year, thousands of applicants audition from New York City to Los Angeles. Tuacahn productions include professional Equity Actors, many of whom have performed on Broadway or in other nationally recognized venues.

As a community asset, Tuacahn entertains more than 300,000 patrons each year, with musicals, concerts, shopping, food, and other special events. Tuacahn is Utah’s largest professional non-profit theatre and acts as an economic engine generating an annual impact of more than $100 million. Visitors stay in hotels, dine at restaurants, and shop at retail outlets while enjoying recreational activities in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Tuacahn High School (THS) for the Performing Arts is Utah’s first public charter school, opening in 1999. THS offers an intimate college and career preparatory academic experience with a focus on the arts - music, dance, drama, musical theatre, visual arts, and technical theatre. There is no tuition for Utah residents and out-of-state students pay a modest investment to attend. Combined with the Amphitheatre, there is no other high school experience comparable to Tuacahn High School.

A first generation Mexican-American, Gabriela grew up in a household full of music. She started her professional career in musical theatre at just age 9, when she was cast at the American Girl Theatre in downtown Chicago. Since then, she’s continued to pursue her passion of musical theatre, and also works as a pop songwriter and artist (under the name Gabriela Francesca). Previous roles include Sheila in HAIR, Maria in West Side Story, Nelly in South Pacific, and Ensemble in AIDA. This summer, Gabriela is especially excited to be playing Miriam in The Prince of Egypt.

BRADY DAVIS (M: Ensemble | P: u/s Young Aaron) has been performing on stage since he was 5. His stage credits include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Willy Wonka, Really Rosie, Music Man, Bye Bye Birdie, Camp Rock 2, and most recently as Chip in Beauty and the Beast. His favorite performances were a duo act with his thirteen year old brother on Carnival Cruise Lines, a featured entertainer for the Disney Performing Arts Program and being chosen by the great hip-hop choreographer Hok to model for NIKE. He was one of the youngest students selected to study at the famed Berklee School of Music and Guitar Foundation of America annual Guitar Summit. Rachel was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when she was 2. She is 9 years old and just finished the 3rd grade. When not in dance class, she enjoys reading, traveling with her family and spending time with her 3 cats.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CAST NICOLE POWELL* (C: Ensemble | M: Mrs. Phelps | P: Tuya) Nicole is happy to return to the Tuacahn stage under the wonderful leadership of Scott Anderson. She previously performed in the 2013 season as Muzzy Van Hossmere in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Nicole is originally from Long Island, NY and received her BFA from Howard University where she majored in Acting. She was most recently seen in the Off- Broadway musical comedy Curvy Widow.

LYDIA RICKS (M: Matilda) is an 11-year old and resides here in Washington County.

She is thrilled and extremely grateful to be performing with Tuacahn for the 1st time! Lydia began playing the piano at age 7 and has been singing ever since she could talk. She has a passion for music, both composition and performing.

She recently won the Utah State Reflections contest in music composition. Previously she performed as Emily in Saturday’s Warrior, Cindy Lou Who in the Grinch, and an Oompa Loompa in Willy Wonka the Musical. Lydia was the runner- up in the youth category of the 2017 Dixie’s Got Talent competition where she performed as a pianist/vocalist.

She is excited to share the powerful story of Matilda and as Matilda would say, “Even if you’re little you can do a lot!” A special thanks to her family, friends, cast, crew, and coaches for all their love and support.

MAXWELL RIMINGTON (M: Nigel) Maxwell is a seventh grader from Utah County, and he’s so pleased to perform the role of Nigel on the amazing Tuacahn stage! He most recently performed on

the professional stage as Les in Newsies, directed by Karen Azenberg, with Salt Lake City’s Pioneer Theatre Company. He performed the title role in Oliver! for PTC’s 2016 season. Other credits include Jojo (Seussical)—directed by Chase Ramsey, a director for the Walt Disney company— Michael Banks (Mary Poppins), and Michael Darling (Peter Pan.) Maxwell trained in musical theater and dance at Utah COPA with Mindy Robbins and Nathan Balser. He’s training in acting for film with SR Studios and in ballroom dance with International Champions Cheyenne Murillo and Sasha Altukhov. Maxwell is a recording artist with two released singles and is part of the Winn & Max duo, which performs the national anthem and inspirational music for special events. Mindy is an owner and Artistic Director of Utah COPA (utahcopa.com), an after school performing arts program in American Fork and Draper. She is thrilled to announce the opening of Utah COPA at Tuacahn this summer! She graduated from BYU with a BFA in Music Dance Theatre and

has taught voice in the BYU School of Music.

She is a member of A.E.A. Mindy is married to Conor Robbins and they have four children. Mindy is the daughter of Doug and Marian Smoot of Provo, Utah. She would like to dedicate this show to her mother who is watching from the other side.

MYLEE ROBBINS (M: Ensemble) is thrilled to be joining the Tuacahn cast of Matilda. She is excited to be sharing the stage with some of her friends and her Mom, Mindy. Mylee has a passion for theatre and has been watching musicals on the Tuacahn stage since she was a baby. She previously played the role of Annie in Annie for COPA Youth Theatre.

She can be seen in the feature film, 12 Dogs of Christmas II, directed by Kieth Merrill and produced by Ken Kragen. Mylee trains in music, dance and theatre at Utah COPA in American Fork. She would like to dedicate this show to her angel Grandma Smoot, who supported her love of theatre and now watches from a better seat.

He spent his formative years on philanthropic endeavors through the arts. A highlight from those experiences was serving as director and choreographer for productions presented by the Rotary Club of Belize (2005-2009). In addition to his volunteerism, he began formal dance training with the Belize National Dance Company and The Dramatic Forces School of Dance. His passion for dance, stirred by the tutelage of the two institutions, led him to a successful pursuit of earning a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. After college, his professional dance experience began with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre (2010-2014). Since then, he has performed with the Bruce Wood Dance Project, Contemporary Ballet Dallas, and Collin Country Ballet Theatre. Recently, Jamie, served as the Executive/ Artistic Director for the International Conservatory of Performing Arts in North Texas. Currently, he is the Founder and CEO of LyveARTS International LLC- an international organization that is dedicated to cultivating and sustaining a global arts community.

Avree attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas as a scholarship student, representing the program in South Korea, Canada, Europe and though out the United States. Shortly after, Avree became a member of the Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theatre under the direction of Bernard H. Gaddis, touring and performing works by Alvin Ailey, Ulysses Dove, Elisa Monte, Rennie Harris, Milton Myers, Zane Booker, Hope Boykin and many others.

Tyrone has performed works by many notable choreographers, including Paul Vasterling, Alvin Ailey, Troy Powell, George Faison, Ben Stevenson, Christopher L. Huggins, Robert Battle, and Judith Jamison. He has also performed with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Alvin Ailey’s Memoria and The Wiz with Dallas Theater Center. Tyrone is the former Ballet Master of The Metropolitan Ballet Theatre & Academy. He is currently pursuing a career in music and released his first music video titled UP. EZEKIEL WEIR (M: Ensemble | P: Young Aaron) who plays the role of Eric, is extremely proud to be joining the Tuachan cast of Matilda. Ezekiel lives in St.George with his family and attends Crimson View Elementary. He is in the fifth grade, and his favorite subjects are Math and Science. This is Ezekiels first Tuachan performance. He has appeared in St. George Musical Theater’s version of “ A Christmas Story” and “Singing in the Rain”. Ezekiel also enjoys playing soccer , clogging and plays the piano. WHO’S WHO BEHIND THE SCENES SCOTT S. ANDERSON (Tuacahn Artistic Director/Director, Prince of Egypt) joined Tuacahn in 2004 and enjoys creatively shaping and leading this dynamic arts institution. He has worked for more than thirty-four years in theatre, film, radio and television. He has been involved in over 100 productions as an actor, director or producer but considers his sixteen years at Tuacahn to be one of his most satisfying challenges.

Scott’s more recent directing credits include: Shrek the Musical, Disney’s When You Wish, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Tarzan, Annie, Les Misérables and Peter Pan. He also wrote and directed the acclaimed motion picture The Best Two Years and more recently The Jerk Theory. He continues to work as a writer and director and is always working on new film projects. Scott attended Dixie State College and the University of Utah, where he studied Theater and Film.

He is the proud father of three children and ten grandchildren. Scott hopes to shepherd more outstanding entertainment to this unique venue in the years to come.

JANI WALSH-WEBER (Director/ Choreographer, Cinderella) Celebrating her 40th year in the entertainment business, Jani is thrilled to be making her Tuacahn debut as Director/Choreographer. Throughout the course of her career she has worn many hats.

As a performer she entertained national and international audiences in some of Broadway’s greatest works including Disney’s Beauty & the Beast, Bob Fosse’s Dancin’, A Chorus Line, Sweet Charity, 42nd Street, West Side Story, CATS and many more. As a Resident Director, she has worked with Disney’s Tarzan, The Lion King and Beauty & The Beast (giving notes in fluent German, no less) in Germany and Austria. While living in Europe she also taught the next musical theatre generation giving workshops and classes in dance and audition techniques specializing in the style of Bob Fosse. Her past fifteen years have been centered back in the US where she has been creating and maintaining musical productions, special events and galas for both Walt Disney World and other private organizations and theaters. As a mother to two beautiful daughters, she is particularly proud to be

SEAN CHEESMAN (Choreographer, Prince of Egypt) is an internationally renowned choreographer who has worked with some of the world’s top entertainers, including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Carmen Electra, Tina Turner, Queen Latifah, and Britney Spears. Sean was choreographer and head judge on the reality show/dance competition Dirty Dancing: Time of Your Life and one of the only choreographers to have judged and choreographed for So You Think You Can Dance in the USA, Canada and UK. He has been a choreographer and mentor for the T4 Show Musicool. Sean was born in Trinidad and grew up in Calgary, Canada. From his Canadian beginnings as a figure skater and dancer, Sean went on to study at the Alvin Ailey Dance Center in New York. In the years that followed, he toured with Janet Jackson as a choreographer and dancer. Sean

appeared in the Warner Brothers film The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston (he also choreographed the dance sequences).

Other television works include (as choreographer) the NBC television series Guys Next Door, Soul Train Awards and Janet Jackson’s performance on Saturday Night Live.

ADDY CHAN (Associate Choreographer, Prince of Egypt) is a choreographer, producer and casting director from Vancouver, Canada.

Some professional highlights include the Disney movie musical franchise Descendants (Assistant to Kenny Ortega & Tony Testa), Nickelodeon’s TV show Make it Pop (Series Choreographer/Creative Director), feature film Full Out and music videos for The Weekend and Kelly Clarkson (Choreographer).

Dancer credits include feature films Step Up: All In, Descendants, and Suicide Squad. She is currently a producer for the KINJAZ and is the founder of Addy Chan Casting. CHARLIE REUTER (Music Director, Cinderella) Conducted the National Tour of Cinderella.

He served as assistant conductor for the Tony Award winning musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (The Old Globe), Dreamgirls (The Muny), and worked with Trevor Nunn to adapt an original score for Pericles (2016 Drama Desk nominated for Outstanding Music in a Play). As a pianist,

He holds an MFA in Musical Theatre from San Diego State University and studied orchestral conducting at Juilliard. Raised on a farm in Iowa, attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and has been on the road ever since. Director Prince of Egypt) in his 9th season for Tuacahn’s Broadway in the Canyon productions. Previously he was the Assistant Director for Peter Pan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. In 2013, Ryan made his Tuacahn and regional directorial debut with Tuacahn’s premiere of Disney’s Mulan.

Besides producing, he served as the

Associate Director for Disney’s The Little Mermaid (2014) and the regional premiere of Starlight Express. Assistant Director credits include Aladdin, The Little Mermaid (2011), and Tarzan. He has also performed at Tuacahn in several productions, including the original cast of the musical UTAH! As a performer Ryan has worked in New York, Los Angeles, on national tours, and on cruise ships. He has had the opportunity to work with some of Broadway’s biggest names such as Ann Reinking and the late Gregory Hines.

Directing credits include: Into the Woods, Oliver!, Seussical the Musical, The Spitfire Grill, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Disney’s High School Musical. BRAD SHELTON (Set Design, Matilda/Prince of Egypt) Brad is excited for his 10 th season of designing shows on this world renowned and unforgettable stage! His first set design was Big River in 2008. Since then he has designed Aida, Crazy for You, Hairspray, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Joseph…Dreamcoat, Sister Act, Peter Pan, Tarzan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Newsies, and Mamma Mia! Brad is a graduate of the nationally-ranked College of the Arts at Cal State Fullerton. He also worked for a very popular mouse while living in Southern California, where he worked for the Entertainment Technical Services Department, building and maintaining lots of Shows and Attractions. In 2016 he accepted the Full-Time position as the Tuacahn Resident Designer.

He is grateful for Tuacahn letting him live his dream. Brad is a proud father of two beautiful kids and husband to one beautiful wife.

WES HAMBLIN (Technical Director) joined Tuacahn in 2006 and brings 18 years of scenery building experience with him, most notably 8 years on the TV series Touched by an Angel.

After earning a BFA from USU his career has taken him from Alaska to Florida and New York to California. He is excited to settle in one place fora while and spend time with his family.

TRUXTON MOULTON (Assistant Technical Director) is in his 7th season at Tuacahn and is eagerly engaged to be a part of the magic that only Tuacahn can bring. Theater has been a part of his life for 17 years now and has dragged him all over Utah. He started off working at Pioneer Theater Company and the LDS Conference Center. After serving a tour in Iraq he studied technical theater at Snow College and Utah State University.

Now with the love and support of his beautiful wife Megan and his 4 crazy kids, he has found his dream job here at Tuacahn.

CRAIG ENGEL (Production Manager) (Production Manager) is in his second year as the Production Manager at Tuacahn.

Managing last year’s productions of Shrek, Newsies, Mama Mia, and Fairy Tale Christmas at Tuacahn. Previously Craig worked at Dixie State University as their Technical Director, and mixed Audio for Tuacahn productions of Tarzan, Grease, The little Mermaid, Mulan, and Putnam County Spelling Bee. JANET SWENSON (Costume Design, Cinderella) During her 44 years on faculty at Brigham Young University, Janet served as Department Associate Chair, Chair of Design & Technology and resident Costume Designer. While teaching, she designed costumes and makeup for over 250 productions. Professionally, Janet spent 15 years designing for Robert Redford’s Sundance Theatre, 19 seasons at the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival and 8 summers at Tuacahn, including this year’s Cinderella and 2016 summer’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame which was named the Utah Outstanding Costume Design by Broadway World. Other professional credits include work at the PCPA, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, and Skylight Opera Theatre. Professor Swenson is the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Karl G. Maeser Award for Creativity. Her most challenging project was designing and supervising construction of over 2,500 costumes for Light of the World, which played to sold-out houses in

the 21,000 seat SLC Conference Center throughout the 2002 Olympics.

MARIA LENN (Costume Design, Matilda | Costume Shop Manager) is excited to join Tuacahn full time. She previously worked as the Costume Designer for Newsies as well as Draper for Newsies, Peter Pan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, When You Wish and Sister Act. She holds a MFA in Costume Design and Technology from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Ohio after earning her BFA in the same field at the University of Evansville in Southern Indiana. Throughout her adventures, she has designed costumes for many exciting shows including Cendrillion, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Suessical the Musical, Romeo and Juliet, and Ah, Wilderness. Maria has been captured by the beauty of Tuacahn and is ecstatic to be a part of the splendor.

A Southern Utah University graduate and Southern Utah native, she loves to be able to live and work in the area she loves so much. She has guided her animal team through many productions, including Aladdin, Cinderella, My Fair Lady, Big River, Les Misérables, Footloose, Grease and many more. SMITH (CEO/Executive Producer) has been with Tuacahn for more than sixteen years, serving in various capacities including marketing associate, company manager, production manager, development associate, producer, and Chief Executive Officer. He received his undergraduate from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in Sociology and minor in Business Management and received a Master of Education degree from Southern Utah University. Kevin has produced or coproduced more than 40 musicals at Tuacahn and oversees all facets of Tuacahn operations and programs.

Kevin was instrumental in the creation of Utah’s first public charter high school, the Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts, which opened its doors in 1999. Kevin lives in Ivins with his wonderful wife, Rebecca, and their children.

KEVIN E. WARNICK (Chief Financial Officer/ Producer) has been associated with Tuacahn since the inaugural 1995 season. Initially hired as a sound designer and engineer, Kevin began producing at Tuacahn in 1999– managing the creation and implementation of the various technical aspects of the theatre’s theatrical productions. Through the years, Kevin has also served as Tuacahn’s Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director.

More recently, he assumed his current role as Chief Financial Officer. Kevin received his degree from Brigham Young University and enjoys applying his varied educational and professional background in helping Tuacahn fulfill its mission here among the red rocks of Southern Utah. Originally hailing from Ft. Worth, Texas, Kevin now resides in Ivins with his wife, Kareen, and their three children.

DENNIS KELLY (Book, Matilda) Work for theatre includes Debris, Osama the Hero, After the End, Love and Money, Taking Care of Baby, DNA, Orphans, The Gods Weep, and The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas. He has written the book for the new musical of Pinocchio which opens at the National Theatre at the end of 2017, and in 2018 his new play Girls and Boys opens at the Royal Court. His plays have been performed worldwide and to date have been translated into nearly forty languages. For television he co-wrote and co-created Pulling and wrote and created Utopia, and for film he wrote the screenplay for Black Sea, directed by Kevin MacDonald. He also wrote the book for the Olivier and Tony winning Matilda the Musical.

In 2010 DNA became a set text on the GCSE English Literature syllabus.

TIM MINCHIN (Music & Lyrics, Matilda) Tim is a musician, actor, comedian, writer and director. He’s toured extensively in the US, UK and Australia, performing solo, with bands, and with symphony orchestras.

He’s released five DVDs, the most recent recorded with the Heritage Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. Screen acting credits include Robin Hood Origins (2018), Secret River (2015), and Californication (Season 6 - 2013). Stage acting credits include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Sydney Theatre Company) and Jesus Christ Superstar (UK/Australia tours). Tim has written extensively for theatre, and is the composer-lyricist of Matilda the Musical (with Dennis Kelly) and Groundhog Day the Musical (with Danny Rubin).

ROALD DAHL (1916-1990) was the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG and many more of the world’s best-loved children’s stories. He remains one of the world’s greatest storytellers and is celebrated annually by the world’s biggest author-based event, Roald Dahl Day – which is recognized across the globe on 13th September. His first children’s story, James and the Giant Peach, published in 1961 and was a huge hit. Every subsequent book became a best-seller. Today, his stories are available in 59 languages and, by a conservative estimate, he has sold more than 250 million books. PHILIP LAZEBNIK (Book, Prince of Egypt) has written numerous TV shows and feature films in Los Angeles and Europe but is best known for his screenplays for Disney and DreamWorks, including Disney’s Pocahontas and Mulan, and DreamWorks’ The Prince of Egypt and the legend of El Dorado. Over the last few years Philip has lived in Denmark, where he has written scripts for feature films and television seen across Europe and the United States.

DOMINICK AMENDUM (Vocal, Incidental & Dance Arrangements/Music Consultant) served for nearly a decade as associate music supervisor of the international mega-hit musical Wicked, also having conducted and music directed Wicked on Broadway, in Los Angeles, and in cities across the U.S. on the First National Tour.

Additionally, Dominick was the arranger and music supervisor for the Broadway musical First Date.
